Hi, I'm relatively new to iOS development and kindly ask for some feedback on a strategy to achieve this desired behavior in my app.
My Question:
What would be the best strategy for sound effect playback when an app is in the background with precise timing? Is this even possible?
Context:
I created a basic countdown timer app (targeting iOS 17 with Swift/SwiftUI.). Countdown sessions can last up to 30-60 mins. When the timer is started it progresses through a series of sub-intervals and plays a short sound for each one. I used AVAudioPlayer and everything works fine when the app is in the foreground. I'm considering switching to AVAudioEngine b/c precise timing is very important and the AIs tell me this would have better precision.
I'm already setting "App plays audio or streams audio/video using AirPlay" in my Plist, and have configured:
AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setCategory(.playback, mode: .default, options: .mixWithOthers)
Curiously, when testing on my iPhone 13 mini, sounds sometimes still play when the app is in the background, but not always.
What I've considered:
Background Tasks: Would they make any sense for this use-case? Seems like not if the allowed time is short & limited by the system.
Pre-scheduling all Sounds: Not sure this would even work and seems like a lot of memory would be needed (could be hundreds of intervals).
ActivityKit Alerts: works but with a ~50ms delay which is too long for my purposes.
Pre-Render all SFX to 1 large audio file: Seems like a lot of work and processing time and probably not worth it. I hope there's a better solution.
I'd really appreciate any feedback.
I have a class that I want to custom encode into JSON:

As you can see, I calculate the double form of the declination when I decode a JSON file containing the data. What I want to do now is ENCODE the class back out as a single string.
Currently the standard JSON encode in Swift produces the following:

what I want to produce is:
declination:"+18:15:50.00"
How can I easily do that? I've read up about custom encoders and such, and I get confused about the containers and what keys are being used. I think there might be a simple answer where I could just code:

But experienced Swift developers will immediately see that won't work. Should I do JSONSerialization instead? Can I just write a toString() extension and have JSON pick that up?

I’m working with Swift and ran into an issue when using the contains(_:) method on an array. The following code works fine:
let result = ["hello", "world"].contains(Optional("hello")) // ✅ Works fine
But when I try to use the same contains method with the array declared in a separate variable, I get a compile-time error:

let result = stringArray.contains(Optional("hello")) // ❌ Compile-time error
Both examples seem conceptually similar, but the second one causes a compile-time error, while the first one works fine.
I understand that when comparing an optional value (Optional("hello")) with a non-optional value ("hello"), Swift automatically promotes the non-optional value to an optional (i.e., "hello" becomes Optional("hello")).

Hey team I'm facing an issue where startDate is 1 January 2025 and endDate is 31 March 2025 between this 2 dates is 90 days, but on my code is being taken as 89 days
I've seen the math of the code excludes the first partial day (from midnight to 06:00) on 2025-01-01, which results in 89 full days instead of 90 days.

What's interesting:
This crash only happens when the tuple contains a String ((dim: Int, key: String))
If I change the tuple type to use two Int values ((dim: Int, key: Int)), the crash does not occur
My Questions:
Why does mutating an array of tuples containing a String crash when accessed from multiple threads?
Why is the crash avoided when the tuple contains only primitive types like Int?
Is there an underlying memory management issue with value types containing reference types like String?
Any explanation about this behavior and best practices for thread-safe mutation of such arrays would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone.
macOS, IOBluetooth framework.
My goal is to create a temporary SDP service. According to the documentation, by default a temporary service is created (aka Persistent = NO), which is deleted after the application is closed.
The documentation also mentions the IOBluetoothRemoveServiceWithRecordHandle function for forced removal of the service. This function is deprecated and is currently unavailable. I guesse that it has been replaced by the IOBluetoothSDPServiceRecord.removeServiceRecord method.
The essence of the problem is that the server is not deleted either using removeServiceRecord or even after app closing.
That is, if you create several services and try to delete them, they will remain alive. Only turning Bluetooth off and on in the OS helps.
I tested all versions of macOS starting with Monteray. The same behavior.

decidePolicyFor is an optional method - so if signature 'mismatches' - there will be no warning on not-implementing the delegate method.
How do we catch or diagnose irregularities like this? Is it something @preconcurrency import WebKit should be ensuring and it is not?
Is this delegate mismatch a bug on swift side or something we should be taking care of while migrating? If it is on us, how do we diagnose these potential mismatches?

This seems like this should be acceptable. I would expect a Publisher to be thread safe, and as long as the Output is a value type things should be fine.
I have been getting random EXC_BAD_ACCESS errors when using this approach. But turning on the address sanitizer causes these crashes to go away. I know that isn't very specific but I wanted to start by seeing if this type of pattern is ok to do.
I've narrowed down my question after many rabbit holes - how can C++ code open any view in Swift. I can call functions in swift from C++ (works great), but not async or main actor (or actor at all) functions. And if I'm not mistaken all views are actors if not main actors? When calling from C+ I think its necessary that the first view be the main actor?
I've implemented the code from the WWDC23 C++ interop video (Zoe's image picker) where I made a view in a struct, and just want to call it and let the view do the work.
The compiler immediately gives me 'cannot expose main actors to C++'. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't this block the opening of any kind of swift view from C++? Hopefully I'm missing something obvious, which is likely :)
In Zoe's code was his entry point into the program still Swift and not actually C++ app?

We are Java application developers and we have a question regarding camera access via WebRTC on iPadOS. Specifically, on iPadOS 17.1, we are encountering an issue when trying to access the camera via the WKWebView API in the Chrome browser, where an error occurs and the camera capture fails. Our investigation suggests that device access through the navigator.mediaDevices property via the WKWebView API may not work in Chrome. However, it works as expected in the Safari browser, leading us to wonder if this is a Chrome-specific limitation, or if it's due to an iPadOS setting or specification.
At this point, we are unsure if this issue is related to the WKWebView and WebRTC specifications on iPadOS 17.1, or if there are specific limitations in Chrome. Hi I'm new here - I'm trying to learn Swift and SwiftUI.
Tried on PluralSight and Udemy but they have been outdated and thus hard to follow.
So after finding Apples own guides I felt relieved and happy, but now I'm stuck again.
After they've updated Xcode to use #Preview instead of PreviewProvider it's hard to follow along on their tutorial.
Does anyone know of good resources to study SwiftUI? Or know if apple plan to update their tutorials any time soon?

I'm primarily an AppleScript writer and only a novice programmer, using ChatGPT to help me with the legwork. It has helped me to write a functioning app that builds a menu structure based on the scripts I have in the Scripts directory used in the script menu and then runs the applescripts. When I distribute the app to my desktop and run it, the scripts that access other apps, like InDesign will cause it to launch, but not actually do anything. I included the ids for each app in the entitlements dictionary and have given the app full disk access in system settings, but it's not functioning as I'd expect.
I know there are apps like Alfred that allow you to run scripts from a keystroke, but I'm building this for others I work with so they can also access info about each script, what it does, and how to use it from the menu, as well as key commands to run them.
Not sure what else to say, but if this sounds like a simple fix to anyone, please let me know.

I've been struggling for a few days with this really weird behaviour.
We made an app for our e-commerce website and found out that a part of the product page is missing.
For any reason, the header and first blocks of the page and footer are displayed, but then a massive part of the content is missing. This content is not loaded through ajax; that's why I don't understand why it's not displayed.
You can see here 2 screenshots of what the page should look like and what the page looks like with WKWebView.
I've been inspecting this with Safari; there isn't any blocking error in the console, and html elements are just empty. There is the div with class row and nothing in it.
The same website is working perfectly with native Android Webview.
If anyone has any clue to find out what's going wrong

Hello Im having an error in swiftUI project of mine. I use fullscreencover to navigate through views. Normally it s been working but one point it doesn't. I go through MainMenu -> SomeOtherView -> GameView -> AfterGameView -> SomeOtherView -> MainMenu. When it comes to mainmenu at last, it s showing main menu for a glimpse of a look and then goes back to GameView. In console an error took my notice.

The delegate is already a UITextFieldDelegate, but when you click on the error, it returns 7 instances of:

This doesn't give an error in Xcode 16. Is this an Xcode 26 bug?
My framework has private Objective-C API that is only used within the framework. It should not be exposed in the public interface (so it shouldn't be imported in the umbrella header).
To expose this API to Swift that's within the framework only the documentation seems to indicate that this needs to be imported in the umbrella header?
Import Code Within a Framework Target
To use the Objective-C declarations in files in the same framework target as your Swift code, configure an umbrella header as follows:
1.Under Build Settings, in Packaging, make sure the Defines Module setting for the framework target is set to Yes.
2.In the umbrella header, import every Objective-C header you want to expose to Swift.
Swift sees every header you expose publicly in your umbrella header. The contents of the Objective-C files in that framework are automatically available from any Swift file within that framework target, with no import statements. Use classes and other declarations from your Objective-C code with the same Swift syntax you use for system classes.
I would imagine that there must be a way to do this?
