File Handle Exhaustion Issue with com.apple.Virtualization.VirtualMachine in VZ Environment
We are currently utilizing VZ with Lima (details: Lima VM and VZ) for our development environment. However, we're encountering a critical issue with the com.apple.Virtualization.VirtualMachine process leading to open file handle exhaustion. When mounting our programming languages dependency cache folder (Which can have a lot of files) into the VZ VM, we encounter an operating system error related to open file limits: /gomodcache/github.com/go-git/go-git/v5@v5.4.2/plumbing/object/patch.go:14:2: open /gomodcache/github.com/go-git/go-git/v5@v5.4.2/plumbing/format/diff/unified_encoder.go: too many open files in system Further investigation revealed an abnormally high number of open files associated with the com.apple.Virtualization.VirtualMachine process. A significant portion of these files are not actively used but remain open. Example Case: A file (/Users/rcurrah/test.txt) created on the Mac host and listed (ls) in the VM remains open even 20 minutes later, as evidenced by the following command output: ❯ lsof | grep 11208 | grep test.txt COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME com.apple 11208 rcurrah 4823r REG 1,13 0 46200882 /Users/rcurrah/test.txt Steps to Reproduce the Issue: To reproduce the file handle exhaustion follow the below steps. This process will create a large number of files on the Mac host, listing them on the VZ VM, and then verifying their open status using lsof. Setup the VZ Environment with Sharing: Create a VZ VM with your home directory shared to the VM. Create a Test Directory on the Mac Host: Create a new directory on your Mac host, e.g., mkdir ~/test-file-exhaustion. Generate a Large Number of Files: Navigate to the created directory: cd ~/test-file-exhaustion. Use a loop to create a large number of files, e.g., for i in {1..10000}; do touch "file_${i}.txt"; done. This will create 10,000 files named file_1.txt, file_2.txt, etc. List Files in the VM: Access the VZ VM shell. Navigate to the mounted directory and list the files using the ls command, e.g., ls /path/to/mounted/test-file-exhaustion. Check Open Files on Mac Host: Exit the VM and return to your Mac host terminal. Use the lsof command to check for open files related to the com.apple.Virtualization.VirtualMachine process: lsof | grep "$(pgrep com.apple.Virtualization.VirtualMachine)" | grep 'test-file-exhaustion' | wc -l. Document the Output: Record the output of the lsof command. Note the number of open files. Verify File Closure (or Lack Thereof): After a certain period, e.g., 20 minutes, repeat the lsof command to see if the files are still open, indicating that they haven’t been closed properly by the process. Given these observations, we have a couple of questions: Is this behavior of com.apple.Virtualization.VirtualMachine retaining open file handles a known issue or a bug? Should VZ be managing the closure of these file handles more efficiently, especially when they are no longer in use? This issue is impacting our development workflow significantly. Any guidance or insights on resolving this would be highly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best regards, Ryan

Core Spotlight Semantic Search - still non-functional for 1+ year after WWDC24?
After more than a year since the announcement, I'm still unable to get this feature working properly and wondering if there are known issues or missing implementation details. Current Setup: Device: iPhone 16 Pro Max iOS: 26 beta 3 Development: Tested on both Xcode 16 and Xcode 26 Implementation: Following the official documentation examples The Problem: Semantic search simply doesn't work. Lexical search functions normally, but enabling semantic search produces identical results to having it disabled. It's as if the feature isn't actually processing. Error Output (Xcode 26): [QPNLU][qid=5] Error Domain=com.apple.SpotlightEmbedding.EmbeddingModelError Code=-8007 "Text embedding generation timeout (timeout=100ms)" [CSUserQuery][qid=5] got a nil / empty embedding data dictionary [CSUserQuery][qid=5] semanticQuery failed to generate, using "(false)" In Xcode 16, there are no error messages at all - the semantic search just silently fails. Missing Resources: The sample application mentioned during the WWDC24 presentation doesn't appear to have been released, which makes it difficult to verify if my implementation is correct. Would really appreciate any guidance or clarification on the current status of this feature. Has anyone in the community successfully implemented this?

Using wildcard for applinks in iOS stopped working
Hi everyone, I've been working on an application that provides different subdomains for different customers, so we need to support app linking with all of them. However, using wildcard notation like applinks:*.domain.com doesn't work, while hardcoding applinks:subdomain.domain.com works fine. The association file is being served from both the main domain and subdomains. It used to work fine about a month ago, and I can't find any recent breaking changes on Apple's side . Any ideas why this could happen. ?

Error downloading the Predictive Code Completion Model
Hi, I'm setting up Xcode and after updating MacOS to 15.2 and Xcode to 16.2, I cannot download the Predictive Code Completion Model. I've done some research and I haven't found any solution, specially since most people suggest that it randomly fixed itself, which for me hasn't been the case. I've tried restarting my Mac, uninstalling and reinstalling Xcode multiple times, I've also reinstalled MacOS from Recovery and haven't found any success (I'm also not running Xcode inside a VM, as I've seen this can cause some problems in this case). This is the error that I receive when I attempt to download the model: And here are the details: The operation couldn’t be completed. Are read-only filesystems currently supported by FSKit?
I'm writing a read-only filesystem extension. I see that the documentation for loadResource(resource:options:replyHandler:) claims that the --rdonly option is supported, which suggests that this should be possible. However, I have never seen this option provided to my filesystem extension, even if I return usableButLimited as a probe result (where it doesn't mount at all - FB19241327) or pass the -r or -o rdonly options to the mount(8) command. Instead I see those options on the volume's activate call. But other than saving that "readonly" state (which, in my case, is always the case) and then throwing on all write-related calls I'm not sure how to actually mark the filesystem as "read-only." Without such an indicator, the user is still offered the option to do things like trash items in Finder (although of course those operations do not succeed since I throw an EROFS error in the relevant calls). It also seems like the FSKit extensions that come with the system handle read-only strangely as well. For example, for a FAT32 filesystem, if I mount it like mount -r -F -t msdos /dev/disk15s1 /tmp/mnt Then it acts... weirdly. For example, Finder doesn't know that the volume is read-only, and lets me do some operations like making new folders, although they never actually get written to disk. Writing may or may not lead to errors and/or the change just disappearing immediately (or later), which is pretty much what I'm seeing in my own filesystem extension. If I remove the -F option (thus using the kernel extension version of msdos), this doesn't happen. Are read-only filesystems currently supported by FSKit? The fact that extensions like Apple's own msdos also seem to act weirdly makes me think this is just a current FSKit limitation, although maybe I'm missing something. It's not necessarily a hard blocker given that I can prevent writes from happening in my FSKit module code (or, in my case, just not implement such features at all), but it does make for a strange experience. (I reported this as FB21068845, although I'm mostly asking here because I'm not 100% sure this is not just me missing something.)

MapKit JS 401 Not Authorized (details empty) even with multiple token variants
Hi everyone, I’m troubleshooting a persistent MapKit JS auth issue and would appreciate any advice. I have: Active Apple Developer account/team Maps configuration created and linked Active Maps-enabled signing key Domain-restricted token setup I tested multiple JWT variants: with origin without origin (basic example style) with and without exp exact domain and wildcard domain variants I also tested using a minimal/basic MapKit JS integration and still got the same result. Bootstrap request: `curl -s --compressed -D - \ 'https://cdn.apple-mapkit.com/ma/bootstrap?apiVersion=2&mkjsVersion=5.81.60&poi=1' \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer <JWT>' \ -H 'Origin: https://<my-domain>' \ -H 'Referer: https://<my-domain>/...' Result is always:` HTTP 401 {"error":{"message":"Not Authorized","details":[]}} Important detail: mapkit.core.js loads successfully (HTTP 200) failure happens only on bootstrap auth Has anyone seen this exact behavior with empty details and found what was wrong? Any checklist for hidden misconfiguration points (key linkage, token generation method, domain restriction behavior, propagation timing) would help.

Seeking Advice on App Store Optimization for a New App With Low Initial Traction
I launched my app on the App Store and Google Play about two months ago and despite improving the icon and screenshots I have only reached around 40 downloads which makes me believe ASO is my main challenge. I started using ASO tools like TryAstro and AppTweak but the keyword metrics such as volume 39 and difficulty 0 are confusing so I would appreciate guidance on interpreting this data and on effective ASO strategies for a new app with minimal downloads or ratings.

Wallet no longer appear near iBeacon
Hello, We are testing Wallet passes with iBeacons in iOS 26 Beta. In earlier iOS releases, when a device was in proximity to a registered beacon, the corresponding pass would surface automatically. In iOS 26 Beta, this behavior no longer occurs, even if the pass is already present in Wallet. I have not found documentation of this change in the iOS 26 release notes. Could you please confirm whether this is expected in iOS 26, or if it may be a Beta-specific issue? Any pointers to updated documentation would be appreciated. Thank you.

DeviceActivityMonitor: increase memory limit from 6MB
Dear Screen Time Team! The current 6 MB memory limit for the DeviceActivityMonitor extension no longer reflects the reality of modern iOS devices or the complexity of apps built on top of the Screen Time framework. When Screen Time APIs were introduced with iOS 15, hardware constraints were very different. Since then, iPhone performance and available RAM have increased significantly…but the extension memory limit has remained unchanged. My name is Frederik Riedel, and I’m the developer of the screen time app “one sec.” Our app relies heavily on FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, and DeviceActivity to provide real-time interventions that help users reduce social media usage. In practice, the 6 MB limit has become a critical bottleneck: The DeviceActivityMonitor extension frequently crashes due to memory pressure, often unpredictably. Even highly optimized implementations struggle to stay within this constraint when using Swift and multiple ManagedSettings stores. The limit makes it disproportionately difficult to build stable, maintainable, and scalable architectures on top of these frameworks. This is not just an edge case…it directly impacts reliability in production apps that depend on Screen Time APIs for core functionality. Modern system integrations like Screen Time are incredibly powerful, but they also require a reasonable amount of memory headroom to function reliably. The current limit forces developers into fragile workarounds and undermines the robustness of apps that aim to improve users’ digital wellbeing. We would greatly appreciate if you could revisit and update this restriction to better align with today’s device capabilities and developer needs. Thank you for your continued work on Screen Time and for supporting developers building meaningful experiences on top of it. Feedback: FB22279215 Best regards, Frederik Riedel (one sec app)

SwiftUI View Not Initialized on Background Relaunch (CoreBluetooth / Cold Start?)
I have a question regarding cold start and pre-warming behavior on iOS. I’m developing a SwiftUI app that continuously receives data from a BLE device in the background. We’ve observed that after the BLE stream stops, the OS often terminates our app. Later, when the sensor comes back into range, iOS appears to relaunch (or reinitialize) the app. In our app, we use a WindowGroup like this: WindowGroup { AppView(store: store) } We’ve placed our BLE reconnection logic inside a .task modifier in AppView. What’s confusing is this: Most of the time, when the app is relaunched, AppView is created and the .task runs as expected. However, in about 1 out of 10 cases, AppView is not created at all, so the .task does not execute. I’m trying to understand: Under what conditions does iOS relaunch an app without fully initializing the SwiftUI view hierarchy? Is this related to pre-warming or background relaunch mechanisms (e.g., CoreBluetooth state restoration)? What determines whether the WindowGroup and root view are actually instantiated? Any insight into the system’s relaunch behavior or lifecycle in this scenario would be greatly appreciated.

Touch events responding is delayed when 3D touch is ON
Update:I create a plain app and a keyboard extension to test the touch events. The plain app can respond the touch immediately but the keyboard extension has about 1s lag.--------------------------------------------------------Hi, Recently I test my app on the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6sp with 3D touch ON. I notice 3 strange things:When my finger touches on the left edge of the screen, the app responds the touch events after about 1s delay. When I touch on the left edge of the screen and push with force, the 3D touch task switcher shows. But if I tap the left edge of the screen, the app can respond the touch events immediately.I test many other 3rd apps and system apps (notes, contacts) this phenomenon exists too with 3D touch ON. When I turn 3D touch OFF, the app responds the touch events immediately as usual. On the other hand, the system keyboard responds the touch events immediately whether the 3D touch is ON or OFF.I guess it’s because the touch events responding conflicts with the 3D touch task switcher. I have tried many 3D touch APIs but have no effects.Does anyone have an idea? Thanks!

CarPlay CPListImageRowItem causes Inverted Scrolling and Side Button malfunction
In my CarPlaySceneDelegate.swift, I have two tabs: The first tab uses a CPListImageRowItem with a CPListImageRowItemRowElement. The scroll direction is inverted, and the side button does not function correctly. The second tab uses multiple CPListItem objects. There are no issues: scrolling works in the correct direction, and the side button behaves as expected. Steps To Reproduce Launch the app. Connect to CarPlay. In the first tab, scroll up and down, then use the side button to navigate. In the second tab, scroll up and down, then use the side button to navigate. As observed, the scrolling behavior is different between the two tabs. Code Example: import CarPlay import UIKit class CarPlaySceneDelegate: UIResponder, CPTemplateApplicationSceneDelegate { var interfaceController: CPInterfaceController? func templateApplicationScene( _ templateApplicationScene: CPTemplateApplicationScene, didConnect interfaceController: CPInterfaceController ) { self.interfaceController = interfaceController downloadImageAndSetupTemplates() } func templateApplicationScene( _ templateApplicationScene: CPTemplateApplicationScene, didDisconnectInterfaceController interfaceController: CPInterfaceController ) { self.interfaceController = nil } private func downloadImageAndSetupTemplates() { let urlString = "https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRcYUjd1FYkF04-8Vb7PKI1mGoF2quLPHKjvnR7V4ReZR8UjW-0NJ_kC7q13eISZGoTCLHaDPVbOthhH9QNq-YA0uuSUjfAoB3PPs1aXQ&s=10" guard let url = URL(string: urlString) else { setupTemplates(with: UIImage(systemName: "photo")!) return } URLSession.shared.dataTask(with: url) { [weak self] data, _, _ in let image: UIImage if let data = data, let downloaded = UIImage(data: data) { image = downloaded } else { image = UIImage(systemName: "photo")! } DispatchQueue.main.async { self?.setupTemplates(with: image) } }.resume() } private func setupTemplates(with image: UIImage) { // Tab 1 : un seul CPListImageRowItem avec 12 CPListImageRowItemRowElement let elements: [CPListImageRowItemRowElement] = (1...12).map { index in CPListImageRowItemRowElement(image: image, title: "test \(index)", subtitle: nil) } let rowItem = CPListImageRowItem(text: "Images", elements: elements, allowsMultipleLines: true) rowItem.listImageRowHandler = { item, elementIndex, completion in print("tapped element \(elementIndex)") completion() } let tab1Section = CPListSection(items: [rowItem]) let tab1Template = CPListTemplate(title: "CPListImageRowItemRowElement", sections: [tab1Section]) // Tab 2 : 12 CPListItem simples let tab2Items: [CPListItem] = (1...12).map { index in let item = CPListItem(text: "Item \(index)", detailText: "Detail \(index)") item.handler = { _, completion in print("handler Tab 2") completion() } return item } let tab2Section = CPListSection(items: tab2Items) let tab2Template = CPListTemplate(title: "CPListItem", sections: [tab2Section]) // CPTabBarTemplate avec les deux tabs let tabBar = CPTabBarTemplate(templates: [tab1Template, tab2Template]) interfaceController?.setRootTemplate(tabBar, animated: true) } } Here is a quick video:

GPTK 3 and D3DMetal issue with Modern Pipeline Creation
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (v1.0.48.0, Steam) crashes during rendering initialization when running through CrossOver 26 with D3DMetal 3.0 on an Apple M2 Max Mac Studio running macOS Sequoia. The game successfully initializes Streamline, NVAPI, DLSS (Result::eOk), DLSSG (Result::eOk), Reflex, and XeSS — all subsystems report success. The crash occurs immediately after, during rendering pipeline creation, before the game reaches NXStorage initialization or window creation. Minidump analysis confirms the crash is an access violation (0xc0000005) at DS2.exe+0x67233d, writing to address 0x0. RAX=0x0 (null pointer being dereferenced), R12=0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF (error/invalid handle return). The game appears to call a D3D12 API — likely CheckFeatureSupport or a pipeline state creation function — that D3DMetal acknowledges as supported but returns null or invalid data for. The game trusts the response and dereferences the null pointer. Two other Nixxes titles using the same engine and D3DMetal setup run without issue: Spider-Man 2 (~50 FPS) and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered (~34 FPS). DS2 uses newer technology versions (DLSS 4, FSR 4, XeSS 2) and a newer DirectX 12 Agility SDK, which likely queries D3D12 features that D3DMetal does not yet fully implement. The crash also reproduces when D3DMetal reports as AMD vendor (1002) instead of NVIDIA (10de), crashing at the same executable offset, confirming it is a D3D12 feature reporting gap in D3DMetal rather than a vendor-specific issue. How To Reproduce Install Crossover 26+ on MacOS 26.4 Install Steam and download Death Stranding 2 Run Death Stranding 2 and check logs after crash in Documents\DEATH STRANDING 2 ON THE BEACH Feedback Requests FB22285513 — Game Porting Toolkit 3 issue with Modern Pipeline Creation

Invalid parameter not satisfying: parentEnvironment != nil
Since the beta releases of iPadOS 26 we have been having some crashes about Invalid parameter not satisfying: parentEnvironment != nil We got to contact a couple of users and we found out that the crash appears when entering a screen in a UINavigationController with the iPad device connected to a Magic Keyboard. If the device is not connected to the keyboard then nothing happens and everything works ok. From our end we haven't managed to reproduce the crash so I am pasting part of the stacktrace if it can be of any help. 3 UIKitCore 0x19dfd2e14 -[_UIFocusContainerGuideFallbackItemsContainer iPadOS 26 - Status bar overlaps with navigation bar
Hello, I'm experiencing a navigation bar positioning issue with my UIKit iPad app on iPadOS 26 (23A340) using Xcode 26 (17A321). The navigation bar positions under the status bar initially, and after orientation changes to landscape, it positions incorrectly below its expected location. This occurs on both real device (iPad mini A17 Pro) and simulator. My app uses UIKit + Storyboard with a Root Navigation Controller. A stack overflow post has reproduce the bug event if it's not in the same configuration: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/79752945/xcode-26-beta-6-ipados-26-statusbar-overlaps-with-navigationbar-after-presen I have checked all safe areas and tried changing some constraints, but nothing works. Have you encountered this bug before, or do you need additional information to investigate this issue?

URL Filter Network Extension
Hello team, I am trying to find out a way to block urls in the chrome browser if it is found in local blocked list cache. I found URL Filter Network very much suitable for my requirement. But I see at multiple places that this solution is only for Enterprise level or MDM or supervised device. So can I run this for normal user ? as my targeting audience would be bank users. One more thing how can I test this in development environment if we need supervised devices and do we need special entitlement ? When trying to run sample project in the simulator then getting below error

3 UIKitCore 0x19dfd2e14 -[_UIFocusContainerGuideFallbackItemsContainer SceneKit is now deprecated - when it will be removed?
Now that SceneKit has been marked as soft deprecated, is there a planned date or timeframe when it will be completely removed from iOS? I’m concerned about how long my existing SceneKit-based game will continue to work, especially as an indie developer without the resources for a quick rewrite to RealityKit.

iPadOS 26 - Status bar overlaps with navigation bar
