We are currently working on a zero-configuration networking compliant device thru avahi-daemon.

I'm developing a security-focused iOS application and would like to detect potentially suspicious rogue access points. Specifically, I need to access the BSSID of the currently connected Wi-Fi network to analyze and identify inconsistencies (e.g. multiple APs using the same SSID).
I understand that access to certain network information is restricted on iOS.
Is it possible to use the Network Extension framework (or any approved API) to retrieve the BSSID?

Hi there, I'm having an issue hoping someone could help. We have an iOS app that uses CoreBluetooth to connect to peripherals using the central manager. The app works great - However, when using the same exact central manager for our watchos app, it will attempt to connect, but I never get a callback for either didConnect or didFailToConnect.
The watch can connect successfully to other BLE devices, so the watch itself is capable of BLE connectivity.
Here's a list of thing's I've tried (unsuccessfully):
1) Added every bluetooth-related entitlement to info.plist

Background Modes: App communicates using CoreBluetooth, App shares data using CoreBluetooth
2) Checked for Single-Connection Limits
Verified that the iPhone was fully disconnected from the peripheral to ensure the device wasn’t limited to one connection.
Attempted to connect on watchOS alone (with iPhone turned off)
3) Tried various options for CBCentralManager, scanForPeripherals, and connect
I went through all the keys for various options and tried just setting them, they had no effect

I get no warnings either. The last time I ran into something like this, I found out the watchOS blocks TCP sockets. If I print out the CBPeripheralState a few seconds after trying to connect, it shows its stuck on CBPeripheralStateConnecting.
Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated

I'm developing a visionOS app that allows users to download large video files (similar to a movie download experience, with each file being around 10 GB). I've successfully implemented the core video download functionality using URLSession, and everything works as expected while the app is active.
Now, I’m looking to support background downloading. Specifically, I want users to be able to start a download and then leave the app (e.g., switch apps or return to the home screen) while the download continues in the background.
Additionally, I’d like to confirm a specific scenario:
If the user starts a download, then removes the headset (keeping the device turned on and connected to power), will the download continue in the background? Or does visionOS suspend the app or downloads in this case?
I’m considering using a background URLSessionConfiguration (as done in iOS/macOS) to enable this behavior, but I’m not sure if it behaves the same way on visionOS or if there are special limitations or best practices when handling large downloads on this platform.

We are a Layer 3 VPN provider offering a comprehensive SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) solution that includes TLS inspection, threat protection, granular access control, and secure access to private resources.
One of the key challenges we face involves TLS inspection. Many mobile applications, especially on iOS, implement certificate pinning, which causes them to fail when TLS inspection is applied. These apps expect connections to be secured with a specific certificate or trusted certificate authority, and inspection disrupts this trust model.
On iOS, the current limitation is that the Packet Tunnel Provider extension does not provide visibility into the originating application (i.e., there is no API to obtain the app’s bundle ID or package name associated with a given network connection). Due to this, we are unable to dynamically determine whether TLS inspection should be bypassed for a particular app.
While Apple’s Per-App VPN is one possible solution, it introduces a significant drawback: any applications that are excluded from the VPN configuration are entirely outside the VPN tunnel. This means they do not benefit from any of our SASE features — including secure access to internal resources, DNS/web content filtering, or threat detection. This limits the effectiveness of our solution in environments where both inspection and secure access are critical.
We would like to understand whether iOS has any current or planned capabilities to associate a network flow (e.g., a 5-tuple: source IP, destination IP, source port, destination port, and protocol) with the originating app. Such a capability would allow us to programmatically identify certificate-pinned apps and selectively disable TLS inspection without excluding them entirely from the VPN, thereby preserving the full set of SASE protections.
Is there any guidance or roadmap update from Apple that addresses this use case?
We’re looking to implement a custom IPSec IKEv2 VPN using the Packet Tunnel Provider network extension on iOS because we need to add extra information to EAP, which the built-in IKEv2 VPN configuration does not support.
Is it possible to handle the full IKEv2 negotiation and IPSec tunneling within the Packet Tunnel Provider extension? Or are there limitations that would prevent implementing a full IKEv2 stack this way?

I’m developing an app designed for hospital environments, where public internet access may not be available. The app includes two components: the main app and a Local Connectivity Extension. Both rely on persistent TCP socket connections to communicate with a local server.
We’re observing a recurring issue where the extension’s socket becomes unresponsive every 1–3 hours, but only when the device is on the lock screen, even if the main app remains in the foreground.
When the screen is not locked, the connection is stable and no disconnections occur.
❗ Issue Details:
• What’s going on: The extension sends a keep-alive ping packet every second, and the server replies with a pong and a system time packet.
• The bug: The server stops receiving keep alive packets from the extension.
• On the server, we detect about 30 second gap on the server, a gap that shows no packets were received by the extension. This was confirmed via server logs and Wireshark).
• On the extension, from our logs there was no gap in sending packets. From it’s perspective, all packets were sent with no error.
• Because no packet are being received by the server, no packets will be sent to the extension. Eventually the server closes the connection due to keep-alive timeout.
• FYI we log when the NEAppPushProvider subclass sleeps and it did NOT go to sleep while we were debugging.

• The extension process continues running and logging keep-alive attempts.
• However, network traffic stops reaching the server, and no inbound packets are received by the extension.
• It looks like the socket becomes silently suspended or frozen, without being properly closed or throwing an error.
❓Questions:
• Do you know why this might happen within a Local Connectivity Extension, especially under foreground conditions and locked ?
• Is there any known system behavior that might cause the socket to be suspended or blocked in this way after running for a few hours?

I am trying to intercept localhost connections within NETransparentProxyProvider system extension. As per NENetworkRule documentation
If the address is a wildcard address (0.0.0.0 or ::) then the rule will match all destinations except for loopback (127.0.0.1 or ::1). To match loopback traffic set the address to the loopback address.
I tried to add

I am developing the packet tunnel extension on a SIP enabled device.
If I build the app and notarize and install it on the device, it works fine.
If I modify, build and execute the App (which contains the system extension), it fails with below error. 102.3.1.4 is production build. And 201.202.0.101 is for XCode build.

The problem has been observed on macOS versions 15.4 and 15.5. Apple has acknowledged this issue and confirmed that it is fixed in the macOS 15.6 beta. Although we tried to reproduce the issue in our environment, it did not occur, even on macOS 15.5. Therefore, we cannot verify if the fix in macOS 15.6 beta resolves the problem.
We are actively working to identify an appropriate workaround for users on macOS 15.5. Some users have reported a failure to obtain an IP address over Wi-Fi, possibly due to a DHCP failure.
As a temporary solution, we added logic to restart Wi-Fi programmatically when either an APIPA address (169.254.x.x) or no IPv4 address is detected on the active interface. However, restarting Wi-Fi does not always resolve the issue, and the device may still fail to obtain an IP address over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Could you advise if there is a reliable method to detect DHCP failure and recover the device from this state? Also, any idea, how we can reproduce this scenario in our machine?

I'm developing an enterprise iOS application and need to access the WiFi connection channel. I understand that Apple's privacy and security policies restrict direct access to certain network details, including the WiFi connection channel.
After some research, I found that this data might be accessible via the private API MobileWiFi.framework. However, when I tried to use this framework, I encountered the following error:
Missing com.apple.wifi.manager-access entitlement
I reached out to Apple regarding this entitlement, but they were not familiar with it, suggesting it might be deprecated.
Here are my questions:
Is there an official or supported way to access the WiFi connection channel in an enterprise iOS app?
If not, is there any workaround or additional steps required to use the MobileWiFi.framework without encountering the entitlement error?
Are there any specific entitlements or provisioning profile configurations that I need to be aware of to resolve this issue?

I am learning about layer 3 VPN implementations for MacOS, and am slowly making my way through docs and tutorials. I noticed that part of creating an instance of NETunnelProviderManager on the app side of the project requires the specification of protocolConfiguration via an instance of NETunnelProviderProtocol. One of the arguments for this class is serverAdress, which to my understanding, tells the OS where to route traffic towards at the end of the day.
My question: many VPNs these days allow the option to specify the location for which you want your traffic to be routed through. I imagine this would necessitate changing this serverAddress field in the backend. However, setting this option (on a commercially available VPN) doesn't typically prompt the OS notification that you get when initially installing a VPN configuration for the first time. How is this functionality achieved? I could see one possible solution being that most VPN providers route through a main service beforehand (so the first IP in the chain never has to change), though I could see this being problematic for a number of other reasons.
Assuming you have a valid NETunnelProviderManager object called manager, is this valid?

Even if it compiles, will the traffic be properly re-routed?
My understanding of the flow right now is that in order to "lock in" a new configuration, or modify it, you need to call manager.saveToPreferences, which triggers the OS notification I mentioned earlier.
I'm running a Node.js server on my MacBook with Apple M4 Pro chip, macOS Sequoia 15.4, and Node.js v23.10.0.
The server starts normally on port 5000 and logs show that it's listening correctly. However, when I try to access it via browser or Postman (http://localhost:5000/api/...), I get a 403 Forbidden error.
After checking with lsof -i :5000, I noticed that the ControlCenter process is listening on port 5000 under the name commplex-main.
Interestingly, this doesn't happen on M3 Pro machines. On those devices, Node.js runs fine on port 5000 and can be accessed from Postman and browsers.
Is port 5000 now internally reserved by macOS or used by some system-level service in Sequoia or Apple Silicon (M4 Pro)?
Should I avoid using this port going forward?
Any official clarification would be appreciated.
