When I search for text in a .html file using the Command-Spacebar spotlight popup the .html file is never shown in the results. On the other hand the .html file does show in the result when I search in the Finder window search field, or when I search in the Terminal using mdfind.
Why is this and how can I fix? I want to use spotlight to find .html files.
You can reproduce the problem like this:
echo spotlighttest > testone.txt
% echo spotlighttest > testtwo.html
% mdfind spotlighttest
2024-12-30 14:22:28.552 mdfind[28326:550500] [UserQueryParser] Loading keywords and predicates for locale "en_US"
2024-12-30 14:22:28.553 mdfind[28326:550500] [UserQueryParser] Loading keywords and predicates for locale "en"
~/Desktop/Spotlighttest/testone.txt
~/Desktop/Spotlighttest/testtwo.html
I believe this shows that both files are index properly, but if you then do Command-Spacebar and search for "Spotlighttest" I think you will see that only testone shows as a result.
Edit I believe this is a change in macOS 15.x and used to work correctly in previous macOS

I've implemented a custom system extension VPN for macOS, using a Packet Tunnel Provider.
I saw something suspicious on macOS 15.2.0: When I disconnected my VPN, the UTUN was not being cleared.
This results in a lot of UTUNs when the user connects and disconnects multiple times.
utun77: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
utun78: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
This happens only on macOS 15.2. I tried the same app on older versions (15.0, 15.1.x), and it didn't reproduce.
Can those 'dirty' UTUNs cause a networking problem?
Since it happens only on macOS 15.2, is there a bug in this OS version?
How can I check if something in my code causes this behavior? How can I 'fix' it or force clean the 'dirty' UTUNs?
My app will be woken when Activity.pushToStartTokenUpdates delivered the new token.
But I want to know how can I get the activity.pushTokenUpdates when my server start an live activity via push notification, because without the activity.pushTokenUpdates, my server can't deliver update information after start the live activity.
For now, I check the activities when my app switch foreground/background. But how can I be notified when my app is in foreground and server start an live activity by push notification.
I've tried "content-available": 1 in LA's payload aps, but I also can't be notified in the didReceiveRemoteNotification in appDelegate.
I want to check if the device has a internet connection or not by pinging DNS "8.8.8.8".
connection.send(content: content, completion: .contentProcessed {[weak self] error in
send function is not returning any error even if the host is unreachable.
I am checking if I can receive the data or not but connection.receiveMessage function never returns.
This is the complete code which I am following:
private let networkMonitor = NWPathMonitor()
private var connection: NWConnection
@MainActor var isConnectedToInternet = false
init(host: NWEndpoint.Host = "8.8.8.8",
port: NWEndpoint.Port = 53) {
let endpoint = NWEndpoint.hostPort(host: host, port: port)
connection = NWConnection(to: endpoint, using: .udp)
startMonitoring()
}
private func startMonitoring() {
networkMonitor.pathUpdateHandler = { [weak self] path in
guard let self else { return }
ping(callback: { isSuccess in
print("***** ping status:", isSuccess)
Task { @MainActor in
self.isConnectedToInternet = isSuccess
}
})
}
let queue = DispatchQueue(label: QueueLabel.networkMonitor)
networkMonitor.start(queue: queue)
}
func ping(
host: NWEndpoint.Host = "8.8.8.8",
port: NWEndpoint.Port = 53,
callback: @escaping ((Bool) -> Void)
) {
var didSendState = false
connection.stateUpdateHandler = {[weak self] state in
guard let self = self else { return }
guard !didSendState else {
if state != .cancelled {
cancel(connection)
}
return
}
switch state {
case .ready:
// State is ready now send data
let content = "Ping".data(using: .utf8)
let startTime = Date()
connection.send(content: content, completion: .contentProcessed {[weak self] error in
guard let self = self else { return }
if error != nil {
callback(false)
didSendState = true
cancel(connection)
} else {
print("Ping sent, waiting for response...")
connection.receiveMessage { [weak self] content, _, _, receiveError in
guard let self = self else { return }
if let receiveError {
print("Error receiving ping: \(receiveError.localizedDescription)")
callback(false)
} else if let content = content, String(data: content, encoding: .utf8) == "Ping" {
let roundTripTime = Date().timeIntervalSince(startTime)
print("Ping received! Round-trip time: \(roundTripTime) seconds")
callback(true)
} else {
print("Invalid response received")
callback(true)
}
didSendState = true
cancel(connection)
}
}
})
case .failed( _), .waiting( _), .cancelled:
didSendState = true
callback(false)
case .setup, .preparing:
// No callback because the ping has not yet succeeded or failed
break
@unknown default:
didSendState = true
callback(false)
// We don't know what this unknown default means, so cancel pings to be safe
cancel(connection)
}
}
connection.start(queue: .main)
}
func cancel(_ connection: NWConnection) {
connection.cancel()
}
}
Can anyone please help what I am doing wrong.

Hello
I'd like to be able to rotate an mapkit.ImageAnnotation.
From this post on Stack Overflow https://stackoverflow.com/questions/78686475/need-to-style-a-mapkit-js-marker-annotation/78702266#78702266 I understand that it's possible, for example, to the following: map.annotations[0].element.style.cursor = "pointer"; and this works for me.
However, I need to do something like the following, but it doesn't work: map.annotations[0].element.style.transform = "rotate(90deg) ";
Any ideas how a mapkit.ImageAnnotation and mapkit.MarkerAnnotation can be rotated?
Thanks in advance
Sam
I upgraded my iPhone 13 Pro Max last week, but I am unable to connect my Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones via Bluetooth. I'm not sure why everything else connects just fine except my headphones. Please send help.

Background:
① We initiate push notification requests by generating tokens using the p8 certificate.
② The lowest version of the server we use is Ubuntu 16.04, and the image is Alpine Linux 3.15.
③ Currently, the root certificate USERTrust_RSA_Certification_Authority.pem is default in the system and has the same MD5 value as the provided download file. The time for both is 2019.
My questions:
① Which certificate should we download and add to the server's trust store, Root Certificates?
② Does the system we are using default include this certificate?
③ What operations are needed for this server certificate replacement?

I have an iOS app which contains a Network Extension that subclasses the NEPacketTunnelProvider, acting as a packet-tunnel VPN. After deploying the app on the device as a regular app, it runs the following code fragment:
NETunnelProviderManager.loadAllFromPreferences { managers, _ in
self.manager = managers?.first ?? NETunnelProviderManager()
self.manager.protocolConfiguration = getConfiguration()
self.manager.saveToPreferences { error in
// Handle errors or show a "Connect" button in the UI
}
}
This asks the user to install the extension as a "Device VPN". I can then use try? self.manager?.connection.startVPNTunnel() to start the VPN (and later stop it when needed). So far, this works fine.
Now, I want to deploy the app with an MDM and set it up as the "custom VPN" of a "Per-App VPN". I have tested the setup using
a real MDM, AND
using the "development" setup described in NETunnelProviderManager.
In both cases, the "Per-App VPN" shows up as a VPN in the "Settings" app.
However, in both cases I am unable to retrieve, configure or use the "Per-App VPN". The code fragment posted above returns no NETunnelProviderManager at all. When instantiating one on my own and triggering self.manager.saveToPreferences(), it queries the user to install a "Device VPN". While I can control and use the latter, this is clearly not what I want after having gone through the pain of installing the "Per-App VPN".
How can I retrieve the NETunnelProviderManager of the "Per-App VPN"? And then use it to configure and control the VPN connection? (Ideally, I would like to use the same app and the same Network Extension for both use cases, leaving the choice of which VPN type to use to the user or the user's MDM administrator.)

In the documentation for a Message Filter Extension it states:
If you have servers that can help your app extension determine how to handle a message, you must add the Associated Domains capability to your Xcode project and specify those domains.
(https://developer.apple.com/documentation/sms_and_call_reporting/sms_and_mms_message_filtering/creating_a_message_filter_app_extension)
The words servers and domains are in the plural.
If it's possible to specify multiple servers/domains for a Message Filter Extension then how is that done? There's no documentation nor reference for that.
If multiple domains can be added to the info.plist then what is the iOS behavior in that case?
Can the extension supply/change which domain is used at run time?

We would like to be able to distinguish between iPhones and Apple Watches when scanning for devices using a Laird BLE module.
We know that we can identify an Apple device from the manufacturer data returned in the scan report. 0x004C is the registered identifier for Apple.
In the remaining data returned is it possible identify the device type?
We note that empirically, 4C001005 seems to correlate to an Apple Watch. How reliable is this?
It is useful for us, because it means we do not need to connect to this device to see if it is advertising a service that we own.
Connecting over BLE is of course an expensive operation.
Here is a simple snippet of a Swift App doing a similar thing, to illustrate the question:
func centralManager(_ central: CBCentralManager, didDiscover peripheral: CBPeripheral, advertisementData: [String : Any], rssi RSSI: NSNumber)
{
guard
let manufData: Data = advertisementData[CBAdvertisementDataManufacturerDataKey] as? Data
else
{
return
}
let hexEncodedManufData: String = manufData.map { String(format: "%02hhx", $0) }.joined()
print("Manufacturer Data: \(hexEncodedManufData): ")
// Manufacturer Data: 4c001007351ff9f9036238: Apple device
// Manufacturer Data: 4c001006331ec0640f88: Apple device
// Manufacturer Data: 4c0010052b18804eb1: Apple watch?
// Manufacturer Data: 4c0010052b18804eb1: Apple watch?
}
Recently, after updating the Developer app to the latest version, my iPad has been unable to open this app as it crashes immediately upon launch. Prior to the update, the app functioned normally. My device is an 11-inch iPad Pro from 2021, running iPadOS 17.3. I have tried troubleshooting steps such as reinstalling the app and restarting the device, but these actions have not resolved the issue. However, I need to use this specific version of the system, iPadOS 17.3, for software testing purposes and cannot upgrade the system. Other apps on my device work normally without any issues. Is there a solution to this problem? I have attempted to contact the developer support team in China, but they were also unable to provide a resolution. This issue is reproducible 100% of the time on my iPad.
Здравствуйте, я зашел на чужой Apple ID под предлогом мошенников и теперь не могу выйти, помогите мне пожалуйста, это полностью мой телефон и я смогу доказать, что он мой.
I am working with an open source watch called PineTime to implement ANCS support so users can receive iOS notifications in the watch.
I am having g trouble discovering the ANCS on an iOS device. The watch is properly paired and bonded. I realize that the ANCS may not always be present, so I also subscribed to the GATT Service changed characteristic, but never received a notification/indication for a service becoming active.
Is there something I am missing? Thanks!
Hello, it seems like starting from iOS 18.0, it is possible to entirely skip the notifications permission request alert by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. It doesn't work this way with any other kinds of system alerts, nor in iOS 17.4 (tested it in the Simulator though).
So, is it a bug? Or is it intended? Either way, I haven't found any information regarding that.
The problem with that is when you skip the alert, notifications are missing from the app preferences.
