I have an app that I signed and distribute between some internal testflight users. Potentially I want to invite some 'Public' beta testers which don't need to validate (_World have read rights in the public database)
Question: Do I need to have a working public CloudKit , when users are invited through TestFlight, or are they going to test on the development container?
I understand that when I invite beta-tester without authorization (external testers) they cannot access the developer container, so therefore I need to have the production CloudKit container up and running.
I have tried to populate the public production container, but for whatever reason my upload app still goes to the development container. I have archived the app, and tried, but no luck. I let xcode manage my certificates/profiles. but what do I need to change to be able to use my upload file to upload the production container, instead of the development.

What can I check/do to solve this.

Hey there,
Can we bundle our app with our own version of SQLite with extensions that we want. From what I've seen, we aren't allowed to add extensions to the built in IOS SQLite, so would this be the only way to use extensions. I ask this because I want to use the spell fix extension.
I couldn't find a lot of people talking about adding SQLite extensions.

I am running a versionedSchema for my SwiftData model and attempting a migration. The new version contains a new attribute, with a type of a new custom enum defined in the @Model class, a default value, and a private(set). Migration was completed with a migrationPlan with nil values for willMigrate and didMigrate.

Issue
Running this code, I get a swiftData error for “SwiftData/ModelCoders.swift:1585: nil value passed for a non-optional keyPath, /MyNumber.rounding”
I assume this means a failure of the swiftData lightweight migration? I have reverted the version, removed private(set) and re-tried the migration with no success.
Using the versionedSchema with migrationPlans, are lightweight migrations possible? Could this be an issue with the use of a custom enum? Other changes in my actual project migrated successfully so I’m lost on why I’m having this issue.
LSUB always returns all the subscribed folders. For example
lsub "" "test/*"
returns a list of all the folders and not just subscribed folders that are subfolders of test. I.e, it returns the same folder list as

I have an app which uses ubiquitous containers and files in them to share data between devices. It's a bit unusual in that it indexes files in directories the user grants access to, which may or may not exist on a second device - those files are identified by SHA-1 hash. So a second device scanning before iCloud data has fully sync'd can create duplicate references which lead to an unpleasant user experience.
To solve this, I store a small binary index in the root of the ubiquitous file container of the shared data, containing all of the known hashes, and as the user proceeds through the onboarding process, a background thread is attempting to "prime" the ubiquitous container by calling FileManager.default.startDownloadingUbiquitousItemAt() for each expected folder and file in a sane order.
This likely creates a situation not anticipated by the iOS/iCloud integration's design, as it means my app has a sort of precognition of files it should not yet know about.
In the common case, it works, but there is a corner case where iCloud sync has just begun, and very, very little metadata is available (the common case, however, in an emulator), in which two issues come up:
I/O may hang indefinitely, trying to read a file as it is arriving. This one I can work around by running the I/O in a thread created with the POSIX pthread_create and using pthread_cancel to kill it after a timeout.
Attempts to call FileManager.default.startDownloadingUbiquitousItemAt() fails with an error Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=257 "The file couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it.". The permissions aspect of it is nonsense, but I can believe there's no applicable "sort of exists, sort of doesn't" error code to use and someone punted. The problem is that this same error will be thrown on any attempt to access that file for the life of the application - a restart is required to make it usable.
Clearly, the error or the hallucinated permission failure is cached somewhere in the bowels of iOS's FileManager. I was hoping startAccessingSecurityScopedResource() would allow me to bypass such a cache, as it does with URL.resourceValues() returning stale file sizes and last modified times. But it does not.
Is there some way to clear this state without popping up a UI with an Exit button (not exactly the desired iOS user experience)?

Users have been reporting that the TestFlight version of my app (compiled with Xcode 26 Beta 6 17A5305f) is sometimes crashing on startup. Upon investigating their ips files, it looks like Core Data is locking up internally during its initialization, resulting in iOS killing my app. I have not recently changed my Core Data initialization logic, and it's unclear how I should proceed.
Is this a known issue? Any recommended workaround? I have attached the crash stack below.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on migrating my app (SwimTimes, which helps swimmers track their times) to use Core Data + CKSyncEngine with Swift 6.
After many iterations, forum searches, and experimentation, I’ve created a focused sample project that demonstrates the architecture I’m using.
The good news:
👉 I believe the crashes I was experiencing are now solved, and the sync behavior is working correctly.
👉 The demo project compiles and runs cleanly with Swift 6.
However, before adopting this as the final architecture, I’d like to ask the community (and hopefully Apple engineers) to validate a few critical points, especially regarding Swift 6 concurrency and Core Data contexts.
Architecture Overview
Persistence layer: Persistence.swift sets up the Core Data stack with a main viewContext and a background context for CKSyncEngine.
Repositories: All Core Data access is abstracted into repository classes (UsersRepository, SwimTimesRepository), with async/await methods.
SyncEngine: Wraps CKSyncEngine, handles system fields, sync tokens, and bridging between Core Data entities and CloudKit records.
ViewModels: Marked @MainActor, exposing @Published arrays for SwiftUI. They never touch Core Data directly, only via repositories.
UI: Simple SwiftUI views bound to the ViewModels.
Entities:
UserEntity → represents swimmers.
SwimTimeEntity → times linked to a user (1-to-many).
Current Status
The project works and syncs across devices. But there are two open concerns I’d like validated:
Concurrency & Memory Safety
Am I correctly separating viewContext (main/UI) vs. background context (used by CKSyncEngine)?
Could there still be hidden risks of race conditions or memory crashes that I’m not catching?
Swift 6 Sendable Compliance
Currently, I still need @unchecked Sendable in the SyncEngine and repository layers.
What is the recommended way to fully remove these workarounds and make the code safe under Swift 6’s stricter concurrency rules?

Please review this sample project and confirm whether the concurrency model is correct.
Suggest how I can remove the @unchecked Sendable annotations safely.
Any additional code improvements or best practices would also be very welcome — the intention is to share this as a community resource.

Hi,
I am testing a situation with shared CKRecords where the data in the CKRecord syncs fine, but the creatorUserRecordID.recordName and lastModifiedUserRecordID.recordName shows "defaultOwner" (which maps to the CKCurrentUserDefaultName constant) even though I made sure I edit the CKRecord value from a different iCloud account. In fact, on the CloudKit dashboard, it shows the correct user recordIDs in the metadata for the 'Created' and 'Modified' fields, but not in the CKRecord.
I am mostly testing this on the iPhone simulator with the debugger attached. Is that a possible reason for this, or is there some other reason the lastModifiedUserRecordID is showing the value for 'CKCurrentUserDefaultName'? It would be pretty difficult to build in functionality to look up changes by a different userID if this is the case.
While experimenting with CloudKit dashboard, I accidentally turned off a iCloud container.
Now in the Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles section of developer portal, this iCloud container identifier is listed under "hidden" not "active"
I can edit its name but there is not way to unhide or active it again.
What am I missing?

My entity has a startDate (NSTime) attribute where I use the date and time in my detail display of the entity.
And in my list, I need to group my entities by day (YYMMDD) based on the start date; and I want to ensure that it can adapt to the region where the user is currently (e.g. if user travels or migrate, the YYMMDD should be adapted based on the current region). Does Core Data SectionedFetchRequest supports strftime() functions from SQLite (https://sqlite.org/lang_datefunc.html) or what is an effective alternative sectioned fetch in my case?

When I went live with my app I didn't have a versioned schema, but quickly had to change that as I needed to add items to my SDPlanBrief Model.
The first versioned schema I made included only the model that I had made a change to.

Each time I run the app now, I suddenly get this message a few times in a row:

Can someone see if I am doing something wrong here? It seems my TestFlight users are experiencing a crash every now and then when certain views load (I assume when accessing @Query objects). Seems its more so when a view loads quickly, like when removing a subscription view where the data may not have had time to load??? Can someone please have a look and help me out.
There's some logic in my app that first checks to see if a specific CloudKit record zone exists. If it doesn't, it creates the zone, and then my application continues on with its work.
The way I've implemented this right now is by catching the zoneNotFound error when I call CKDatabase#recordZone(for:) (docs) and creating the zone when that happens:

Is there a way to do this without explicitly triggering a CloudKit error?
I just found CKDatabase#recordZones(for:) (docs), which seems like it returns an empty array instead of throwing an error if the zone doesn't exist.
Will calling that and looking for a non-empty array work just as well, but without logging lots of errors in the console?
Hi guys. Can someone please confirm this bug so I report it? The issue is that SwiftData relationships don't update the views in some specific situations on devices running iOS 18 Beta. One clear example is with CloudKit. I created a small example for testing. The following code creates two @models, one to store bands and another to store their records. The following code works with no issues. (You need to connect to a CloudKit container and test it on two devices)

This view includes a button at the top to add a new record associated with a new band. The data appears on both devices, but if you include more views inside the List, the views on the second device are not updated to show the values of the relationships. Here I use a ForEach loop and move the row to a separate view. Now on the second device the relationships are nil, so the row shows the text "Undefined" instead of the name of the band.
I attached an image from my iPad. I inserted all the information on my iPhone. The first three rows were inserted with the first view. But the last two rows were inserted after I extracted the rows to a separate view. Here you can see that the relationships are nil and therefore shown as "Undefined". The views are not updated to show the real value of the relationship.
This example shows the issue with CloudKit, but this also happens locally in some situations. The system doesn't detect updates in relationships and therefore doesn't refresh the views.
Please, let me know if you can reproduce the issue. I'm using Mac Sequoia 15.1, and two devices with iOS 18.0.

The tutorial has a one to many relationship between Friend and Movie (each friend can have at most one favorite movie and each movie can be the favorite for zero or more friends).
An exercise left to the student is to use an .onDelete on the movie detail page to delete that movie as favorite.

There is an if in the Form that doesn't display the FAVORITED BY section if no friend has that movie as a favorite, but if I delete all the friends who had this movie as a favorite, the section remains (but is empty), until I exit the MovieDetail view and reload it
There is no answer for these exercises, so I could be doing it wrong.
EDIT: If I delete a movie using the app function to delete a movie, friends that have that movie as a favorite are not deleted and have their favorite movie set to None
I'm trying to set up an application using SwiftData to have a number of models backed by a local datastore that's not synced to CloudKit, and another set of models that is. I was able to achieve this previously with Core Data using multiple NSPersistentStoreDescription instances.

However, it doesn't seem to work as expected. If I remove the synced/remote schema and configuration then everything works fine, but the moment I add in the remote schema and configuration I get various different application crashes. Some examples below:

I’m currently developing a SwiftUI app that uses SwiftData with CloudKit sharing enabled. The app works fine on my own Apple ID, and local syncing with iCloud is functioning correctly — but sharing with other Apple IDs consistently fails.
Setup:

Verified the iCloud container is correctly created and enabled in the Apple Developer portal
Checked bundle identifier and container settings
Rebuilt and reinstalled the app
Ensured correct iCloud entitlements and signing capabilities
Questions:
Why does CloudKit reject the container for sharing while local syncing works fine?
Are there known issues with SwiftData .shared containers and multi-user sharing?
Are additional steps required (App Store Connect, privacy settings) to allow sharing with other Apple IDs?
Any advice, experience, or example projects would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

In the CloudKit logs I see logs that suggest users getting QUOTA_EXCEEDED error for RecordDelete operations.

I'm confused as to what this means? Why would a RecordDelete operation have recordInsertBytes? I'd expect a RecordDelete operation to never fail on quotaExceeded and how would I handle that in the app?
