Received the "Profile for Dolby Vision MUST be Profile 5 or 10" error for the channel that has only dolby vision profile 5
While validating a Dolby Vision Profile 5 playlist in CMAF format (with segments in MP4), the Media Stream Validator reported the following error in the MUXT-FIX-ISSUES list: However, the playlist correctly specifies Dolby Vision Profile 5 in both the EXT-X-STREAM-INF and EXT-X-I-STREAM-INF tags. Why is this error not reported when using a playlist with TS segments instead of CMAF (MP4)?

SpeechTranscriber extremely slow (14+ seconds) despite proper locale allocation and optimization
Using the official SwiftTranscriptionSampleApp from WWDC 2025, speech transcription takes 14+ seconds from audio input to first result, making it unusable for real-time applications. Environment iOS: 26.0 Beta Xcode: Beta 5 Device: iPhone 16 pro Sample App: Official Apple SwiftTranscriptionSampleApp from WWDC 2025 Configuration Tested Locale: en-US (properly allocated with AssetInventory.allocate(locale:)) and es-ES Setup: All optimizations applied (preheating, high priority, model retention) I started testing in my own app to replace SFSpeech API and include speech detection but after long fights with documentation (this part is quite terrible TBH) I tested the example (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/speech/bringing-advanced-speech-to-text-capabilities-to-your-app) and saw same results. I added some logs to check the specific time: 🎙️ [20:30:41.532] ✅ Analyzer started successfully - ready to receive audio! 🎙️ [20:30:41.532] Listening for transcription results... 🎙️ [20:30:56.342] 🚀 FIRST TRANSCRIPTION RESULT after 14.810s: 'Hello' (isFinal: false) Questions Is this expected performance for iOS 26 Beta, because old SFSpeech is far faster? Are there additional optimization steps for SpeechTranscriber? Should we expect significant performance improvements in later betas?

[CoreImage] OS 26 breaks Metal kernels for CIFilters

Microphone Recording interrupts when phone ringing
I'm developing an iOS app that requires continuous audio recording. Currently, when a phone call comes in, the AVAudioSession is interrupted and recording stops completely during the ringing phase. While I understand recording should stop if the call is answered, my app needs to continue recording while the phone is merely ringing. I've observed that Apple's Voice Memos app maintains recording during incoming call rings. This indicates the hardware and iOS are capable of supporting this functionality. Request Please advise on any available AVAudioSession configurations or APIs that would allow my app to: Continue recording during an incoming call ring Only stop recording if/when the call is actually answered Impact This interruption significantly impacts the user experience and core functionality of my app. Workarounds like asking users to enable airplane mode are impractical and create a poor user experience. Questions Is there an approved way to maintain microphone access during call rings? If not currently possible, could this capability be considered for addition to a future iOS SDK? Are there any interim solutions or best practices Apple recommends for this use case? Thank you for your help. Significant Uptick in AVCaptureSessionWasInterrupted (Reason 4) Leading to Camera Black Screen and AVError Code -11803
In the latest production release of our iOS app (deployed via the App Store), we’ve observed a significant increase in AVCaptureSessionWasInterrupted notifications where the interruption reason has a rawValue of 4. The session does not automatically recover, even after returning from background or deleting/reinstalling the app. An employee ran into this and was able to get a recording. We see the below error when attempting to take photos. "Error Domain=AVFoundationErrorDomain Code=-11803 \"Cannot Record\" UserInfo={AVErrorRecordingFailureDomainKey=3, NSLocalizedDescription=Cannot Record, NSLocalizedRecoverySuggestion=Try recording again.}", } This interruption causes the camera preview to remain black, and any attempt to capture an image results in a failure with the following error: Some questions from our team: What common system conditions or foreground app behaviors can cause .videoDeviceNotAvailableWithMultipleForegroundApps (reason 4) to become persistent? Our teams under is under the impression the interruption reason 4 is mostly associated with iPad and PiP, but neither of these are true in the logs we see. Is manual recovery of the session required? Is there a recommended strategy to detect that the session is unrecoverable and gracefully notify the user or rebuild the session? Is there an instrument(s) in XCode you would recommend when trying to evaluate the increase in reason 4? Best, Ben

Why Does WebView Audio Get Quiet During RTC Calls? (AVAudioSession Analysis)
I developed an educational app that implements audio-video communication through RTC, while using WebView to display course materials during classes. However, some users are experiencing an issue where the audio playback from WebView is very quiet. I've checked that the AVAudioSessionCategory is set by RTC to AVAudioSessionCategoryPlayAndRecord, and the AVAudioSessionCategoryOption also includes AVAudioSessionCategoryOptionMixWithOthers. What could be causing the WebView audio to be suppressed, and how can this be resolved?

any app shows a black square instead of the camera picture
Hi! I am making an app for Apple Vision pro (VisionOS 2.5) that is scanning the surroundings and recognises all the texts around you. I tried to use the AVCaptureSession library, but when I run the app from xcode on the real AVP device, the camera is not accessible. I enabled the camera access in my Info.plist: NSCameraUsageDescription Used for live text recognition and I checked camera settings in the AVP, there are no restrictions. However I have always a black square with a crossed camera icon displayed instead of the image from the camera. I tried a couple of different apps from Github using the AVCaptureSession and they all display the black square instead of the picture. What can be wrong with the camera?

Race issue - Custom AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate cannot work with EXT-X-SESSION-KEY
TL;DR How to solve possible racing issue of EXT-X-SESSION-KEY request and encrypted media segment request? I'm having trouble using custom AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate with video manifest containing VideoProtectionKey(VPK). My master manifest contains rendition manifest url and VPK url. When not using custom resource delegate, everything works fine. My custom resource delegate is implemented in way where it first append prefix to scheme of the master manifest url before creating the asset. And during handling master manifest, it puts back original scheme, make the request, modify the scheme for rendition manifest url in the response content by appending the same prefix again, so that rendition manifest request also goes into custom resource loader delegate. Same goes for VPK request. The AES-128 key is stored in memory within custom resource loader delegate object. So far so good. The VPK is requested before segment request. But the problem comes where the media segment requests happen. The media segment request url from rendition manifest goes into custom resource loader as well and those are encrypted. I can see segment request finish first then the related VPK requests kick in after a few seconds. The previous VPK value is cached in memory so it is not network causing the delay but some mechanism that I'm not aware of causing this. So could anyone tell me what would be the proper way of handling this situation? The native library is handling it well so I just want to know how. Thanks in advance!

PHLivePhotoEditingContext.saveLivePhoto results in AVFoundation error -11800 "The operation could not be completed" reason An unknown error occurred (-12815)
When trying to edit some Live Photos, calling PHLivePhotoEditingContext.saveLivePhoto results in the following error: Error Domain=AVFoundationErrorDomain Code=-11800 "The operation could not be completed" UserInfo={NSLocalizedFailureReason=An unknown error occurred (-12815), NSLocalizedDescription=The operation could not be completed, NSUnderlyingError=0x300d05380 {Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-12815 "(null)"}} I was able to replicate it on my device by taking a new Live Photo. Not sure what's wrong with that one specifically, not all Live Photos replicate the issue. I've submitted FB15880825 with a sysdiagnose and a Photos Diagnostics as well. Any ideas what's going on here? It's impacting multiple customers. Thanks!

Making DataScannerViewController work in the Simulator
Before you post —Camera doesn't work on the Simulator— that's no longer true. I've made a solution that makes the Simulator believe there's an actual hardware device connected, allowing users to stream the macOS camera to the iOS Simulator (see for more info RocketSim's documentation: https://docs.rocketsim.app/features/hzQMSrSga7BGWvxdNVdwYs/simulator-camera-support/58tQ5jvevLNSnyUEA7VgAv) Now, it works for VNDocumentCameraViewController, but when I try opening DataScannerViewController, I directly run into: Failed to start scanning: The operation couldn’t be completed. (VisionKit.DataScannerViewController.ScanningUnavailable error 0.) My question: How does this view controller determine whether scanning is available? Is there a certain capability the available AVCaptureDevice's need to support maybe? Any direction would be helpful for me to make this work for developers, making them build apps faster!

Graceful shutdown during background audio playback.
Hello. My team and I think we have an issue where our app is asked to gracefully shutdown with a following SIGTERM. As we’ve learned, this is normally not an issue. However, it seems to also be happening while our app (an audio streamer) is actively playing in the background. From our perspective, starting playback is indicating strong user intent. We understand that there can be extreme circumstances where the background audio needs to be killed, but should it be considered part of normal operation? We hope that’s not the case. All we see in the logs is the graceful shutdown request. We can say with high certainty that it’s happening though, as we know that playback is running within 0.5 seconds of the crash, without any other tracked user interaction. Can you verify if this is intended behavior, and if there’s something we can do about it from our end. From our logs it doesn’t look to be related to either memory usage within the app, or the system as a whole. Best, John

EXT-X-DISCONTINUITY misalignment
We encounter issue with avplayer in case of EXT-X-DISCONTINUITY misalignment between audio and video produced after insertion of gaps. The initial objective is to introduce an EXT-X-DISCONTINUITY in audio playlist after some missing segments (EXT-X-GAP) which durations are aligned to video segments durations, to handle irregular audio durations. Please find below an example of corresponding video and audio playlists: video: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:7 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:872524632 #EXT-X-INDEPENDENT-SEGMENTS #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:2 #USP-X-TIMESTAMP-MAP:MPEGTS=7096045027,LOCAL=2025-05-09T12:38:32.369100Z #EXT-X-MAP:URI="hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200.m4s" #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2025-05-09T12:38:32.369111Z #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524632.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524633.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524634.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524635.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524636.m4s ## Media sequence discontinuity #EXT-X-GAP #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524637.m4s ## Media sequence discontinuity #EXT-X-GAP #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524638.m4s #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2025-05-09T12:38:46.383111Z #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524639.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524640.m4s audio: EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:7 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:872524632 #EXT-X-INDEPENDENT-SEGMENTS #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:2 #USP-X-TIMESTAMP-MAP:MPEGTS=7096045867,LOCAL=2025-05-09T12:38:32.378400Z #EXT-X-MAP:URI="hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800.m4s" #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2025-05-09T12:38:32.378444Z #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524632.m4s #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524633.m4s #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524634.m4s #EXTINF:1.984, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524635.m4s #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524636.m4s ## Media sequence discontinuity #EXT-X-GAP #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524637.m4s ## Media sequence discontinuity #EXT-X-GAP #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524638.m4s #EXT-X-DISCONTINUITY #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2025-05-09T12:38:46.778444Z #EXTINF:1.6213, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524639.m4s #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524640.m4s In this case playback is broken with avplayer. Airplay selection not working
I'm trying to implement airplay into my app. I can successfully playback sound and trigger the airplay selector sheet. If the target device is a Bluetooth only device I can connect with no problem and stream the audio to the Bluetooth device, but if the audio device is a airplay specific device like a HomePod or an Apple TV when I select it, I get a spinning icon, indicating that it is trying to connect, and eventually it times out and stops without connecting. I don't believe it is an AirPlay audio issue because if I go to a different app, for example a podcast app and select my HomePods for output, and then switch back to my app. My audio will correctly stream to the HomePod. Not only that, I have it so that my icon will change color to indicate that it is connected via airplay and it is correctly indicating that it is connected via AirPlay. But I cannot then disconnect it using the Airplay selector. The issue appears to be in the AirPlay selection side, which I have spent several days attempting to troubleshoot mostly using ChatGPT to suggest code different than what I have to maybe work around the issue. Mostly it is focused on the audio player section, but it doesn't seem like that is really the route that is the problem.

Broadcast Upload Extension - Screen Sharing Fails to Start After Countdown (No Errors Logged)
Hello everyone, I'm working on implementing a screen sharing feature using RPSystemBroadcastPickerView and a Broadcast Upload Extension to share the entire app screen in an iOS application. The Broadcast Upload Extension is set up following Apple's ReplayKit guidelines. However, I’m encountering an issue during the broadcast startup sequence: ❗ Problem Description The Screen Broadcast UI appears as expected I tap “Start Broadcast” The countdown (3 → 2 → 1) completes Then it immediately reverts to the "Start Broadcast" screen, and screen sharing does not begin No error messages are displayed None of the extension lifecycle methods (broadcastStarted(withSetupInfo:), processSampleBuffer, etc.) are called There are no logs or crash reports, neither in the main app nor in the extension ✅ What Has Been Verified Info.plist of the Broadcast Upload Extension includes: NSExtensionPointIdentifier = com.apple.broadcast-services-upload NSExtensionPrincipalClass set correctly RPBroadcastProcessMode = RPBroadcastProcessModeSampleBuffer preferredExtension is set properly to the extension’s bundle identifier Extension is listed in the main app's build settings under "Frameworks, Libraries, and Embedded Content" ⚠️ Additional Concern We noticed that in Xcode (latest version), the Broadcast Upload Extension is listed under "Embedded Frameworks" with the setting "Embed Without Signing", and there is no option to change it to "Embed & Sign". We're wondering if this could be the reason the extension fails to launch correctly at runtime, despite being detected by the broadcast picker. ❓ Questions Has anyone faced similar issues where the broadcast never starts despite correct setup? Could the "Embed Without Signing" be causing the system to silently cancel or ignore the extension at runtime? Are there any provisioning profile or entitlement requirements specific to Broadcast Upload Extensions that might trigger this behavior silently? Any insights, suggestions, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

WideCamera consumes more CPU that telePhotoCamera
I have beet taking images from the iOS video camera feed and have encountered an issue. When you take images form the wideCamera this consumes about half the phone's CPU. The same is not the case when you take images from the telephotoCamera video stream. Is there a way of disabling the extra processing that is being done?

Apple Music web player will not work on wkwebview web browser or electron chromium browser.
Hello, I'm trying to create a webbrowser but currently when signed into apple music webplayer I get the following message when I attempt to play on any versions of my webbrowser: Not available on the web You can listen to this in the Apple Music app. Is there a way to setup DRM (assuming this is the issue) with apple to allow my webbrowser to play this content? I believe Apple TV is also affected. Thank you ahead of time.

Best, John

How to show animated album artwork in iOS 26?
I have an app that displays artwork via MPMediaItem.artwork, requesting an image with a specific size. How do I get a media item's MPMediaItemAnimatedArtwork, and how to get the preview image and video to display to the user?

EXT-X-DISCONTINUITY misalignment
We encounter issue with avplayer in case of EXT-X-DISCONTINUITY misalignment between audio and video produced after insertion of gaps. The initial objective is to introduce an EXT-X-DISCONTINUITY in audio playlist after some missing segments (EXT-X-GAP) which durations are aligned to video segments durations, to handle irregular audio durations. Please find below an example of corresponding video and audio playlists: video: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:7 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:872524632 #EXT-X-INDEPENDENT-SEGMENTS #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:2 #USP-X-TIMESTAMP-MAP:MPEGTS=7096045027,LOCAL=2025-05-09T12:38:32.369100Z #EXT-X-MAP:URI="hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200.m4s" #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2025-05-09T12:38:32.369111Z #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524632.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524633.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524634.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524635.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524636.m4s ## Media sequence discontinuity #EXT-X-GAP #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524637.m4s ## Media sequence discontinuity #EXT-X-GAP #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524638.m4s #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2025-05-09T12:38:46.383111Z #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524639.m4s #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-video=979200-872524640.m4s audio: EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:7 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:872524632 #EXT-X-INDEPENDENT-SEGMENTS #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:2 #USP-X-TIMESTAMP-MAP:MPEGTS=7096045867,LOCAL=2025-05-09T12:38:32.378400Z #EXT-X-MAP:URI="hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800.m4s" #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2025-05-09T12:38:32.378444Z #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524632.m4s #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524633.m4s #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524634.m4s #EXTINF:1.984, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524635.m4s #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524636.m4s ## Media sequence discontinuity #EXT-X-GAP #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524637.m4s ## Media sequence discontinuity #EXT-X-GAP #EXTINF:2.002, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524638.m4s #EXT-X-DISCONTINUITY #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2025-05-09T12:38:46.778444Z #EXTINF:1.6213, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524639.m4s #EXTINF:2.0053, no desc hls/StreamingBasic-audio_99500_eng=98800-872524640.m4s In this case playback is broken with avplayer. Is it conformed to Http Live Streaming? Is it an avplayer bug? What are the guidelines to handle such gaps?

How to display custom UI in Picture-in-Picture after iOS 15
After Picture-in-Picture is opened on the camera interface, the custom UI cannot be displayed. Is there any way to make the custom UI visible? If custom UI cannot be displayed, how do teleprompter-type apps in the store manage to show custom teleprompter text within the camera?
