Location Push Service Extension Entitlement – Request Process

Hi team,

Earlier, Apple’s documentation clearly mentioned that we needed to submit a request to Apple to obtain the Location Push Service Extension (com.apple.developer.location.push) entitlement.

However, when I checked the Apple Developer Portal now, I don’t see an option to request this entitlement for my App ID.

Could you please confirm whether this entitlement is still required to be requested from Apple, or if the process has changed and the request is no longer required?

Thanks

Thank you so much for this great post. Yes the documentation shows

Without this entitlement, your code receives an error when it calls startMonitoringLocationPushes(completion:).

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/bundleresources/entitlements/com.apple.developer.location.push

However, there is no option available when attempting to submit that entitlement. Therefore, I believe the process may have undergone a change, and the documentation may require updating if that is accurate. May I kindly request that you submit a radar against the documentation so that we can route it internally to ensure that all necessary updates are made? As right now there is a discrepancy.

Once you open the bug report, please post the FB number here for my reference.

@sunil.jakhar Thank you so much for that! I'll make sure the issue gets routed to the correct team this morning.

You can see the status of your feedback in Feedback Assistant. There, you can track if the report is still being investigated, has a potential identifiable fix, or has been resolved in another way. The status appears beside the label "Resolution." We're unable to share any updates on specific reports on the forums.

For more details on when you'll see updates to your report, please see What to expect after submission.

@DTS Engineer Old apple documentation reference The old documentation clearly mentioned that you needed to request this entitlement. However, the current Apple documentation no longer includes this information. Does this mean the requirement has been changed? Now, we do not need to raise a request; we just need to enable the capability under Identifiers, and that should be sufficient. However, FB does not make sense to me, so you can still confirm it.

By the way, there is no update on FB yet.

@sunil.jakhar It seems like the documentation is out to date to me, I routed your bug to the correct team for them to change the documentation or to clarify the issue as, when I try to look on the entitlement I do not see that one any more. So we should have the documentation explaining it is required or not or there is another process in place.

Please keep an eye on that FB number and let's see the answer from all the teams about the entitlement.

Thanks
