is there documentation where we can find details for historical parameters / limitations - so far i've found that the days limit on single API calls days limit is 7. Any other similar specs would be good to have

I want to start the mail application from the development application, but the mail application made by Apple starts. It doesn't work even if I change the default email application to Outlook.
When you delete the Apple Mail app, Outlook starts. I want to automatically attach the generated pdf file to the email, but that doesn't work either.
Please tell me how to code.

Hi,
I'm trying to setup PIR service for live caller id lookup (in python but based on swift example: https://github.com/apple/live-caller-id-lookup-example). The swift example provides utilities for database setup and encryption, but I can't find any specification about which key is used for database encryption and how the ios system knows about this key in order to be able to construct the PIR requests.
So my question is how does the PIR service communicate the secret key to ios system or vice versa? (specific to the test environment, before onboarding)
Hi everyone,
I have a simple question regarding App Intents. I have an intent that defines a few parameters, one of which is a Date. When the user is prompted for input, I’d like the date picker to start at a specific value (e.g., tomorrow) instead of the default current date.
Is there a way to set an initial/default value for the date parameter in an App Intent?
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
My app is available in TestFlight but has been rejected in App Review with the review feedback that the app clip "just shows a blank screen".
However, in the TestFlight app, the App Clip works as expected and brings up the clip. It also works correctly from Xcode testing.
Any ideas on what the problem could be? It is using the default App Clip link (appclip.apple.com)
Environment: macOS 15.2 (24C101) with Xcode 16.2 (16C5032a)
Goal: I am trying to build a simple IMKInputController-based input method.
Problem: My .app bundle registers successfully and I can select it as an input source. When selected, it blocks keyboard input, but my handle method does not seem to execute or produce output. I have placed NSLog statements in my controller's init and handle methods.
Code for the controller:
import InputMethodKit
// The IMKTextInput protocol is provided by the framework.
// We don't need to define our own bridging protocol for this test.
public class HelloWorldController: IMKInputController {
public override init!(server: IMKServer!, delegate: Any!, client inputClient: Any!) {
super.init(server: server, delegate: delegate, client: inputClient)
NSLog("HelloWorldIME: Controller has been initialized.")
}
public override func handle(_ event: NSEvent!, client sender: Any!) -> Bool {
NSLog("HelloWorldIME: handle() method was called.")
// ================== FINAL FIX APPLIED HERE ==================
// 1. First, we ensure the client is a fundamental Objective-C object.
guard let clientObject = sender as? NSObject else {
NSLog("HelloWorldIME: Error - client object is not an NSObject.")
return false
}
NSLog("HelloWorldIME: Successfully cast client to NSObject.")
// 2. Now that we have an NSObject, we can safely check if it responds to the selector.
let selector = #selector(IMKTextInput.insertText(_:replacementRange:))
if !clientObject.responds(to: selector) {
NSLog("HelloWorldIME: Error - client object does not respond to the insertText selector.")
return false
}
NSLog("HelloWorldIME: Client responds to insertText. Preparing to insert text.")
// 3. Since we've confirmed it responds, we can now safely treat it as an IMKTextInput
// and call the method.
let client = clientObject as! IMKTextInput
let stringToInsert = "A"
let replacementRange = NSRange(location: NSNotFound, length: 0)
client.insertText(stringToInsert, replacementRange: replacementRange)
NSLog("HelloWorldIME: Called insertText with string '\(stringToInsert)'. Action complete.")
// ========================================================
return true
}
}
I am creating an iOS app that needs to parse the text from a PDF document. I can read the entire PDF document's text using the string property, but if it's a large PDF document, this could cause delays for users.
From the documentation, I came across the beginFindString function, which seems to asynchronously, with no return?
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/pdfkit/pdfdocument/beginfindstring(_:withoptions:))
Unfortunately I cannot find examples on how to use this function or its intended purpose/functionality, so any guidance would be appreciated.
My goal is to read the PDF document one line at a time, searching for newlines ('\n'), then parsing that line as needed. I'm hoping the beginFindString function will be useful.
Is there any way to use the screen time API on Mac?
I am a macOS software developer using Xcode and Objective-C. I have a wallpaper app on the App Store, and recently, a few users have asked if the app can be excluded from the ‘Screen Time’ statistics. Is there a way to allow users to choose whether or not the app should appear in the ‘Screen Time’ tracking? I have already set LSUIElement to YES in the info.plist, but the app is still being tracked in ‘Screen Time.
Hi I'm trying to build a screen time app and the Apple docs and APIs really leave something to be desired. I want to block apps on a schedule. That's it. To do this I need my DeviceActivityMonitorExt to know which apps to block. I need to somehow pass a DeviceActivitySelection from the main app into this DeviceActivityMonitorExt. How can I do this?
Hi,
I'm using ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 14+ to record a single window. I've noticed that the Presenter Overlay only appears when capturing the entire screen, but it does not appear when recording a specific window or a region.
Is there a way to enable the Presenter Overlay while recording a single window or a defined region, similar to how it works with full-screen capture?
Any guidance or clarification would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Apple engineering team,
I’m trying to integrate the new Live Caller ID Lookup (PIR) on iOS using your pir-service-example code as well as a custom mock server in Vapor, but the extension never advances past the /issue/token-key-for-user-token step. I’ve tried both:
1. Official Example
Cloned https://github.com/apple/pir-service-example
Ran PIRService locally
Confirmed that
GET /.well-known/private-token-issuer-directory → 200
GET /issue/token-key-for-user-token → 200 (DER bytes, correct SPKI)
No POST /issue ever fires
2. Mock Server (Vapor)
Implemented all five endpoints (/config, /.well-known/private-token-issuer-directory, /issue/token-key-for-user-token, /issue, /queries)
Verified with curl and openssl asn1parse that:
GET /.well-known/private-token-issuer-directory
Content-Type: application/private-token-issuer-directory
{ "issuer-request-uri":"https://…/issue", "token-keys":[…] }
GET /issue/token-key-for-user-token
Content-Type: application/octet-stream
<DER bytes>
Added Cache-Control: public, max-age=3600 on directory and SPKI
Stubbed POST /issue to always return { "token": "" }
Still no POST /issue request from the extension
Reproduction Steps
Install and enable a Live Lookup extension pointing to my server.
Trigger an incoming call on device.
Watch server logs—only see the two GETs, never /issue or /queries.
Expected Behavior
After fetching the SPKI DER, the framework should issue a POST /issue call (Privacy Pass flow) and then POST /queries.
Observed Behavior
Stuck in an infinite loop of:
GET /.well-known/private-token-issuer-directory
GET /issue/token-key-for-user-token
(repeat…)
No progression to the /issue or /queries endpoints.
What I’ve Tried
Verified JSON kebab-case and headers exactly match examples
Confirmed SPKI DER is valid via openssl asn1parse
Added Cache-Control headers
Tested on real device, localhost url, and ngrok public URL
Mocked a valid-looking token response
Could you advise what additional requirement or format detail I’m missing that prevents from advancing past /issue/token-key-for-user-token?
These are the main files:
LiveLookupExtension.swift
routes.swift
service-config.json
Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,
i'm trying to request in a AppIntent an array of strings. But I want to give the user the chance to add more than one String.
Yet, I do it so:
import AppIntent
struct AddHomework: AppIntent {
// some Parameters
@Parameter(title: "Tasks")
var tasks: [String]?
@Parameter(title: "New Task") //Only for the special request
var input: String?
private func collectTasks() async throws -> [String] {
var collectedTasks: [String] = tasks ?? []
while true {
if !collectedTasks.isEmpty {
let addMore = try await $input.requestConfirmation(for: "Möchtest du noch eine Aufgabe hinzufügen?")
if !addMore {
break
}
}
let newTask = try await $input.requestValue("Please enter your task:")
collectedTasks.append(newTask)
}
return collectedTasks
}
@MainActor
func perform() async throws -> some IntentResult {
let finalTasks = try await collectTasks()
// some more code
return .result()
}
}
But this is not working. The Shortcut is ending without requesting anything. But it is not crashing.
I would thankfully for some help.
I'm using FamilyActivityPicker to get consent for app/category management, which returns a FamilyActivitySelection object.
I serialize this FamilyActivitySelection object (just applicationTokens and categoryTokens) and pass it to my DeviceActivityMonitor extension via App Group UserDefaults. I am using the JSON encoder/decoder over PropertyList (though both seem to exhibit the same behavior).
After inspecting the FamilyActivitySelection object immediately after it's returned by FamilyActivityPicker in the main app, the application.bundleIdentifier property is consistently nil for every Application object within selection.applications. Similarly, category.localizedDisplayName is nil for ActivityCategory objects. This happens whether "Select All Apps" is used or if apps/categories are selected individually.
I understand that this is the intended behavior due to Apple's user privacy policies. I read on another post that my app can be provided with bundle identifiers and app names within Shield Configuration extensions and Device Activity Report extensions - I'm not sure which ones or how exactly to do this.
I am aware that I can use Label(applicationToken) SwiftUI view to display the app name/icon, but this doesn't give programmatic access to the bundleIdentifier string.
My app will not log or export these bundleIdentifiers outside of its sandbox. My goal is to create mappings to the FamilyActivitySelection with the publicly accessible bundleIdentifiers.
Any guidance, examples, or clarification on the intended workflow for this scenario would be greatly appreciated!
Hi
I am developing a game app with Epic Unreal Engine.
I am testing this as testFlight these days.
My problem is “launch URL” what a function in Unreal Engine.
This is a function that allows user to search the Internet with the entered URL.
It worked well before. But not now. I don't know when it did start not working. It's like after the iPhone IOS update or the Xcode update.
Mac sequoia 15.1.1
Xcode 16.2
( Unreal Engine 5.4.4 )
IOS is 18.2. but It didn't work since the just previous version.
Any advice can I get?

Hello everyone,
I’m currently developing an app that uses the Family Controls API, specifically the Screen Time API. However, my current entitlement is limited to development mode, which prevents me from publishing my app on TestFlight.
I have already contacted Apple Developer Support for production access but wanted to reach out to the community as well and I was referenced to FamilyControls API documentation and I couldn't find anything related to my case. Has anyone successfully upgraded their entitlement from development-only to production? Any insights on the process, tips for communicating with Developer Support, or guidance on ensuring full compliance with the Family Controls guidelines would be extremely helpful.
Hello,
Recently we got a question about the keyboard sensor data collection in our research project:
"For the typing statistics, was any typing included or only messaging and notes? E.g., typing in the browser, phone search, calendar, etc?"
While I believe it should be any typing included, I was not able to find a document explicitly stating that. Could you help to confirm it or guide me to any documentation explaining it?
Thanks!
Am showing daily screen-time of a user in my app in Device Activity Report Extension. The only way to get that is to sum up all the activityDuration of apps/categories/domains. But it differs a lot from phone's settings screen-time, why?
I have debugged in details and counted manually the time spent on each app and it turned out that the calculation is appearing correctly in my app but Phone settings showing quite less time on top (Day).
Greetings my fellow engineers,
I use SwiftData in my iOS app. The schema is unversioned and consists of a single model. I've been modifying the model for almost two years now and relying on automatic database migrations. I had no problems for all that time, but now trying to add a property to the model or even remove a property from the model results in an error which seems like SwiftData is no longer capable of performing an automatic migration.
The log console has things like the following:
CoreData: error: NSUnderlyingError : Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=134190 "(null)" UserInfo={reason=Each property must have a unique renaming identifier}
CoreData: error: reason : Can't find or automatically infer mapping model for migration
CoreData: error: storeType: SQLite
CoreData: error: configuration: default
CoreData: annotation: options:
CoreData: annotation: NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption : 1
CoreData: annotation: NSInferMappingModelAutomaticallyOption : 1
CoreData: annotation: NSPersistentStoreRemoteChangeNotificationOptionKey : 1
CoreData: annotation: NSPersistentHistoryTrackingKey : 1
CoreData: error: <NSPersistentStoreCoordinator: 0x7547b5480>: Attempting recovery from error encountered during addPersistentStore: 0x753f8d800 Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=134140 "Persistent store migration failed, missing mapping model."
Have you ever encountered such an issue? What are my options?
I have been using the hourly weather forecast API, for some reason sometimes the API fails with 400 Bad Request, but on retrying just a minute later the call successfully returns data. The start and end time are 2 days apart so I don't think it's an issue with the time frame.
The failed calls also don't return any reason so not sure what is the exact failure.
Has anyone encountered this issue or knows why this might be happening??
Thanks!!
