Feedback/issues for SwiftData custom store
Hello, thank you Apple for supporting custom store with SwiftData and the Schema type is superb to work with. I have successfully set one up with SQL and have some feedback and issues regarding its APIs. There’s a highlighted message in the documentation about not using internal restricted symbols directly, but they contradict with the given protocols and I am concerned about breaking any App Store rules. Are we allowed to use these? If not, they should be opened up as they’re useful. BackingData is required to set up custom snapshots, initialization, and getting/setting values. And I want to use it with createBackingData() to directly initialize instances from snapshots when transferring them between server and client or concurrency. RelationshipCollection for casting to-many relationships from backing data or checking if an array contains a PersistentModel. SchemaProperty for type erasure in a collection. Schema.Relationship has KeyPath properties, but it is missing for Schema.Attribute and Schema.CompositeAttribute. Which means you can’t purely depend on the schema to map data. I am unable to access the properties of a custom struct type in a predicate unless I use Mirror with schemaMetadata() or CustomStringConvertible on the KeyPath directly to extract it. Trivial, but… the KeyPath property name is inconsistent (it’s all lowercase). It would be nice to retrieve property names from custom struct types, since you are unable access CodingKeys that are auto synthesized by Codable for structs. But I recently realized they’re a part Schema.CompositeAttribute, however I don’t know how to match these without the KeyPath… I currently map my entities using CodingKeys to their PredicateCodableKeyPathProviding.… but I wish for a simpler alternative! It’s unclear how to provide the schema to the snapshot before new models are created. I currently use a static property, but I want to make it flexible if more schemas and configurations are added later on. I considered saving and loading the schema in a temporary location, but doubtful that the KeyPath values will be available as they are not Codable. I suspect schemaMetadata() has the information I need to map the backing data without a schema for snapshots, but as mentioned previously, properties are inaccessible… Allow access to entity metatypes, like value types from SchemaProperty. They’re useful for getting data out of snapshots and casting them to CodingKeys and PredicateCodableKeyPathProviding. They do not carry over when you provide them in the Schema. I am unable to retrieve the primary key from PersistentIdentifier. It seems like once you create one, you can’t get it out, like the DataStoreConfiguration in ModelContainer is not the one you used to set it up. I cannot cast it, it is an entirely different struct? I have to use JSONSerialization to extract it, but I want to get it directly since it is not a column in my database. It is transformed when it goes to/from my tables. It’s unknown how to support some schema options, such as Spotlight and CloudKit. Allow for extending macro options, such as adding options to set as primary key, whether to auto increment, etc… You can create a schema for super and sub entities, but it doesn’t appear you can actually set them up from the @Model macro or use inheritance on these models… SwiftData history tracking seems incomplete for HistoryDelete, because that protocol requires HistoryTombstone, but this type cannot be instantiated, nor does it contain anything useful to infer from. As an aside, I want to create my own custom ModelActor that is a global actor. However, I’m unable to replicate the executor that Apple provides where the executor has a ModelContext, because this type does not conform to Sendable. So how did Apple do this? The documentation doesn’t mention unchecked Sendable, but I figure if the protocol is available then we would be able to set up our own. And please add concurrency features! Anyway, I hope for more continued support in the future and I am looking forward to what’s new this WWDC! 😊

What *is* the 12 hour energy impact?
Clearly not percentage, but the units don't seem to be specified... The real problem we have right now is that, with macOS 15.5, our suite gets a huge amount of "energy impact" points, even though diving into it, it doesn't seem to do that. The most telling example I have of that is: I ran each of our daemons from Terminal, unplugged my laptop, closed the lid, and let it stay there for 8 or 9 hours. When I woke it back up, Activity Monitor claimed it had 2,000 units or so, but after opening all of the disclosure triangles, none of the processes (including the hand-started daemons) used anything close to that. Also, the battery had almost no drain on it. We're getting complaints about this, so I'm trying to figure out what, exactly is going on, but I never looked at the power stuff internally so I don't know how to read the diagnostic files.

Confused by what is allowed for System Level Apple Watch Bluetooth Connection. Does it require MFi or are there only some BLE chips allowed?
Hello. I am building a BLE device that is Activity Fitness based and would like a "System Level" BLE connection on WatchOS using an ESP32 (I have built a test of this on the firmware side). Meaning I do not want my iOS app to pass the BLE connection to the WatchOS app. It seems like these App Level connections do not get as many background updates as a System Level connection, and also requires the WatchOS app to be launched to connect to the BLE device The System Level BLE connection (WatchOS Settings > BLE > Health Devices) allows for auto connection in the background, and gets more reliable background communication between the BLE device and the Apple Watch On the Apple MFi Page it only mentions iOS: From Apple MFi Page: :: Who does NOT need to join - Developers and manufacturers of accessories that connect to an Apple device using only Bluetooth Low Energy, Core Bluetooth, or standard Bluetooth profiles supported by iOS Does this apply to WatchOS as well? So, if I am making an BLE device that is Activity Based, and has one of the allowable Health Device UUIDs, is the BLE System Connection allowed using any BLE chip? Including say an ESP32 I have built a test BLE firmware that is a Health Device UUID, and the WatchOS sees it as a health device Is this fine then? No need for MFi application and also no need to worry about which BLE chip is used? thanks

Filtered dataFrame displays original dataFrame values
I'm importing a csv file of 299 rows and creating a subset by filtering on one column value (24 rows). I want to Chart just the filtered values. However, when I print one column I get values from the original dataFrame. Any suggestions? Thanks, David The code: import SwiftUI import Charts import TabularData struct DataPoint: Identifiable { var id = UUID() // This makes it conform to Identifiable var date: Date var value: Double } struct ContentView: View { @State private var dataPoints: [DataPoint] = [] var body: some View { Text("Hello") Chart { ForEach(dataPoints) { dataPoint in PointMark( x: .value("Date", dataPoint.date), y: .value("Value", dataPoint.value) ) } } .frame(height: 300) .padding() .onAppear(perform: loadData) } func loadData() { print("In Loading Data") // Load the CSV file if let url = Bundle.main.url(forResource: "observations", withExtension: "csv") { do { let options = CSVReadingOptions(hasHeaderRow: true, delimiter: ",") var data0 = try DataFrame(contentsOfCSVFile: url, options: options) let formattingOptions = FormattingOptions( maximumLineWidth: 200, maximumCellWidth: 15, maximumRowCount: 30 ) // print(data0.description(options: formattingOptions)) print("Number of Columns: \(data0.columns.count)") let columnsSet = ["plant_id", "date", "plot", "plantNumber", "plantCount"] data0 = try DataFrame(contentsOfCSVFile:url, columns: columnsSet, options: options) print("Number of Columns (after columnsSet): \(data0.columns.count)") print("Printing data0") print(data0.description(options: formattingOptions)) let data = data0.filter { $0["plant_id"] as? Failed to get productIdentifier from StoreKit
I am currently developing an auto-renewal subscription in-app purchase for my app. Currently, the subscription items have already been approved in appStoreConnect, and the .store file is synced with appStoreConnect, so the subscription items are displayed well and the test is also progressing well. However, when I build without using the .store file to perform sandbox testing, the subscription items do not appear and response.invalidProductIdentifiers appears. Is there anything I need to do additionally so that the subscription items can appear in response.products? ps. The bank account item in the contract is in 'processing' status, and the paid app contract status is 'waiting for user information'.

Presenter Overlay Not Showing When Recording a Single Window or Region with ScreenCaptureKit
Hi, I'm using ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 14+ to record a single window. I've noticed that the Presenter Overlay only appears when capturing the entire screen, but it does not appear when recording a specific window or a region. Is there a way to enable the Presenter Overlay while recording a single window or a defined region, similar to how it works with full-screen capture? Any guidance or clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Network connectivity issue observed on OS 15.4.1
Recently, we have observed that after upgrading to OS 15.4.1, some devices are experiencing network issues. We are using a Network Extension with a transparent app proxy in our product. The user encounters this issue while using our client, but the issue persists even after stopping the client app. This appears to be an OS issue. Below is the sytem logs. In the system logs, it says [C669.1 Hostname#546597df:443 failed transform (unsatisfied (No network route), flow divert agg: 2)] event: transform:children_failed @0.001s In scutil --dns, it says not reachble. How to mount custom FSKit-based file system in Finder?
Hi, I'm working with the new FSKit framework and have successfully implemented a custom file system using FSUnaryFileSystem. Mounting the file system via Terminal works perfectly — I can create, delete, and browse files and directories as expected. Since /Volumes is protected on modern macOS systems, I cannot mount my file system there directly. Instead, I mount it into a different writable directory (e.g., /tmp/MyFS) and then create a symbolic link to it in a user-visible location such as ~/Downloads/MyFS. Finder does see the symlink and displays it with a "Volume" icon, but clicking it results in an error — it cannot be opened. It seems like Finder does not treat the symlinked mount as a fully functional volume. Is there a proper way to register or announce a FSKit-mounted file system so that Finder lists it as a real volume and allows access to it? Are there additional steps (APIs, notifications, entitlements, or Info.plist keys) required to integrate with Finder? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How to create an intent that Apple Maps knows about?
I asked a question similar to this earlier, but I think this is probably the better question. I have a food-ordering app. When the user wants to pick up food, I'd like for Apple Maps to automatically display the location of the restaurant that the user is driving to. Calendar does something similar. If there is an event that is soon, the location in the calendar-event shows up in Apple Maps. I'd like to do the same thing. So, when the user makes an order, they'll need to drive to the location fairly quickly. So, I'd like to launch Apple Maps, see the location of the restaurant where I'm picking up food, and then get directions to it. Bonus points if this also works when I have CarPlay.

How to provide a driving destination to CarPlay, like Calendar
If I have, say a doctor appointment in the Calendar app, and I'm leaving to go to it, the address will appear in Apple Maps on CarPlay. Forgive if I'm getting the details wrong, but I believe if I bring up the Map, it will be available to tap on, so I can quickly go there. I think it may also show up on one on the car-play screens that shows a few different panels. The point is, I really like this feature, and want to do it in my app. In my iOS app, the user can order food from a restaurant, and pick it up. I'm not ready to make this app a "quick service" app, but I want to give the user an easy to get to her location. Since I just ordered food, this means that I'll need to leave fairly quickly to go to the location. The Calendar app is able to offer a location because of scheduling, I'd like to do the same.

Live Caller ID Lookup Implementation
Hello I'm working on Live Caller ID Lookup implementation on my own pet-project, as I understood I need to create app and extension for this app. I also created test PIR-service. I did configure serviceURL, tokenIssuerURL and userTierToken. In My app I implemented following code Task { if LiveCallerIDLookupManager.shared.status(forExtensionWithIdentifier: "some-extension") == .disabled { `//` Show an alert. print("LiveCallerIDLookupManager is disabled") } do { // Open Settings. try await LiveCallerIDLookupManager.shared.openSettings() } catch { } It does open Call settings, but I don't understand what should I do next.

iOS 18 + MDM + DSCP 46 getting failed
We have a iOS VoIP application which is deployed via MDM solution. Until iOS 17.7.1 everything is working fine. The calls stopped working from iOS 18 onwards. When we investigated the issue, the api setsockopt is returning (54) Connection reset by peer. We believe there might be some issue in iOS 18 because there is a test done with same MDM solution + same server + same iOS VoIP application where this issue is not seen. Kindly help and let us know if any more details are required from us.

NEFilterManager saveToPreferences fails with "permission denied" on TestFlight build
I'm working on enabling a content filter in my iOS app using NEFilterManager and NEFilterProviderConfiguration. The setup works perfectly in debug builds when running via Xcode, but fails on TestFlight builds with the following error: **Failed to save filter settings: permission denied ** **Here is my current implementation: ** (void)startContentFilter { NSUserDefaults *userDefaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [userDefaults synchronize]; [[NEFilterManager sharedManager] loadFromPreferencesWithCompletionHandler:^(NSError * _Nullable error) { dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{ if (error) { NSLog(@"Failed to load filter: %@", error.localizedDescription); [self showAlertWithTitle:@"Error" message:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Failed to load content filter: %@", error.localizedDescription]]; return; } NEFilterProviderConfiguration *filterConfig = [[NEFilterProviderConfiguration alloc] init]; filterConfig.filterSockets = YES; filterConfig.filterBrowsers = YES; NEFilterManager *manager = [NEFilterManager sharedManager]; manager.providerConfiguration = filterConfig; manager.enabled = YES; [manager saveToPreferencesWithCompletionHandler:^(NSError * _Nullable error) { dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{ if (error) { NSLog(@"Failed to save filter settings: %@", error.localizedDescription); [self showAlertWithTitle:@"Error" message:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Failed to save filter settings: %@", error.localizedDescription]]; } else { NSLog(@"Content filter enabled successfully!"); [self showAlertWithTitle:@"Success" message:@"Content filter enabled successfully!"]; } }); }]; }); }]; } **What I've tried: ** Ensured the com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension entitlement is set in both the app and system extension. The Network extension target includes content-filter-provider. Tested only on physical devices. App works in development build, but not from TestFlight. **My questions: ** Why does saveToPreferencesWithCompletionHandler fail with “permission denied” on TestFlight? Are there special entitlements required for using NEFilterManager in production/TestFlight builds? Is MDM (Mobile Device Management) required to deploy apps using content filters? Has anyone successfully implemented NEFilterProviderConfiguration in production, and if so, how?

Speech recognition
Hello, I’ve followed all the steps you recommended and confirmed that the entitlement is correctly added in Xcode, but the provisioning profile still fails. I believe the issue is that my App ID com.echo.eyes.app is missing the com.apple.developer.speech-recognition entitlement on Apple’s end. Could you please manually add this entitlement to my App ID, or guide me on how to get it attached? I’ve already added it locally and confirmed the error in Xcode is due to it not being in the provisioning profile. .

NEFilterDataProvider + NEFilterControlProvider not catching in-app requests
Goal : Block all outbound connections to a static list of hosts (both In-app requests and WKWebView/Safari). App & both extensions have Network Extension entitlement with content-filter-provider and filter-control-provider What’s working: Safari and WKWebView requests matching the block list are dropped. What’s broken: In-app traffic never reaches the Data Provider—those requests always succeed. Setup: • NEFilterProviderConfiguration with both Data & Control providers, filterBrowsers = true, filterSockets = true • Data Provider implements handleNewFlow for socket/browser flows • Control Provider implements handleNewFlow for browser flows • Enabled via saveToPreferences() and toggled ON in Settings

AdHoc IPA: "permission denied" when installing DNS Proxy NetworkExtension (all entitlements and profiles seem correct)
Hi all! I’m having trouble distributing an iOS app with a DNS Proxy NetworkExtension via AdHoc. The app and extension work perfectly with development profiles, but when I export and install the AdHoc IPA, I get a “permission denied” error when trying to install/enable the DNS Proxy extension. What I’ve done: Both the app and the DNS Proxy extension have their own App IDs in the Apple Developer portal. Both App IDs have the same App Group enabled: group.com.irakai.SafeLinkApp2. The extension App ID has the NetworkExtension capability with dns-proxy enabled. I created two AdHoc provisioning profiles (one for the app, one for the extension), both including the same devices and the correct entitlements. I assigned the correct AdHoc profiles to each target in Xcode and exported the IPA via Organizer. I install the IPA on a registered device using Apple Configurator. Entitlements (extracted from the signed binaries on device): App: <key>application-identifier</key><string>6PBG234246.com.irakai.SafeLinkApp2</string> <key>com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension</key><array> <string>packet-tunnel-provider</string> <string>dns-proxy</string> </array> <key>com.apple.developer.team-identifier</key><string>6PBG234246</string> <key>com.apple.security.application-groups</key><array> <string>group.com.irakai.SafeLinkApp2</string> </array> <key>get-task-allow</key><false/> DNSProxy Extension: <key>application-identifier</key><string>6PBG234246.com.irakai.SafeLinkApp2.DNSProxy</string> <key>com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension</key><array> <string>dns-proxy</string> </array> <key>com.apple.developer.team-identifier</key><string>6PBG234246</string> <key>com.apple.security.application-groups</key><array> <string>group.com.irakai.SafeLinkApp2</string> </array> <key>get-task-allow</key><false/> Error message (from my app’s logs): Error instalando DNS Proxy: permission denied Usuario: Roberto AppGroup: group.com.irakai.SafeLinkApp2 AppGroupPath: /private/var/mobile/Containers/Shared/AppGroup/D8AD2DED-AD96-4915-9B7A-648C9504679B Entitlements: BundleId: com.irakai.SafeLinkApp2 Debug info: Error Domain=NEDNSProxyErrorDomain Code=1 "permission denied" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=permission denied} Other details: The device is included in both AdHoc profiles. The App Group is present and identical in both entitlements. The extension’s bundle identifier matches the App ID in the portal. The extension is signed with the correct AdHoc profile. I have tried rebooting the device and reinstalling the IPA. The error only occurs with AdHoc; development builds work fine. Questions: Is there anything else I should check regarding AdHoc provisioning for NetworkExtension DNS Proxy? Are there any known issues with AdHoc and NetworkExtension on recent iOS versions? Is there a way to get more detailed diagnostics from the system about why the permission is denied? Could this be a bug in iOS, or am I missing a subtle configuration step? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Launch Daemon wait for external disk to mount
I've searched around the internet and could not find a clear answer. I have a swift command line tool that needs to run automatically when the Mac mini M4 is started up without a user login and continue running forever. However, the command line tool and the data it uses are located on an external disk due to the size of the data. The service specified by a launchd plist located in /Library/LaunchDaemons tries to start up but fails because it cannot immediately find the command line tool. Which is because the external disk is not mounted when launchd tries to start the service when the Mac is booting. The service runs fine when bootstrapped after the disk is mounted. The first error is "No such file or directory, error 0x6f - Invalid or missing Program/ProgramArguments" and the service is put in the "penalty box". Is there any way for the service to get out of the "penalty box"? What is the best approach to make the launchd service wait for a specific external disk to mount? Some options for waiting seem to be: Use "WatchPaths" in the launchd plist, but the man page says this is unreliable. This makes one wonder what is the purpose of this option? Use "StartOnMount in the launchd plist", but this will run the command line tool every time any disk is mounted. This is not desired. Of course, I could move the command line tool to the startup disk, but then the tool would fail because the data is not available. This could be remedied by modifying the command line tool to wait for the external disk, but it would be polling, which seems inefficient. I could also add a delay, but that seems error prone because there is no assurance that the delay is long enough. When looking at the system plists, there seem to be a lot of options that are not directly mentioned in the man page for launchd.plist and have little to no documentation that I could find. Maybe there is something I am missing here? In the end, I would just like to make sure the launchd service waits for the specific disk to be available before starting the service. Any ideas how best to do that?

SwiftData crash on fetch
I have a strange crash which I have problems understanding. It only happens on a few devices, after a ModelContainer migration, and it doesn't seem to crash on the migration itself. The fetch is done in onAppear, and shouldn't necessarily result in a crash, as it is an optional try: let request = FetchDescriptor<Rifle>() let data = try? modelContext.fetch(request) if let data, !data.isEmpty { rifle = data.first(where: { $0.uuid.uuidString == settings.selectedRifleId }) ?? data.first! } When I get logs from users, there seems to be an error in encoding?

Kindly help and let us know if any more details are required from us.

https address of a certain page within my app
I need to know the https address of a certain page within my app. This is going to be used as a redirect URL. I don't think it is a good idea to use deep links because it has to be an https address. I don't think Universal Links will work because it is not my website that I will be communicating with.
