We're embedding the Power BI reports into our portal by using JS library. While testing them, we found that mobile layout of the reports don't work as we expect on iOS devices (tested in Chrome and Safari). There are two principals issues: 1) the site is automatically refreshed when the users filter the data (we reduced them to lower expression) and 2) the site also crashes after a while using the dashboard by applying different filters.

It seems that in iOS 18.5+ built with Xcode 16.4+, there has been a breaking change since 18.4 with 16.3 within WebKit and how the navigationAction.sourceFrame property is initialized when implementing the decidePolicy delegate method.
The flow goes:
Implement a WKNavigationActionDelegate with decidePolicy
Call WKWebView.loadHTMLString("some-string", baseURL: nil)
Upon loading the HTML content, read the value of navigationAction.sourceFrame within the decidePolicy method of the WKNavigationActionDelegate
On iOS 18.4 (and below) with Xcode 16.3 (and below);
navigationAction.sourceFrame is <uninitialized>
On iOS 18.5+ with Xcode 16.4+:
navigationAction.sourceFrame is already initialized and is equal to navigationAction.targetFrame
It appears that this change was made between minor versions of Xcode and is unexpected behavior of a minor version. Not only was this not called out in the release notes for Xcode 16.4 and iOS 18.5, but it's technically also a breaking change to the WebKit API.
Can we get insight on why this change was made and what Apple's policy is on breaking changes between minor versions of Xcode/iOS?
Hi all,
I need to detect if my web application (pure HTML / Javascript) is opened from:
Safari from a Mac
Safari from an iPad but by asking for the desktop version
I tried to check for many properties (including the navigator.useragent) but no difference were visible. Anyone could help me?
Thank you

Hello Apple Developer Team,
I would love to see iCloud Keychain Autofill and Touch ID support extended to Chromium-based browsers on macOS (such as Ecosia, Brave, or Vivaldi).
Currently, Safari allows autofill of passwords using Touch ID, but when using other browsers, I have to manually copy-paste credentials from Keychain Access, which is time-consuming.
Would it be possible for Apple to provide an API or framework that allows non-WebKit browsers to integrate iCloud Keychain autofill while keeping security intact?
This feature would make macOS more convenient for users who prefer alternative browsers while keeping security standards high.
Thanks in advance for considering this!
Best regards, Kilian
Hi everyone,
We're building a web application using Next.js that captures around 40 images across different routes as part of a guided user flow.
At the beginning of the process, we explicitly request camera permission using navigator.mediaDevices.getUserMedia(...), and the user grants it successfully.
However, as users proceed through the flow (navigating between routes), Safari on iOS intermittently re-prompts for camera access—despite the initial permission already being granted and the origin (domain) remaining unchanged.
This repeated prompting interrupts the user experience significantly.
What we’ve tried:
Ensuring camera access is requested only once and reused where possible.
Using persistent media stream across routes (where feasible).
Testing across different iOS versions to confirm consistency.
Questions:
Is there a known workaround or best practice to persist camera access across route transitions in a SPA/PWA context on iOS?
Are there any Safari-specific behaviors or restrictions related to WebRTC / getUserMedia we should be aware of?
Would embedding the camera view in an iframe or maintaining a persistent component help avoid re-prompting?
Any guidance or shared experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, I would like to share a finding and ask for a solution, if possible. This may be a potential bug with PointerMoveEvent on Safari on an iPad with Pencil Pro.
I tested onPointerMove and onTouchMove in a <canvas> element in a React web app for freehand drawing using
Mouse on a PC.
Finger touch on iPad
Apple pencil pro on iPad
Finger touch on iPhone
I was able to draw smooth curves in all cases except when using onPointerMove with Apple pencil pro on iPad. The curve drawn in this case looked like it was created using several straight-line segments.
It seems like the sampling rate for PointerMoveEvent is lower than that of TouchMoveEvent on Safari
I am not sure how to solve this problem or if it is an issue with Safari's interpretation of PointerEvents. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Edit: It seems like https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/689375
is related.
Hey team, I've integrated custom WkWebsiteDatastore to manage profiling for different sessions.
upon testing the WkWebsiteDataStore as its mentioned to be persistent But
The storage can be accessed via identifier, But the session data in storage is absent, such as cookies caches all are cleared when app is relaunched
is it the default behavior to be expected or there is some property missing causing the session data to be removed from storage.
Hi,
I have implement a WebRtc cameras server:
IP camera -> ffmpeg -> WebRtc -> browser
The video codec used is H264.
I test it on a MAC mini using safari browser (latest version)
The Rtc peer connection is correctly connect but the video is not display.
looking for the event on the video control, I got this:
loadstart
progress
suspend
On the MAC, I have also a chrome browser installed and trying the same, it works fine, I got this:
loadstart
progress
loadmetadata
loadeddata
canplay
canplaythrough
playing
the video control on the html page is declared like this:
Does anyone have an idea why the video stay suspend or have a clue or tips to make it work?
Thanks in advance

In my application, I use HTML pages to display the interface. Since it’s a cross-platform app, the pages and interactions work properly on other platforms. However, in WebKit, because HTTPS protocol is used, JS requests from the page cannot use the ws protocol but must use the wss protocol under HTTPS. Is there any way to allow a webpage under HTTPS to use ws requests normally? Google Chrome can do this.

When a tab goes to sleep, all its resources gets killed. When the user has any interaction it gets active again. However, if there is an audio in the tab, it does not play again even after user interaction. One has to reload/reopen the tab.
Is this how it should work?
Is there a fix for this?
Anybody succeeded sending a Web Push Message using the new Declarative approach introduced with Safari Version 18.4 (20621.1.14.11.3)?
I will help as well if someone can point me to a solution debugging the entire system using Xcode and Minibrowser? Currently I can't get the MiniBrowser connected to the WebPush Daemon.
On iOS (iPhone or iPad) the following behaviour happens:
when both an HTML video element and an HTML audio element are playing on a page,
and the video source ends,
and the video source is programmatically forced to play again
then the system will automatically pause the audio.
See following stackblitz project for a sample:
https://stackblitz.com/edit/ios-audio-paused-on-video-playing?file=README.md
Steps to reproduce
Feel free to try with both another audio and video source, here limited by the available space in Stackblitz plan.
On an iPhone/iPad device or simulator, in Safari:
browse to index.html
when on iPhone, press iPhone Load to force preloading video. Not needed on iPad
press Play to start playing both audio and video
wait until clip ends and then restarts from 0:00
Expected
Audio should keep on playing and eventually loop.
Actual
When clip restarts from 0, audio is put to pause by the system.
Further details
This does not happen e.g. on Mac Safari nor on another device/browser.
Also, some alternative scenarios:
when HTML video element has the muted attribute, the issue disappears and audio is not paused
when HTML audio element is replace with Web Audio API, the issue disappears and audio is not paused
Hi!
I'm working on a web extension for Safari and I need to send messages from the containing application to JavaScript. For this I use the method
class func dispatchMessage(
withName messageName: String,
toExtensionWithIdentifier identifier: String,
userInfo: [String : Any]? = nil
) async throws
of the SFSafariApplication class. If the site is opened in Safari in normal mode, everything works as expected. However, if the site is "docked", the messages are not transmitted to this "Web App".
Hi everyone,
I'm facing an issue with accessing device orientation and motion events in Safari on my iPhone (iOS 18). Despite trying several guides and solutions, I cannot find the option to allow access to motion and orientation for websites in the browser settings. I’ve checked privacy settings, and the device is up to date. Can anyone guide me on how to enable this feature in Safari or share any workarounds? Thanks in advance!
When i use adjust redirect:
https://app.adjust.com/xxxxxx?label=xxxxxx&redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.testingmcafeesites.com%2Ftestcat_bu.html
It open 2 links:
https://Fwww.testingmcafeesites.com
then http://www.testingmcafeesites.com/testcat_bu.html
And in my app use redirect link for open a web page. But content in domain url like https://www.testingmcafeesites.com/ not be set. So it talke long time often 1 minute for finish request in first link.
It hapen only in ios 18 i tested in ios 17 and ios 16 it open one link only.
Hi there,
I use the Clipboard API to create formatted project links with a "copy link" button. This has been really versatile for end users. When they paste into their email, they get a hyperlinked project name that leads to the project, and when they paste into the URL bar, they just get the project URL.
It used to be that pasting into Messages on Mac would yield the same behavior as pasting into the URL bar. But recently, Messages started only pasting the inner text of the HTML clipboard, so no URL, just the project name, which isn’t very useful for a copy link function.
Is there any way to ensure that Messages pastes the URL while maintaining my formatting options on other surfaces?
Apple Pay fails with an "AbortError" when the dialog for the fingerprint sensor opens.
How do I find the cause of the "AbortError" which only occurs in the web integration in our production environment?
In the sandbox environment, Apple Pay works flawlessly. This concerns a web integration of Apple Pay using the Apple Pay SDK, one version before 1.2.0. The error occurs when I call the show() method on the PaymentRequest object. The Apple Pay dialog opens with the fingerprint icon, but after one second, an exclamation mark appears, and the Apple Pay dialog closes again while throwing the "AbortError".
I know that our Apple Pay integration worked for multiple customers in the production environment already. The current problem is that Apple's error message, called "AbortError," provides no indication of the cause. This could be greatly improved.
One affected customer, for example, is the one with the Merchant ID … (Is it safe to post a Merchant ID in this forum?) I can reproduce the "AbortError" issue at any time using my iPhone with iOS 16.7.8.
MacOS: 12 ( Monterrey )
Safari: 17.6
Demo Site: https://applepaydemo.apple.com/
At the bottom where the Apple Pay button should appear, I see a warning something like "This browser doesn't support Apple Pay, please use safari" along with a link to requirements for apple pay.
All the requirements are fulfilled, OS and Safari's version are above the minimum required.
Link was opened in Safari.
And the other thing is if I open the same site in Chrome, I can see the apple pay button and when I click on it a QR appears which is the expected behaviour.
How to resolve this?
Need to connect HTTPS proxy (encrypt all data). If it is possible from iPhone or iPad through phone settings or special app?
