My App supports two services that is Push Notification for Alerts and a Voip Call feature whose notification also comes in the same way as of PushNotification but video rendering is done with GoogleWebRTC.
The App was working perfectly fine but from past few months these services are not working.[ Nothing is changed in App and on the server side to push the notifications]
Issues:
VoIP (Video call) not working: I have apns certificate which is valid in today's date and stays with the backend Server. My server sends the payload notification to APNS but on iPhone am unable to receive it. I have checked the App registration part also and is able to receive the token for the same.
Framework used are: PushKit, UserNotifications, GoogleWebRTC .
I don't understand where is the gap, the backend triggers the APNS but there no response.
Ports enabled on server are: 443, 5223, 2197, 2195, 2196.
Similarly Push notification were also not working, So I tried to change it to register on Firebase for device registration token And did some coding at backend to send the notification to that device. It was working perfectly fine from last few weeks, but it suddenly stopped. I checked the JSON Payload and tried to send it through PostMan, in both it says 200 Success. And in Application end am waiting for breakpoint to hit in userNotificationCenter(_: , willPresent, completionHandler).
What all I have checked:
1)My server to APNS server connectivity.
2)Verified the apns certificate. The certificate was created in October 2024, whose expiry is in Nov 2025 and it support both Sandbox and Production environment.
3)Checked required delegates are implemented in App. With the capability enable in it, is also sending registration token to backend.
Kindly guide me where I can check in this flow.
Thanks in Advance!

Where can I set that?

I have been watching the following moment from wwdc (Design dynamic Live Activities):
https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10194/?time=728
It suggest that you should 'tick' between multiple live activities of your app:
When you want to show multiple sessions for your app going on at once, consider ticking between the display of them to continue to give users an eye on everything that’s going on.
How can I tick between them? More specifically how can I do that when my app is in the background?
This is in an iOS Simulator running iOS 18.2
I send a start live activity push notification from the Push Notifications Console on icloud.developer.apple.com. When checking the console.log output it seems to receive the message, yet the activity does not appear in the dynamic island. (the app is backgrounded when I test this)
Can anyone tell me why it's not showing? Starting the same activity from within the app using Swift code works fine.
Here is the console.app output:

iOS has a feature that suppresses or limits the display of push notifications when multiple notifications are sent in quick succession (often referred to as rate limiting or filtering). Specifically, how many notifications within what timeframe might trigger such suppression?

Hey Together,
I have seen that critical notifications need to be confirmed by apple to be used.
Sadly I couldn't figure out where to ask for that.
Context: I have a sports tournament app for Beach Handball. There are a couple of Courts like up to 20-25. The main use for that in my app would be to notify first aiders/Medics. Right now they are called in via Speakers or by the referees just writing that into a WhatsApp chat. As this takes a long time and the speakers can be deactivated due to rain, power shortage or even the medics sometimes are not in range to exactly hear the speakers calling them.
To Speed up this process I want them to download the App, Register via an E-Mail or a One Time Code. Now if a referee needs immediate Help from the Medics on their court they can send the Critical alert to the Medics without having to write a chat into a WhatsApp group, to get a call through the speakers 10 minutes later which the medics may not even hear.
A couple of weeks ago we had a player falling on her back/neck/head and they couldn't figure out if she broke her neck or not. Luckily the medics were right next to the court and saw that. but what would happen if they were a couple hundred of meters away and did not notice that? I mean the PA system was off due to a power shortage. someone trying to move her? Risking her death?
And while we are at it we could add those notifications if a team is missing to a court for a game that already should've started. Critical because it is urgent. Those notifications are handled with care.
I am trying to retrieve delivered notifications using UNUserNotificationCenter.getDeliveredNotifications(completionHandler:), but I have encountered an issue:
Notifications triggered by UNTimeIntervalNotificationTrigger or UNCalendarNotificationTrigger appear in the delivered list.
However, notifications triggered by UNLocationNotificationTrigger do not appear in the list.
Here is the code I use to fetch delivered notifications:
UNUserNotificationCenter.current().getDeliveredNotifications { notifications in
for notification in notifications {
print("Received notification: \(notification.request.identifier)")
}
}
The notification is scheduled as follows:
let center = UNUserNotificationCenter.current()
let content = UNMutableNotificationContent()
content.title = "Test Notification"
content.body = "This is a location-based notification."
content.sound = .default
let coordinate = CLLocationCoordinate2D(latitude: 37.7749, longitude: -122.4194) // Example coordinates
let region = CLCircularRegion(center: coordinate, radius: 100, identifier: "TestRegion")
region.notifyOnEntry = true
region.notifyOnExit = false
let trigger = UNLocationNotificationTrigger(region: region, repeats: false)
let request = UNNotificationRequest(identifier: "LocationTest", content: content, trigger: trigger)
center.add(request) { error in
if let error = error {
print("Error adding notification: \(error.localizedDescription)")
}
}
Why does getDeliveredNotifications not return notifications that were triggered using UNLocationNotificationTrigger?
How can I retrieve such notifications after they have been delivered?
Dear Apple!
During WWDC24 you announced that ONE_TIME_CHARGE notification is available on the sandbox environment and will be available "it will be available in production later this year" - it's March 2025 and there is still no production release of this feature.
Could you share some timeline and plans for when we can expect that feature deployed to production?
Thanks in advance!
We are struggling with the lack of information provided by Apple re: Apple Push Notification service server certificate update
We want help from other developers on HOW TO: make sure that both old and new server certificates are included in the Trust Store
Exactly HOW is this done?
What is the Trust store and how is it accessed?
Is this done for our account once OR for each for the apps utilising APNs?
Can anyone assist?
Thanks
Louise

There's plenty of articles out there about programatically grouping push notifications. However I have tried setting the thread-id in the push payload when sending a push, or setting the threadIdentifier for a received push in a notification service extension to be the same for several pushes.
But if within the iPhone Settings / Notifications the user selects to display pushes as List and turns off Notification Grouping, then each notification resulting from the push appears on its own separately.
Is there something other than thread-id/threadidentifier that is used to programmatically group them? If not then whats the point of these as grouping and display is actually under the control of user.
I am trying to issue the "start" APNs push notification to start a live activity for my iOS app. The notification appears to send correctly, there is no error message, but the live activity never appears for any of my users (users are in TestFlight).
In addition to issuing the APNs commands from my server, I have also tried using the CloudKit Push Notification Console to manually generate a "start" notification. It submits correctly but the live activity never starts.
I have also checked the Console app to watch the device logs and see if iOS is rejecting/throttling the live activity but I don't see any activity related to the start message at all.
Here are some details:
App bundle ID: `com.penzu.moodmoji`
APNs topic: `com.penzu.moodmoji.push-type.liveactivity`
APNs push type: `liveactivity`
Recent apns-id: `7b633309-b7fd-4163-b620-776efa04f315`
APNs payload:
{
"aps": {
"timestamp": 1742651625,
"event": "start",
"content-state": {
"totalDays": 7,
"currentDay": 2,
"progress": 0.29,
"status": "ACTIVE",
"reportReady": false
},
"attributes-type": "GoalActivityAttributes",
"attributes": {
"totalDays": 7,
"currentDay": 2,
"progress": 0.29,
"status": "ACTIVE",
"reportReady": false
},
"alert": {
"title": "It's day 2!",
"body": "Don't forget to record every time you feel anxious today."
}
}
}
I can confirm that LiveActivities started by the iOS app with ActivityKit work correctly, and the app does appear to be receiving pushToStartTokenUpdates:
struct GoalActivityAttributes: ActivityAttributes, Sendable {
struct ContentState: Codable & Hashable, Sendable {
let totalDays: Int
let currentDay: Int
let progress: Double
let status: String
let reportReady: Bool
}
let goal: SimpleGoal
}
for await nextStartToken in Activity<GoalActivityAttributes>.pushToStartTokenUpdates {
// send nextStartToken to server...
}
The app I'm testing with is in TestFlight, using the production APNs environment.
Hi team,
We've observed that for all background notifications (where content-available set to true, https://developer.apple.com/documentation/usernotifications/pushing-background-updates-to-your-app#Create-a-background-notification),
we never received any response with error string "Unregistered". This
differs from non-background pushes, where expired tokens are regularly
cleared.
Is this the expected behavior (i.e.,
background notifications will not return an "Unregistered" error), or could this indicate an issue on our side?
Thanks in advance for any clarification.
I downloaded the .crt file to take the following steps. Could you please give me a guide on how to actually apply the file to the server?
Upload only files to a specific path on the Linux server.
keytool -import -alias cacert -file ca.crt -keystore client.truststore.jks
Is it possible to just apply it with the above command?
Please confirm.
thank you

I'm strugling about the way how to code notifications for my weather aplication. I use data from my server that receives weather changing values from my own weather station and want to notify user of my app when eg strong wind will blow or temperature go under eg 3℃ etc.
The weather station has 8 sensors so there is sometimes a lot of data changing in particular minute that i set to parse data from server and notify user about it. But the notifications only works only when app is on and couple minutes after locking display.
So please what could i use strategy for the app to works even when the app sleeps ?

Hi there,
I’m currently working on an app designed for doctors to respond to life-threatening situations in hospitals. The goal is for critical alerts to trigger an alarm, regardless of whether the app is in the foreground or background. The critical alerts entitlement is already set up, but there’s a limitation: I can only attach a 30-second audio file to the notification, as I can’t run code to loop the sound when the app is swiped away.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I might approach this problem?
Thanks so much in advance!

I'm sending push notifications to a notification extension, and within the extension setting the threadIdentifier to be the same.
But I'm observing inconsistent grouping behaviour, and behaviour that changes over time.
The general iPhone settings are to display notifications as a Stack, and the app settings are to show on lock screen, notification center and banners and the notification grouping is set to by app (changing it to automatic doesn't affect the behaviour below).
Pushes are displayed on the lock screen grouped together, then if the device is roused and the screen swiped down to reveal the notification center then they are still grouped.
So far so good.
If the iphone is active then the notifications appear at the top of the screen, one by one, but in this case if there is a swipe down to reveal the notification center then the notifications are not grouped when displayed, but shown individually.
But then if one waits a few minutes and then displays the notification center for a 2nd time, sometimes now they will be grouped, but sometimes not.
Why are they not (always) being displayed as grouped in the notification center?
I'm running into an issue during the iOS build process for my app, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
❗ The Problem
When attempting to archive the app via EAS Build (Expo), the build fails with the following error:
`Provisioning profile "HCF_AppStore_ProvisioningProfile" doesn't include the com.apple.developer.push-notifications entitlement. Profile qualification is using entitlement definitions that may be out of date. Connect to network to update.`
What I’ve Already Done:
Enabled Push Notifications capability for the App ID (com.rsmco.helpcreatefamilies) in the Apple Developer portal.
Deleted and regenerated the App Store Provisioning Profile after enabling the capability.
Confirmed the new profile is associated with the correct App ID and Distribution Certificate.
Uploaded the new profile to EAS (Expo) and rebuilt the app.
Yet the error persists during the Xcode archive step with Exit code 65.
Additional Info:

I created a Notification Service Extension to display profile images in place for the app image (i.e. iMessage).
I send a remote push notification via Firebase Functions, and in the payload, the relevant profile image url string. The profile image url string in the payload is successfully delivered as it appears in my console log and AppDelegate didReceiveRemoteNotification function.
My problem is the profile image does not replace the default app icon image in the remote push notification.
Below is my configuration. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hello,
I have a question regarding the replacement of the APNs authentication key (.p8) in a Firebase setup for push notifications.
Currently, my app uses an APNs authentication key from the original Apple Developer account. However, we are in the process of transferring app ownership to a new Apple Developer account, which will require generating a new APNs authentication key and updating it in Firebase.
My concerns are:
Impact on Existing Device Tokens:
If we replace the existing .p8 key with a new one generated from the new developer account, will the existing APNs device tokens remain valid, or will they need to be reissued?
Push Notification Delivery:
Will Firebase still be able to send push notifications to devices that were registered with the previous APNs authentication key after the key is replaced?
Steps for a Smooth Transition:
Are there any best practices or additional steps we need to follow to ensure uninterrupted delivery of push notifications during and after the key replacement?
Any insights or guidance from the Apple Developer team or community would be greatly appreciated.
