We have received some information that with the release of iOS 18, there have been notable changes in how this API behaves, can apple team shed some light on this? on ios 17 this worked without much issues, what has changed on ios 18?

Hello! I am working on a screentime app and wondering if anyone has had success achieving reliable background shield application while using com.apple.ManagedSettingsUI.shield-configuration-service? I recently switched from com.apple.deviceactivity.shield-configuration (which worked reliably but isn't accepted by TestFlight) and have not found any consistency getting shields to apply while the app is backgrounded. I believe this is a known limitation of ManagedSettingsUI and want to know if there are successful workarounds or any specific patterns/timing that improve consistency?

I've been trying to understand what kind of UX is available if my app is using the default-dialer capability. I have found https://developer.apple.com/documentation/livecommunicationkit/preparing-your-app-to-be-the-default-dialer-app and I am in the EU. On android I built the UX I want and it's quite neat, so now I'm trying to work. out what I can get on iOS. Because the product is kind of worthless with just android. I have built a simple dialer ux with a numberpad, contact lookup etc. Then when the user presses the Call button does it have to pop up the system prompt "Call number"? Does it have to swap over to the system ui for the actual call? So there's no way to show information about the call, during the call? Or am I using the frameworks incorrectly? I am very new to iOS development. TrueCaller and others show validation, but as I understand it they pre-fetch all the data, I can't do that.

We are in the process of updating our legacy Spotlight MDImporter to the new macOS Spotlight App Extension. The transition works well for standard attributes such as title, textContent, and keywords. However, we encounter an issue when adding custom attributes to the CSSearchableItemAttributeSet. These custom attributes are not being persisted, which means they cannot be queried using a Spotlight NSMetadataQuery. I need to display a different app name based on the user's region/language. This setup works correctly for regions like the United Kingdom, Australia. However, for Singapore, the app always falls back to the UK version (en-GB) instead of picking the localized name defined under en-SG. Interestingly, system alerts like location permission and app deletion do use the en-SG localization correctly. Could you help identify why the app name isn't picking up the en-SG version and suggest how we can resolve this?

What do developers need to keep in mind when building for watchOS 26? To adopt the new design system, start with updating your app for watchOS 10 – If you have done so, your app will be mostly ready for watchOS 26. Apps that are using XCUIAutomation to make sure their user interface behaves as intended can use the XCUIDeviceHandGesture.flick to automate tests that verify that their app responds appropriately to the Wrist Flick gesture. For apps using automated testing, the XCUIDeviceHandGesture.doubleTap can be also be used to automate testing of the app with the Double Tap gesture. See XCUIDevice.perform(handGesture:) 4. Can HRV measurements be triggered on demand via API in watchOS? Guidelines or processes for enabling energy-intensive biometric sampling on development devices for IRB-approved research? You don’t have direct control on the sampling rate in watchOS. You can use HealthKit (HKQuantityTypeIdentifierHeartRateVariabilitySDNN, to be specific) to query the HRV data, once the system has sampled and persisted the data to HealthKit. If that doesn’t help, we suggest that you file a feedback report with your concrete use case for us to investigate. Specific to IRB-approved research using Apple Watch or its companion iPhone, you might want to look at this FAQ and SensorKit to see if they can be of any help. 5. What is the best advice for someone who is new to making a watchOS app that’s been on iOS and iPadOS? You can start with exploring the system experience features on watchOS, such as notifications, controls, and widgets, and getting familiar with the system spaces, like Smart Stack, watch face, and control center. Knowing the watchOS app design principles and practices is important as well. Design and build apps for WatchOS 10 is a great resource for this topic. Was there any extension this year to the 7 day limit on querying Apple Health data on the watch? There is no change on the limit this year. You can get this official limit at runtime using earliestPermittedSampleDate. There are some exceptions, and so don't be surprised if you see some data types are retained longer. The companion iPhone holds the full set of the health data. If you need to access the health data that has been purged from the Apple Watch, consider doing it with your iOS app, and then passing the result to your watchOS app.

Its possible to add the Declared Age Range entitlement to extensions, in particular I'm looking at a Notification Service Extension. However the DAR requestAgeRange() API takes a view controller as a parameter. Presumably therefore its not possible for a notification service extension to obtain the age range itself directly? Yes the extension can read it from shared groups if the app reads it and set it into the group. However the scenario I'm thinking of is this: App runs and gets the age range. Sets its functionality accordingly. The server sends pushes which are intercepted by the notification service extension, the extension adjusts its functionality based upon what the app wrote to shared groups The user changes the age range setting, but the app doesn't run. The extension keeps receiving pushes but its functionality is now out of sync with the age range as its not able to obtain it directly

Hi all, I'm working on a Call Directory Extension using CXCallDirectoryExtensionContext. I want to add a list of numbers to be blocked. The extension is enabled in Settings → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification. The extension is reloaded after adding numbers. The array of numbers is sorted in ascending order before calling addBlockingEntry. Despite all this, the number still isn’t blocked. Does anyone know why the print shows the number added, but it doesn’t actually block the call? Am I missing something in the way CXCallDirectoryExtensionContext works? Thanks for any advice!

Let's say I upgrade my app to a new version, do I need to call startRecording again to init the data collection process? will it be able to query the data collected from previous version's app ?

As a result, Apple’s CDN seems to have cached a timeout / missing file response. We’ve since corrected the issue — the AASA file is now valid and accessible at: https://our-domain.com/.well-known/apple-app-site-association sidenote: I am using "our-domain" as an alias. It is not our actual domain. We have verified that we return a valid JSON, HTTPS 200, correct MIME type. We used apple recommended tools to check this as well as other tools we found on the internet. However, when fetching through the Apple CDN: https://app-site-association.cdn-apple.com/a/v1/our-domain.com we still receive: Apple-Failure-Reason: SWCERR00301 Timeout Apple-Failure-Details: {"cause":"context deadline exceeded (Client.Timeout exceeded while awaiting headers)"} This has persisted for several days. Tools like getuniversal.link and yURL show that the CDN works fine in U.S. regions, but in Europe it continues serving the old timeout response. I’ve already opened a support ticket (Case ID: 102734912696), but the current support channel seems to be general developer account assistance rather than technical. They claim they can only assist us with account related issues (even though I used the code-support form...) I have a question regarding CarKeyErrorCode in the CarKey framework. I plan to use the following methods in the CarKey framework: CarKeyRemoteControl.start CarKeyRemoteControlSession.vehicleReports CarKeyRemoteControlSession.perform RemoteKeylessEntryAction.ExecutionRequest.results Each of the above methods throws an Error. Are these different from CarKeyErrorCode? Is CarKeyErrorCode only used in CarKeyRemoteControlSessionDelegate.remoteControlSession(_:didInvalidateWithError:)? If methods 1-4 do not return CarKeyErrorCode, what kind of Error do they return? Thank you in advance.

I see many anti-theft apps already released in the App Store that have a feature to immediately play a loud sound when the charger gets unplugged. I can't find an API to make it work if the app is backgrounded, which is the main point. How can I achieve this?

I am wanting to not only surface my content in the system-level Spotlight search results but also to utilize the same index for my in-app search screen. The very few examples or tutorials I could find all craft a CSSearchQuery string using just the "title" attribute. I can't figure out where to look to understand how to search across other attributes. My most pressing need is to be able to perform a CSSearchQuery looking for a search term in the .htmlContentData attribute. If I search for this term in the system search field it returns results, so I know it's being indexed. However when I use a search query (in my app) like htmlContentData == "someSearchTerm" I get zero results. This frustration has led to some more general questions like: How do you know what attribute names are available to use in the search query? Is it just a string literal that's exactly the same as the CSSearchableItemAttributeSet property in Swift? e.g. property .htmlContentData is referred to as "htmlContentData" in the query string? Also, is there any way to just search across all attributes with CSSearchQuery? Obviously using the system Spotlight search (from Home Screen) you don't have to specify if you're searching the title or htmlContentData, it just finds it in either. Yet for CSSearchQuery I have to know up-front which fields I want to look in?
