Ventura Hack for FireWire Core Audio Support on Supported MacBook Pro and others...
Hi all,  Apple dropping on-going development for FireWire devices that were supported with the Core Audio driver standard is a catastrophe for a lot of struggling musicians who need to both keep up to date on security updates that come with new OS releases, and continue to utilise their hard earned investments in very expensive and still pristine audio devices that have been reduced to e-waste by Apple's seemingly tone-deaf ignorance in the cries for on-going support.  I have one of said audio devices, and I'd like to keep using it while keeping my 2019 Intel Mac Book Pro up to date with the latest security updates and OS features.  Probably not the first time you gurus have had someone make the logical leap leading to a request for something like this, but I was wondering if it might be somehow possible of shoe-horning the code used in previous versions of Mac OS that allowed the Mac to speak with the audio features of such devices to run inside the Ventura version of the OS.  Would it possible? Would it involve a lot of work? I don't think I'd be the only person willing to pay for a third party application or utility that restored this functionality. There has to be 100's of thousands of people who would be happy to spare some cash to stop their multi-thousand dollar investment in gear to be so thoughtlessly resigned to the scrap heap.  Any comments or layman-friendly explanations as to why this couldn’t happen would be gratefully received!  Thanks,  em

Driverkit driver hangs on macOS
Hello, I have crated a DriverKit driver for macOS and iPad M-series if I ever get the mac driver working. I have the correct entittlements, and matching provisioning profile downloaded manually. The driver loads (no errors!), and is visible in ioreg below the usb device (when plugged). The issue is that I never get any log from the driver, have reduced to minimal working code (below). When I debug with lldb, I load the symbols for my driver and break on init and Start - but lldb never triggers == never calls start or init. This is also why no logs. When I unplug the device, the driver process (ps aux) keeps running, causes a hard crash of the Mac with dext remove/or kill driver.dext process. I have asked Claude - but its just running in circles: check Info.plist=ok, check entitlements=ok, check code (minimal)=ok, check iig=ok, check provisioning profile=ok, check build settings=ok, check ioreg=ok, check code signature=ok, start over I don't get any log from my driver, which is consistent with init() not being called. All logs from kernel & friends (AMFI) do show the driver loading - no errors. Any tips appreciated! // USBDriver.iig #ifndef USBDriver_h #define USBDriver_h #include <USBDriverKit/IOUSBHostInterface.iig> class USBDriver: public IOService { public: virtual bool init() override; virtual void free() override; virtual kern_return_t Start(IOService * provider) override; virtual kern_return_t Stop(IOService * provider) override; }; // USBDriver.cpp #include <os/log.h> #include <DriverKit/DriverKit.h> #include "USBDriver.h" bool USBDriver::init() { if (!super::init()) return false; os_log(OS_LOG_DEFAULT, "terminal.driver: init()"); return true; } kern_return_t IMPL(USBDriver, Start) { os_log(OS_LOG_DEFAULT, "terminal.driver: Start()"); kern_return_t ret = super::Start(provider); if (ret != kIOReturnSuccess) { os_log(OS_LOG_DEFAULT, "terminal.driver: super::Start failed: 0x%08x", ret); return ret; } os_log(OS_LOG_DEFAULT, "terminal.driver: Start() success"); return super::Start(provider); } kern_return_t IMPL(USBDriver, Stop) { os_log(OS_LOG_DEFAULT, "terminal.driver: Stop()"); return super::Stop(provider); } void USBDriver::free() { os_log(OS_LOG_DEFAULT, "terminal.driver: free()"); super::free(); }

StoreKit Config file Options Grayed Out
I have a question concerning Xcode version 26. Ever since I installed this version on my Mac, I have been experiencing issues with the StoreKit configuration file. The Simulated StoreKit Failures check boxes and selections are all grayed out. Once in a while, I see a pop-up stating "The document 'TaConfig.storekit' could not be autosaved. The file has been changed by another application. The pop-up Save as... points to where my config file is located, but the config file is grayed out. I thought maybe the directory where the file is located is write protected, but I have been able to save other files to the same directory. The Edit Scheme... -> Run -> Options has the StoreKit Configuration set for my file TaConfig.storekit. It feels like there is an option somewhere that I'm missing.

Apple reviewer not seeing product pricing in paywall
Hello, I have a perplexing issue with apple reviewers not having the same experience as myself regarding the paywall. This is an Expo app and uses RevenueCat and SuperWall integrations. This app is going through its first review - it is not published yet. So the app and its subscriptions are being reviewed for the first time. I should also mention that this is my first time as an app developer, so please pardon my ignorance. When I install the app from TestFlight and launch it, I see the paywall with the product prices shown and I can complete a test purchase. Same for my friends who I've asked to test for me. But the apple reviewer does not see the product prices when the paywall is shown to them. Without being able to replicate the problem I am flying blind. I don't want to re-submit the app for review only to find the same problem exists. I also need to understand what is different between my testing environment and the apple testers. If anyone can point me in the right direction here I would really appreciate the help!

Trying to renew apple developer account after 2 years expiration
I recently renewed my Apple Developer account after a 2-year expiration and updated my payment details. I also received the new license agreement and accepted it. However, my account is still not marked as active, and I’m currently unable to deploy my app via TestFlight. I have already tried contacting support via email and phone but have not received a response yet. This issue is blocking our development and release process. Could you please advise on how to resolve this or escalate the case? Thank you in advance for your support.

Approval of first in-App purchase
I am looking for some insight and an assist (planning to test in-app purchase with TestFlight) - all works in Xcode. I have created my very first in-App purchases App (I have other paid apps in App store) Under Distribution tab in the Monetization section i created the in-app purchases item. I completed all fields and the status is now changed from waiting fior metadata to ready to submit.. Per my readings the in-app purchase item would be reviewed with a new version of the App. I uploaded a new version, added sandbox tester and submitted it for review.. My App in TestFlight now shows status of Testing, but the in-App purchase still shows waiting for review. On the Distribution tab the "Add for Review" button is active but it seems a bit illogical for me to click it as the in-App purchases is the only completed item on my App's distribution tab (I am not ready to submit for review yet..) So as illogical as it appears, is this the way to get your first in-App purchase approved?

Flutter iOS Project: WidgetKit Extension Not Embedding / Build Cycle Error
Hi, I need your opinion about an issue we faced while trying to implement an iOS widget in our Flutter app. Here is what we did and the problems we encountered: We created a Widget Extension (SwiftUI + WidgetKit) inside the existing Flutter iOS project. The widget files were generated correctly (Widget.swift, WidgetBundle.swift, Info.plist, etc.). However, during the integration, we faced multiple issues: Build Cycle Error We repeatedly got: “Cycle inside Runner; building could produce unreliable results” This was related to embedding the widget extension into the Runner target. Embed Problems Sometimes Xcode did not automatically create the “Embed App Extensions” phase. When we added it manually → build cycle errors appeared. When we removed it → the widget was not embedded at all (no PlugIns folder in Runner.app). Duplicate / Conflicting Embed The extension appeared both in: “Embed Foundation Extensions” “Frameworks, Libraries, and Embedded Content” Removing one often broke the build or removed the other as well. Widget Not Appearing Even when build succeeded: Widget did not appear on device PlugIns/Widget.appex was missing from build output Flutter Linking Errors In another test project, we got: Undefined symbol: _FlutterMethodChannel Undefined symbol: _FlutterBasicMessageChannel etc. This happened because the widget extension tried to link Flutter dependencies, which should not happen. App Group Confusion We also tried adding App Group (group.com.xxx), but behavior didn’t change. Conclusion: We suspect the root issue is: The Flutter template we are using was not designed for WidgetKit integration Xcode embedding phases and Flutter build scripts conflict with extension targets Question: In your opinion: Is this a known limitation with Flutter-based iOS projects? Is there a clean way to integrate WidgetKit without breaking the Runner target? Or is it better to create a separate native iOS module for the widget? Any guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Can third-party transit apps receive the NFC HCE entitlement in the EEA?
Hi everyone, I'm looking for clarity on the NFC HCE entitlement process for third-party apps in the EEA. I've built an alternative client for Milan's public transport app (ATM Milano) on Android by reverse engineering the original app. It offers the same core functionality(users still need a valid transit subscription) just with a different UI and better UX. I'd now like to port it to iOS. According to Apple's documentation, NFC HCE was opened to third parties in the EEA starting with iOS 17.4. However, the API requires an entitlement from Apple. I have a few questions: Is the entitlement required regardless of distribution method? Even if I distribute through a third-party marketplace like AltStore PAL rather than the App Store, do I still need Apple to grant the HCE entitlement? Are third-party/alternative clients eligible for the entitlement? My app isn't a competing transit provider, it's an alternative frontend for an existing service. Users must hold a valid subscription with the official provider. Is there anything in the entitlement criteria that would disqualify this kind of app? What's the correct process to apply?Developer Support directed me here, so I'm hoping someone from Apple engineering or someone who has gone through the process can share the steps. Thanks!

What is the optimal number of records per shard?
Hello, I am currently developing a PIR server using the pir-server-example repository. We are anticipating a total of 10 million URLs for our dataset. In this context, what would be the optimal shard size (number of records per shard) to balance computational latency and communication overhead? Any advice or best practices for handling a dataset of this scale would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

URL Filter Network Extension
Hello team, I am trying to find out a way to block urls in the chrome browser if it is found in local blocked list cache. I found URL Filter Network very much suitable for my requirement. But I see at multiple places that this solution is only for Enterprise level or MDM or supervised device. So can I run this for normal user ? as my targeting audience would be bank users. One more thing how can I test this in development environment if we need supervised devices and do we need special entitlement ? When trying to run sample project in the simulator then getting below error

Help: Wrong Apple Developer Program Choice While Enrollment Is Processing
Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice regarding an Apple Developer Program enrollment issue. I recently submitted an enrollment request, which is currently still “processing.” However, I realized afterward that I selected the wrong enrollment option for my intended use (internal distribution). I have not completed the payment yet, and I’ve already contacted Apple Developer Support requesting to update or cancel the enrollment so I can choose the correct program but I haven’t received a response yet. Has anyone experienced something similar? Can Apple modify the enrollment before payment? Or is it better to just wait and let it expire, then reapply? Any guidance or shared experiences would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Xcode 26.x Frequently Freezes During Breakpoint Debugging with Simulator
When I use Xcode 26 (0.1, 1) for debugging and hit a breakpoint, using "step over" causes the debugger to freeze at a random line of code. Clicking "Pause program execution" indicates that the line is being executed, but the breakpoint never exits, seemingly causing a freeze. The application on the simulator also becomes unresponsive. However, when I do not use breakpoints, my program runs smoothly, and debugging on a physical device does not cause any freezes. This issue only occurs with the simulator. I am using Xcode on Apple Silicon, and due to some third-party SDKs that depend on Rosetta, our app can only run on the Rosetta simulator. We did not encounter this issue when using Xcode 16.x for simulator debugging. The current situation with Xcode 26.x significantly reduces our development efficiency. What could be causing this, and is there a solution?

Custom Pricing and Features for Non-Renewing Subscriptions
I hope you are doing well. I am reaching out to inquire about a few aspects of implementing non-renewing subscriptions in our app. Firstly, we have encountered a limitation in App Store Connect where the maximum price tier available for non-renewing subscriptions in Euros is €1199. However, our product is priced at €1799. Could anyone please advise how we can handle this scenario? Is there a way to request custom pricing beyond the available tiers, or is there an alternative approach you would recommend? Additionally, we would like clarification on the following: Promo Codes: Are promo codes supported for each non-renewing subscription product? If so, how can we configure and distribute them? Installment Payments: Is it possible to enable installment-based payments for non-renewing subscriptions? If yes, could you guide us on how to set this up or if there are any prerequisites?

iOS: Issues getting beginBackgroundTaskWithName working reliably
We have tried using background tasks for file saving via (UIBackgroundTaskIdentifier) beginBackgroundTaskWithName:(NSString *) taskName expirationHandler:(void (^)(void)) handler; when our app goes into the background and/or is closed by the user. But we cannot make it work the way the documentation tells us it should. While task creation never reports an issue (in fact it never calls our expiration handler at all) and the returned task id is always valid, when we ask for how much time we have left via backgroundTimeRemaining we always get 6s instead of the specified 30s. We tried to create the task when the app state goes to inactive or when our delegate is called via applicationDidEnterBackground but it makes no difference, besides the fact that the remaining time reported is basically max double, when the app is not in background yet which is by design as far we understand. But we don't even get the 6s for saving when a user closes the app. Because almost immediately after applicationDidEnterBackground our delegate is called via applicationWillTerminate which will then again almost immediately end in the app receiving a SIGKILL. So we must be doing something wrong. Why would applicationWillTerminate be called at all when we have a valid background task that reports we have 6s left? We tried blocking the thread in both background and terminate to at least give us the 5s the spec says we have before we get the SIGKILL. That works in general but doesn't feel like the correct approach and we do need more time than the 5s or 6s we get this way. Are we supposed to add something to our plist in order for these background tasks to work correctly? It is very confusing that there is a second mechanism that's also called background tasks for running apps in the background in general, which is not applicable to us. Are we supposed to block somewhere when we create the task? Or even spin up an extra thread for the task? Why is our expirationHandler never called? The spec says that our handler should be called if it was unable to "grant the ask assertion" so it seems like we do not have that problem. But it's also supposed to be called just before we are running out of time but by that time the app is already dead. This was all tested on iOS 26.3 and it is probably worth mentioning that our app is Qt-based.

Does using HIDVirtualDevice rule out Mac App Store distribution?
Hi, I’m looking for clarification from folks familiar with CoreHID rather than App Review, as the guys there have not responded to my post (https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/820676) We have a sandboxed macOS app that creates a virtual HID device (HIDVirtualDevice) as described in Creating virtual devices https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corehid/creatingvirtualdevices To work at all, the app requires the entitlement: com.apple.developer.hid.virtual.device With this entitlement present, macOS shows the system prompt requesting Accessibility permission App would like to control this computer using accessibility features. Grant access to this application in Security and Privacy preferences located in System Preferences. when HIDVirtualDevice(properties:) is called. There is no mention of Accessibility in the HIDVirtualDevice documentation, but the behavior is reproducible and seems unavoidable. My question is therefore: Is creating a virtual HID device from userspace via HIDVirtualDevice considered inherently incompatible with Mac App Store distribution? In other words: Is the Accessibility prompt an expected side‑effect of this API? And if so, does that mean using HIDVirtualDevice is only practical for direct (non–App Store) distribution unless the app is explicitly an accessibility tool? I’m not asking about review policy details—just whether, from a technical/system point of view, HIDVirtualDevice is actually intended to be usable by App Store apps. For context, there seem to be public, non‑accessibility uses of Apple’s virtual HID infrastructure, like this recent post: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/820708 and corresponding Github repo this project. I don't know if these intend to use the App Store, but they might end up in the same situation. Any insights from people who’ve worked with CoreHID would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Magnus

Gestures not working correctly when setting the fov orientation to .horizontal
Hi there, I've discovered an issue with gesture handling in RealityKit when setting the camera’s fieldOfViewOrientation to horizontal. For instance, if I render a simple box at the center of the view with a collision shape that exactly matches its dimensions, the actual hit area behaves as if it's smaller than the box. Additionally, when attempting to drag the box away from the center, the hit area appears misaligned—offset slightly towards the center. Since the default fieldOfViewOrientation is vertical and everything works as expected in that mode, it seems that the gesture system might be assuming a vertical FOV. Given that the API allows setting it to horizontal, perhaps gestures should function correctly regardless of the orientation? Thank you!

Xcode documentation has disappeared
I'm using Xcode 26.4 for Swift development on macOS 26.4.1. It seems that the documentation for the "Foundation" framework has disappeared, possibly after an Xcode update (not the latest one). "Foundation" does not appear in the left-side list in the developer documentation window, and searching for "URLSession", "UndoManager" finds no result. Autocomplete for these classes works. Quick help on URLSession shows just "inherits from" and "conforms to", but no description and no link to a help page. I've tried deleting files in ~/Library/Developer so that it rebuilds the index, and also fully removing and reinstalling Xcode and rebooting, but nothing seems to solve it. Is there any way to get the full documentation back in Xcode.
