PHFetchOptions: Full List of Supported Predicate Keys
Hi, Could anybody share the full list of supported Predicate keys for the PHFetchOptions? I'm aware of the list that is posted in the documentation: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/photos/phfetchoptions However I have reason to believe that this is not an exhaustive list and there also seem to be mistakes in this doc. i.e. isFavorite does not work but favorite does. Through some experimentation I also found that this works: NSPredicate(format: "adjustmentFormatIdentifier == 'com.pixelmatorteam.touch.x.photo.PhotosAdjustmentData.EmbeddedSlimSidecarFileInfo.compressed'") even though adjustmentFormatIdentifier is not listed as a supported key. Are there other secret keys that you are aware of? Specifically I want to filter a fetch result for edited items. Something like this: NSPredicate(format: "hasAdjustments == true") (I tried this, doesn't work) The native Photos app has such a filter which leads me to believe that there probably is a key for this: If one of the Framework Developers reads this: Could you please update the documentation page with this information? Finally if there really aren't any more secret keys, is there a way to achieve this with adjustmentFormatIdentifier? I have tried a bunch of stuff already like adjustmentFormatIdentifier != nil but for some reason that gives me the exact opposite of what I want: all the photos without edits. 🫠 Any tips on the correct syntax here would be much appreciated.

PHPickerResult take loong time to load large video
On some devices, loadFileRepresentation(forTypeIdentifier: completionHandler) take a loong time(about two minute) to callback result for some large video(about 200 MB, take by device camera). environment: Model: iPhone 12 Model Number: MGGM3CH/A iOS Version: 18.3.2 PHPickerResult.NSItemProvider.loadFileRepresentation() // import PhotosUI func picker(_ picker: PHPickerViewController, didFinishPicking results: [PHPickerResult]) { picker.dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil) guard let provider = results.last?.itemProvider else { return } guard provider.hasItemConformingToTypeIdentifier(UTType.movie.identifier) else { return } Task { provider.loadFileRepresentation(forTypeIdentifier: UTType.movie.identifier) { url, error in guard let url = url else { return } // Do some stuff... } } } ps: I also try some other function, eg: provide.loadItem(forTypeIdentifier:), but not work too.

Microphone Recording interrupts when phone ringing
I'm developing an iOS app that requires continuous audio recording. Currently, when a phone call comes in, the AVAudioSession is interrupted and recording stops completely during the ringing phase. While I understand recording should stop if the call is answered, my app needs to continue recording while the phone is merely ringing. I've observed that Apple's Voice Memos app maintains recording during incoming call rings. This indicates the hardware and iOS are capable of supporting this functionality. Request Please advise on any available AVAudioSession configurations or APIs that would allow my app to: Continue recording during an incoming call ring Only stop recording if/when the call is actually answered Impact This interruption significantly impacts the user experience and core functionality of my app. Workarounds like asking users to enable airplane mode are impractical and create a poor user experience. Questions Is there an approved way to maintain microphone access during call rings? If not currently possible, could this capability be considered for addition to a future iOS SDK? Are there any interim solutions or best practices Apple recommends for this use case? Thank you for your help. SUPPORT INFORMATION Did someone from Apple ask you to submit a code-level support request? No Do you have a focused test project that demonstrates your issue? Yes, I have a focused test project to submit with my request What code level support issue are you having? Problems with an Apple framework API in my app

Ducking MusicKit output when playing another sound
I am developing an app that uses MusicKit to play music and then I need to have spoken words played to the user, while ducking the audio coming from MusicKit (application music player) the built in Siri voices are not off sufficient quality so I am using an external service to create an mp3 file and then play this back using AVAudioSession Sample code below the problem I am having is that .duckOthers is not ducking the Application Music Player output Is this a bug or am I doing this wrong? // Configure audio session for system-wide ducking try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setCategory(.playback, mode: .spokenAudio, options: [.duckOthers, .mixWithOthers]) try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setActive(true) // Set the ducking level to maximum try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setPreferredIOBufferDuration(0.005) // Create and configure audio player self.audioPlayer = try AVAudioPlayer(data: audioData) self.audioPlayer?.delegate = self self.audioPlayer?.volume = 1.0 // Ensure full volume for speech self.audioPlayer?.prepareToPlay() // Set the audio player's settings for maximum clarity self.audioPlayer?.enableRate = false self.audioPlayer?.pan = 0.0 // Center the audio self.audioPlayer?.play()

How to Keep Camera Running in iOS PiP Mode (Like WhatsApp/Google Meet)?
I'm using Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode in my native iOS application, which is similar to Google Meet, using the VideoSDK.live Native iOS SDK. The SDK has built-in support for PiP and it's working fine for the most part. However, I'm running into a problem: When the app enters PiP mode, the local camera (self-video) of the participant freezes or stops. I want to fix this and achieve the same smooth behavior seen in apps like Google Meet and WhatsApp, where the local camera keeps working even in PiP mode. I've been trying to find documentation or examples on how to achieve this but haven't had much luck. I came across a few mentions that using the camera in the background may require special entitlements from Apple (like in the entitlements file). Most of the official documentation says background camera access is restricted due to Apple’s privacy policies. So my questions are: Has anyone here successfully implemented background camera access in PiP mode on iOS? If yes, what permissions or entitlements are required? How do apps like WhatsApp and Google Meet achieve this functionality on iPhones? Any help, advice, or pointers would be really appreciated!

issue in recording using AVAudio
Hi, In my project I am using AVFoundation for recording the audio. We are using AVAudioMixerNode class below method to record the audio packet. **func installTap( onBus bus: AVAudioNodeBus, bufferSize: AVAudioFrameCount, format: AVAudioFormat?, block tapBlock: @escaping AVAudioNodeTapBlock ) ** It works perfectly fine. But in production env some small percentage of the user we are facing issue like after recording few packets it stops automatically without stopping the audio engine. Can anyone help here that why this happens? I have also observed for mediaServicesWereResetNotification and added log on receiving this notification but when this issue happens I don't see any occurence of this log. Also is there any callback when the engine stops?

About the built-in instrument sound of Apple devices
Does anyone know how to pronounce the sound of a specific instrument when you tap a button on the screen on your iPhone or iPad? Now, in the middle of creating a music learning app, I'm thinking of assigning monotones or chords to the button-like frames on the keyboard and fingerboard on the screen. Can it be achieved with SwiftUI chords alone? Once upon a time, MIDI level 1 I remember that there was a pronunciation function of the instrument, but I don't think about implementing the same function in the current OS. Please lend me your wisdom.

Proposal for a Privacy-Focused, iOS-Exclusive Dating App
Hello Apple Developers, I’m reaching out to the community with a concept that I truly believe could be a natural fit for the Apple ecosystem: A privacy-focused, iOS-exclusive dating app designed to enhance connections between Apple users while staying true to Apple’s commitment to security and user privacy. The idea is to create an iOS-only dating platform that fosters relationships between users who are part of the Apple ecosystem. The app would integrate seamlessly with Apple’s services (iMessage, FaceTime, Siri, etc.) and provide a premium user experience, where privacy is a priority. Apple users already prefer to communicate using Apple services (iMessage, FaceTime). A dating app designed specifically for iOS users would deepen this ecosystem lock-in, making it easier for Apple customers to connect within a trusted space. Apple is already known for its privacy focus, and an iOS-exclusive dating app would build upon that reputation. It would ensure secure, private interactions, minimizing the risks associated with data sharing in most dating apps today. The app could integrate directly with features like iCloud, Apple Pay (for date-night bookings), and Siri (for matchmaking suggestions), offering users a truly native iOS experience. While the app would remain free to use, here are a few potential monetization methods: Bundling with Apple One/iCloud+ for premium matchmaking features. Apple Pay-based date-night deals with local partners. I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether Apple might be open to this idea. Would there be any challenges from a technical or business perspective in creating a dating app exclusively for iOS users? I’m looking forward to hearing from you all, and thank you for your time and insights. Yours Truly, CapNKirk P.S. This is an idea. But I do not care who uses, implements, or executes this idea. I just want to see Apple take advantage of it.

The files generated using AVAudioRecorder have a constant size of only 4kb
Hello. My app uses AVAudioRecorder to generate recording files, which are consistently only 4kb in size. Most users generate audio files normally, with only a few users experiencing this phenomenon occasionally. After uninstalling and installing the app, it will work normally, but it will reappear after a period of time. I have compared that the problematic audio files generated each time are fixed and cannot be played. Added the audioRecorderDidFinishRecording proxy method, which shows that the recording was completed normally. The user also reported that the recording is normal, but there is a problem with the generated file. How should I handle this issue? Look forward to your reply. - (void)startRecordWithOrderID:(NSString *)orderID { AVAudioSession *audioSession = [AVAudioSession sharedInstance]; [audioSession setCategory:AVAudioSessionCategoryRecord error:nil]; [audioSession setActive:YES error:nil]; NSMutableDictionary *settings = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithFloat: 8000.0] forKey:AVSampleRateKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt: kAudioFormatLinearPCM] forKey:AVFormatIDKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:16] forKey:AVLinearPCMBitDepthKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt: 1] forKey:AVNumberOfChannelsKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:AVLinearPCMIsBigEndianKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:AVLinearPCMIsFloatKey]; NSString *path = [WDUtility createDirInDocument:@"audios" withOrderID:orderID withPathExtension:@"wav"]; NSURL *tmpFile = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:path]; recorder = [[AVAudioRecorder alloc] initWithURL:tmpFile settings:settings error:nil]; [recorder setDelegate:self]; [recorder prepareToRecord]; [recorder record]; }

WWDC25 Camera & Photos group lab summary (Part 2 of 3)
(Note: this is part 2 of a 3 part posting. See Part 1 or Part 3) At WWDC25 we launched a new type of Lab event for the developer community - Group Labs. A Group Lab is a panel Q&A designed for a large audience of developers. Group Labs are a unique opportunity for the community to submit questions directly to a panel of Apple engineers and designers. Here are the highlights from the WWDC25 Group Lab for Camera & Photos. WWDC25 Camera & Photos group lab ran for one hour at 6 PM PST on Tuesday June 10th, 2025 Question 10 Can we directly integrate auto-capture triggers (e.g., when image is steady or text is detected) using Vision and AVFoundation? Yes apps can use AVCaptureSession's VDO + AVCapturePhotoOutput, run vision on VDO buffers and capture photo when certain scene or text is detected. Just to be careful to run Vision on VDO buffers async so it doesn't cause frame drops. Question 11 What Camera or Photos framework features support working with images from external media, like connected cameras or SD cards? Any best practices? The ImageCaptureCore framework supports camera devices, memory cards, scanners read and write, where supported check out the docs to see how to browse connected devices, folders, files, etc. Question 12 Hi Brad, to follow up on your SwiftUI cautionary note: using AVCaptureVideoPreview inside a UIViewRepresentable, is okay, right? Thanks all for the great info! Yes, this is totally fine. AppKit or UIKit views inside appropriate SwiftUI representables should be equivalent performance Question 13 What’s the “right” way to transition media in my photos app between HDR modes? When I’m in a one-up view, we use HDR, but in other contexts (like thumbnail) we don’t want HDR. Is there a nice way to tone map? There’s a suite of new System Tone Mapper APIs in this years’ OSes CoreImage ImageKit CoreAnimation, CoreGraphics For example: CoreImage: new CISystemToneMap filter. CoreAnimation: layer.preferredDynamicRange = CADynamicRangeConstrainedHigh Using image views (NSImageView/UIImageView/SwiftUI Image/CALayer) support animations on preferredDynamicRange Can go from high to constrained to standard Tone mapping is provided by the system (CISystemToneMap for controllable example) Question 14 What is your recommendation to preprocess and upscale your depth map in order to render a realistic portrait mode image? One way to do this: the CIEdgePreserveUpsample CIFilter can be use to upsample a lower resolution depth map by using a higher resolution RGB image as a guide. Question 15 For buffering frames for later processing from real-time camera output should we prefer a AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer centered approach or AVCaptureVideoDataOutputSampleBufferDelegate centered approach? When would we use each? AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer and AVCaptureVideoDataOutputSampleBufferDelegate are used hand in hand for custom camera preview. For buffering for later processing, ensure you make copies of VDO buffers to not drop frames from the output Question 16 Hello, my question is on Deferred Photo Processing? Say I have a photo capture app that adds a CIFilter to the capture. How can I take advantage of Deferred Photo Processing? Since I don’t know how to detect when the deferred captured photo is ready CIFilter can be called on the final at that point Photo will have to be re-inserted into the Photo library as adjustment Question 17 Is digital zoom (e.g., 1.5x) before taking a photo the same as cropping the photo afterward? digital zoom upscales the image to output dimensions and cropping will yield a smaller output image while digital zoom will crop, it also upscales Question 18 How do you design camera interfaces that work for both casual users and photography enthusiasts? Progressive disclosure: Put the most common controls up front, and make it easy for pros to drill down. Sensible Defaults: Choose defaults that work well for casual users, but allow those defaults to be modified for photography enthusiasts A good philosophy is: Keep the simple things easy, make the hard things possible Question 19 Recent iPhone models introduced macro mode which automatically switch between lenses to take into account of the focal distance difference. Is there official API to implement this, or should I implement them myself using LiDAR values. Using builtInTripleCamera and builtInDualWideCamera will automatically switch to macro when available Question 20 a couple of years ago at WWDC, the option of replacing a camera with a virtual camera was mentioned. How does one do that - make the “physical” camera effectively disappear, so only the virtual camera is accessible to the user? You can't prevent the built-in camera from being available to the user Question 21 Can developers now integrate custom Core ML models with Vision for on-device photo analysis more seamlessly? Yes they can, use CoreMLRequest , provide their model container Been supported for a while (iOS 18/macOS 15) For more details go to Machine Learning & AI group lab Thursday use smaller images for better performance Question 22 What would you recommend for capture of the new immersive and spatial formats? To capture Spatial Video use AVCaptureMovieFileOutput’s spatialVideoCaptureEnabled property Not all device formats support spatial capture, check AVCaptureDevice.activeFormat.spatialVideoCaptureSupported See WWDC 2024 talk “Build compelling spatial photo and video experiences” for more details Question 23 You mentioned JPEG-XL. What is the current status of support on iOS and macOS for encoding and decoding? For decoding, we support JPEG-XL files in all our OSes, regular SDR files, as well as ISO HDR files. For encoding, we only support JPEG-XL for ProRAW DNG capture in the Camera app or via third-party AVFoundation APIs. If you have any requests for improvement or new features related to JPEG-XL, please file a Feedback request using the Feedback Assistant. (Note: this is part 2 of a 3 part posting. See Part 1 or Part 3)

PHPickerResult return different data for the one media
On some devices, when i select the same media multiple times, the data by` loadFileRepresentation(forTypeIdentifier: completionHandler) ` returned is different(data.count is not equal). environment: * Model: iPhone 12 * Model Number: MGGM3CH/A * iOS Version: 18.3.2 ```Swift // import PhotosUI func picker(_ picker: PHPickerViewController, didFinishPicking results: [PHPickerResult]) { picker.dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil) guard let provider = results.last?.itemProvider else { return } guard provider.hasItemConformingToTypeIdentifier(UTType.movie.identifier) else { return } Task { provider.loadFileRepresentation(forTypeIdentifier: UTType.movie.identifier) { url, error in guard let url = url else { return } if let data = try? iOS 18 Picture-in-Picture dynamically changes UIScreen.main.bounds on iPhone 11 causing keyboard clipping and layout issues
When creating and activating AVPictureInPictureController on iPhone 11 running iOS 18.x, the main screen viewport unexpectedly changes from the native 375×812 logical points to 414×896 points (the size of a different device such as iPhone XR/11 Plus). Additionally, a separate UIWindow with zero CGRect is created. This causes UIKit layout calculations, especially related to the keyboard and safeAreaInsets, to malfunction and results in issues like keyboard clipping and general UI misalignment. The problem appears tied specifically to iOS 18+ behavior and does not manifest on earlier iOS versions or other devices consistently. Steps to Reproduce: Run the app on iPhone 11 with iOS 18.x (including the latest minor updates). Instantiate and start an AVPictureInPictureController during app runtime. Observe that UIScreen.main.bounds changes from 375×812 (native iPhone 11 size) to 414×896. Notice a secondary UIWindow appears with frame CGRectZero. Interact with text inputs that cause the keyboard to appear. The keyboard is clipped or partially obscured, causing UI usability issues. Layout elements dependent on UIScreen.main.bounds or safeAreaInsets behave incorrectly. Expected Behavior: UIScreen.main.bounds should not dynamically change upon PiP controller creation. The coordinate space and viewport should remain accurate to device native dimensions. The keyboard and UI layout should adjust properly with respect to the actual on-screen size and safe areas. Actual Behavior: UIScreen.main.bounds changes to 414×896 upon PiP controller creation on iPhone 11 iOS 18+. A zero-rect secondary UIWindow is created, impacting layout queries. Keyboard clipping and UI layout bugs occur. The app viewport and coordinate space are inconsistent with device hardware.

How to disable automatic updates to MPNowPlayingInfoCenter from AVPlayer
I’m building a SwiftUI app whose primary job is to play audio. I manage all of the Now-Playing metadata and Command center manually via the available shared instances: MPRemoteCommandCenter.shared() MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().nowPlayingInfo In certain parts of the app I also need to display videos, but as soon as I attach another AVPlayer, it automatically pushes its own metadata into the Control Center and overwrites my audio info. What I need: a way to show video inline without ever having that video player update the system’s Now-Playing info (or Control Center). In my app, I start by configuring the shared audio session do { try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setCategory(.playback, mode: .default, options: [ .allowAirPlay, .allowBluetoothA2DP ]) try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setActive(true) } catch { NSLog("%@", "**** Failed to set up AVAudioSession \(error.localizedDescription)") } and then set the MPRemoteCommandCenter commands and MPNowPlayingInfoCenter nowPlayingInfo like mentioned above. All this works without any issues as long as I only have one AVPlayer in my app. But when I add other AVPlayers to display some videos (and keep the main AVPlayer for the sound) they push undesired updates to MPNowPlayingInfoCenter: struct VideoCardView: View { @State private var player: AVPlayer let videoName: String init(player: AVPlayer = AVPlayer(), videoName: String) { self.player = player self.videoName = videoName guard let path = Bundle.main.path(forResource: videoName, ofType: nil) else { return } let url = URL(fileURLWithPath: path) let item = AVPlayerItem(url: url) self.player.replaceCurrentItem(with: item) } var body: some View { VideoPlayer(player: player) .aspectRatio(contentMode: .fill) .onAppear { player.isMuted = true player.allowsExternalPlayback = false player.actionAtItemEnd = .none player.play() MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().nowPlayingInfo = nil MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().playbackState = .stopped NotificationCenter.default.addObserver(forName: .AVPlayerItemDidPlayToEndTime, object: player.currentItem, queue: .main) { notification in guard let finishedItem = notification.object as? AVPlayerItem, finishedItem === player.currentItem else { return } player.seek(to: .zero) player.play() } } .onDisappear { player.pause() } } } Which is why I tried adding: MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().nowPlayingInfo = nil MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().playbackState = .stopped // or .interrupted, .unknown But that didn't work. I also tried making a wrapper around the AVPlayerViewController in order to set updatesNowPlayingInfoCenter to false, but that didn’t work either: struct CustomAVPlayerView: UIViewControllerRepresentable { let player: AVPlayer func makeUIViewController(context: Context) -> AVPlayerViewController { let vc = AVPlayerViewController() vc.player = player vc.updatesNowPlayingInfoCenter = false vc.showsPlaybackControls = false return vc } func updateUIViewController(_ controller: AVPlayerViewController, context: Context) { controller.player = player } } Hence any help on how to embed video in SwiftUI without its AVPlayer touching MPNowPlayingInfoCenter would be greatly appreciated. All this was tested on an actual device with iOS 18.4.1, and built with Xcode 16.2 on macOS 15.5

Audio / Video sync issue on iOS using AVSampleBufferRenderSynchronizer
My current app implements a custom video player, based on a AVSampleBufferRenderSynchronizer synchronising two renderers: an AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer receiving decoded CVPixelBuffer-based video CMSampleBuffers, and an AVSampleBufferAudioRenderer receiving decoded lpcm-based audio CMSampleBuffers. The AVSampleBufferRenderSynchronizer is started when the first image (in presentation order) is decoded and enqueued, using avSynchronizer.setRate(_ rate: Float, time: CMTime), with rate = 1 and time the presentation timestamp of the first decoded image. Presentation timestamps of video and audio sample buffers are consistent, and on most streams, the audio and video are correctly synchronized. However on some network streams, on iOS, the audio and video aren't synchronized, with a time difference that seems to increase with time. On the other hand, with the same player code and network streams on macOS, the synchronization always works fine. This reminds me of something I've read, about cases where an AVSampleBufferRenderSynchronizer could not synchronize audio and video, causing them to run with independent and potentially drifting clocks, but I cannot find it again. So, any help / hints on this sync problem will be greatly appreciated! :)

Why Does WebView Audio Get Quiet During RTC Calls? (AVAudioSession Analysis)
I developed an educational app that implements audio-video communication through RTC, while using WebView to display course materials during classes. However, some users are experiencing an issue where the audio playback from WebView is very quiet. I've checked that the AVAudioSessionCategory is set by RTC to AVAudioSessionCategoryPlayAndRecord, and the AVAudioSessionCategoryOption also includes AVAudioSessionCategoryOptionMixWithOthers. What could be causing the WebView audio to be suppressed, and how can this be resolved?

Pip custom view in Xcode16, iOS18, does not display when the camera is turned on
I have added some custom views on my pip. These controls disappeared after opening the camera in the Xcode16 environment and iOS 18 system, and it was found that these custom views were not removed and seemed to be obscured. They were displayed normally in the Xcode15.4 environment. I would like to ask how to make my custom views display normally

Hello. My app uses AVAudioRecorder to generate recording files, which are consistently only 4kb in size. Most users generate audio files normally, with only a few users experiencing this phenomenon occasionally. After uninstalling and installing the app, it will work normally, but it will reappear after a period of time. I have compared that the problematic audio files generated each time are fixed and cannot be played. Added the audioRecorderDidFinishRecording proxy method, which shows that the recording was completed normally. The user also reported that the recording is normal, but there is a problem with the generated file. How should I handle this issue? Look forward to your reply. - (void)startRecordWithOrderID:(NSString *)orderID { AVAudioSession *audioSession = [AVAudioSession sharedInstance]; [audioSession setCategory:AVAudioSessionCategoryRecord error:nil]; [audioSession setActive:YES error:nil]; NSMutableDictionary *settings = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithFloat: 8000.0] forKey:AVSampleRateKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt: kAudioFormatLinearPCM] forKey:AVFormatIDKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:16] forKey:AVLinearPCMBitDepthKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt: 1] forKey:AVNumberOfChannelsKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:AVLinearPCMIsBigEndianKey]; [settings setObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:AVLinearPCMIsFloatKey]; NSString *path = [WDUtility createDirInDocument:@"audios" withOrderID:orderID withPathExtension:@"wav"]; NSURL *tmpFile = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:path]; recorder = [[AVAudioRecorder alloc] initWithURL:tmpFile settings:settings error:nil]; [recorder setDelegate:self]; [recorder prepareToRecord]; [recorder record]; }

Data(contentsOf: url) { print("data count is: \(data.count)") } } } } ``` ps: I also try some other function, eg: ` provide.loadItem(forTypeIdentifier:)`, but not work too.

iOS 18 Picture-in-Picture dynamically changes UIScreen.main.bounds on iPhone 11 causing keyboard clipping and layout issues
