Official One-Click Local LLM Deployment for 2019 Mac Pro (7,1) Dual W6900X
I am a professional user of the 2019 Mac Pro (7,1) with dual AMD Radeon Pro W6900X MPX modules (32GB VRAM each). This hardware is designed for high-performance compute, but it is currently crippled for modern local LLM/AI workloads under Linux due to Apple's EFI/PCIe routing restrictions. Core Issue: rocminfo reports "No HIP GPUs available" when attempting to use ROCm/amdgpu on Linux Apple's custom EFI firmware blocks full initialization of professional GPU compute assets The dual W6900X GPUs have 64GB combined VRAM and high-bandwidth Infinity Fabric Link, but cannot be fully utilized for local AI inference/training My Specific Request: Apple should provide an official, one-click deployable application that enables full utilization of dual W6900X GPUs for local large language model (LLM) inference and training under Linux. This application must: Fully initialize both W6900X GPUs via HIP/ROCm, establishing valid compute contexts Bypass artificial EFI/PCIe routing restrictions that block access to professional GPU resources Provide a stable, user-friendly one-click deployment experience (similar to NVIDIA's AI Enterprise or AMD's ROCm Hub) Why This Matters: The 2019 Mac Pro is Apple's flagship professional workstation, marketed for compute-intensive workloads. Its high-cost W6900X GPUs should not be locked down for modern AI/LLM use cases. An official one-click deployment solution would demonstrate Apple's commitment to professional AI and unlock significant value for professional users. I look forward to Apple's response and a clear roadmap for enabling this critical capability. #MacPro #Linux #ROCm #LocalLLM #W6900X #CoreML

"Conduct marketing and request technological support."
A few months ago, I had the opportunity to receive a 2018 iMac, and I’ve been using it to create content for my social media. I was truly impressed by the power of its processors. Even with this older model, I’ve been able to grow my presence online—something I couldn’t achieve with newer computers from other brands that I previously purchased. I would love to become a promoter of your brand in the gaming world. All I ask for is technological support with more recent equipment and a minimal payment for collaborating with you. I am genuinely interested in being part of your company and leveraging the potential and reputation of Apple to reach even greater heights.

Deferred Rendering Supported?
Using Unreal Engine 5.4 for Apple Vision Pro. Creating a fully immersive VR Experience. When deploying a VR Application, can you use deferred rendering for the Apple Vision Pro? Or do you need to use forward shading, like for mobile devices? My goal would be to use deferred rendering, because of the much better shader options and quality. And I hope that the Apple Vision Pro with the integrated CPU and GPU could handle deferred rendering, that like a MacBook or a powerful Gaming PC, Workstation. I couldn't find any information on that. Have been mainly developing VR Applications for Quest, but would love to create apps for the Apple Vision Pro. But I would need to know if defered rendering will work when deploying VR Apps from the Unreal Engine to the Apple Vision Pro system. Thanks a lot for any more information on that topic, appreciate it! all the best, Bernhard

M1 Ultra server not running ObjectCapture dramatically faster
I got an Apple Studio (M1 Ultra chip) with hopes that it would dramatically cut down on the ObjectCapture rendering. I am using a benchmark to compare same rendering process on M1 Ultra and an M2 Pro. The times are the same almost to the second. (btw, the render quality lately is getting better and better and it's amazing, thanks for work) For speed/performance, I am wondering - with a 10 core processor and all of the extra resources on Studio/M1 Ultra - should I be modifying my code to make use of all 10 cores? And/or is there a config setting or something? GPUs? Could 'external graphics processor' be part of the solution? I'm not a seasoned Apple developer, so my apologies if this has obvious answer...

M1 intrinsics
How do I make best use of the NEON operations for the M1 processor in my C code project in Xcode? Do I need to add the Arm Performance Libraries, or is this handled automatically - or is there a third alternative? Where can I find an overview of the available intrinsics? Thanks

MacOS with external GPU for machine learning
Greetings! I have a MacBook Pro (2018) running macOS Monterey and was wondering if it could be repurposed for machine learning work. I have a Razer Core X, which would enable me to use AMD Radeon 6900 XT as a eGPU supported configuration. Before doing any shopping, my question is whether the usage of TensorFlow is feasible with this setup. I am aware of tensorflow-metal, but if I understand correctly, only natively supported Mac GPUs can be used with it (not eGPUs)? PlaidML is also an option, but it still not clear which external GPUs are supported. Any guidance on this topic will be appreciated.

what you see is what you get in AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer
I created AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer to get the video stream, videoGravity = AVLayerVideoGravityResizeAspectFill. But in the method - (void)captureOutput:(AVCaptureOutput *)output didOutputSampleBuffer:(CMSampleBufferRef)sampleBuffer fromConnection:(AVCaptureConnection *)connection returns. I found that the actual conversion into UIImage is not what the user sees in AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer, it is much more than what the user sees in AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer, how can I get the sampleBuffer that the user sees in AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer

A missed opportunity!
Hello, all.  I’m not a software engineer, and I've never been on this forum before. I wasn't at all sure about selecting a 'tag', and am not certain I chose an appropriate one. But, I have a thought that I'm hoping one of you might consider acting upon.  I design and build vacuum tube guitar amplifiers.  That means I must draw schematics of my designs.  There is software out there that designers use to create them on computers, and I've tried to use it, but can't understand how to do so, and there's just no one nearby to teach me.  So, I've taken to drawing them mostly by hand, scanning that drawing and then completing it using my Mac’s Emoji & Symbols menu.  Mostly, I use Preview to enter text onto the drawings.  But, lately, I’ve come to learn that I can actually create some basic electronics symbols, like that for a diode, or a resistor, by combining certain of those characters.  Trouble is, it can take 5 to 10 minutes to create the symbol for a resistor that way!   But, Apple has hidden potential here.  If the most common electronic symbols were added to the Emoji & Symbol drop down, one could draw most of a schematic in little time using Preview.  Even better would be the addition of  a special horizontal line to the library.  There’s already a few there, but most of them are difficult to use to make a long line in a drawing, as if typed in succession, there’s a gap between the lines.  And, if you try to make them linger by increasing the font size, they also get fatter!  But, I did find one that ,when typed in succession, does so without a break between the 2 lines, making a continuous horizontal line as long as one continues to enter that symbol.  If all the horizontal lines offered worked that way, one wouldn’t need to search for the one that does.  If a user needs a space between 2 of them, the space bar will suffice, eh? Also, if a vertical line were added to the library, wherein those lines could be connected by simply typing one, & then hit ‘enter’ before typing the next one, and doing so would cause them to connect as one continuous line, then the vertical circuit traces could be made in Preview, as well.   In other words, I could draw maybe 90 to 95 percent of my schematics in very little time using Preview.  And, the Emoji & Symbols menu, especially when used with Preview, has great potential that’s being wasted.  It could have many more uses, were it modified such that people can add new symbols to it.  A master file of symbols for all kinds of uses could be made available for selective additions to the Emoji & Symbols drop down on one’s Mac.  A library of them needs to be created, and a way to add them to the menu pointed out.  Thanks for listening!

GPU is too weak on Macbook Pro M1 for gaming
Hello, After several tests on Warcraft 3 (custom games), it clearly appears that the performance of the GPU is 60% worse than a player on a PC config with a basic video card. I reinstalled Rosetta2 but nothing happened. I had better results with my old Macbook pro equipped with an intel chip and an ATI Radeon video card before (with the version of the game at the time). If the performance per MWatt consumed of the current GPU is good, the overall performance is quite disappointing for FPS games. I sincerely hope that you will think of developing faster GPU-level Macbook pros Mx. Otherwise to be able to connect a video card externally.

Programatically read Automatic Graphics Switching preference?
Customers of an app I work on are having some issues on MacBook Pros with external monitors, which don't occur if the Automatic Graphics Switching is turned off. This is on more recent OS versions (Big Sur, Monterey). Is there a reliable way to check programmatically if this preference setting is turned on, so the app could at least alert the user? I've looked at the com.apple.PowerManagement files in /Library/Preferences, however I don't see any key-values in those files changing when I change this setting (tried rebooting system after changing etc.). Online I've seen some reference to use of the pmset command-line tool to check this however I also do not see its output reflecting any change, and I see conflicting notes on what field might correspond to this setting. Is there any definitive answer or documentation around this setting? Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to play Fisheye VR180 video directly?
Hi I know it's possible to play equirectangular VR180 video either SBS or MV-HEVC. And for fisheye video, the only way I know is to convert it into an AIVU for playback. Is there any way to directly play fisheye video using AVPlayer? Thanks a lot!
