NonLiDAR Photogrammetry
Hello! In iOS1.7.5, photogrammetry sessions cannot be performed on iPhones without LiDAR, but I don't think there is much difference in GPU performance between those with and without LiDAR. For example, the chips installed in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 are the same A16 Bionic, and I think the GPU performance is also the same. Despite this, photogrammetry can be performed on the iPhone 14 Pro but not on the iPhone 15. Why is this? In fact, we have confirmed that if you transfer images taken with an iPhone 16 without LiDAR to an iPhone 16 Pro and run a photogrammetry session using those images, a 3D model can be generated. Also, will photogrammetry be able to be performed on high-performance iPhones without LiDAR in the future?

Capture session interrupted randomly
We are facing a strange issue where a small portion of our large userbase can not start the capture session in our app, as it gets interrupted with the following reason: AVCaptureSessionInterruptionReasonVideoDeviceNotAvailableWithMultipleForegroundApps Our users are all from iPhones, no one is using an iPad. Just to be sure we have set session.isMultitaskingCameraAccessEnabled = true but it does not seem to make any difference. Another weird scenario we are seeing on an even smaller number of users is that the following call: AVCaptureDevice.default(.builtInWideAngleCamera, for: .video, position: .back) returns nil. A quick look at our error reports show this happening on iPhone XR, 13 and 14 models. They should all support this device type. Any help on investigating these issue would be greatly appreciated!

FairPlay HLS Downloaded Asset Fails to Play on First Attempt When Offline, Works on Retry
Hello, We're seeing an intermittent issue when playing back FairPlay-protected HLS downloads while the device is offline. Assets are downloaded using AVAggregateAssetDownloadTask with FairPlay protection. After download, asset.assetCache.isPlayableOffline == true. On first playback attempt (offline), ~8% of downloads fail. Retrying playback always works. We recreate the asset and player on each attempt. MIDI output form Standalone MIDI Processor Demo App to DAW
I am trying to get MIDI output from the AU Host demo app using the recent MIDI processor example. The processor works correctly in Logic Pro, but I cannot send MIDI from the AUv3 extension in standalone mode using the default host app to another program (e.g., Ableton). The MIDI manager, which is part of the standalone host app, works fine, and I can send MIDI using it directly—Ableton receives it without issues. I have already set the midiOutputNames in the extension, and the midiOutBlock is mapped. However, the MIDI data from the AUv3 extension does not reach Ableton in standalone mode. I suspect the issue is that midiOutBlock might never be called in the plugin, or perhaps an input to the plugin is missing, which prevents it from sending MIDI. I am currently using the default routing. I have modified the MIDI manager such that it works well as described above. Option to Set Default Interpolation for Keyframes to “Linear” in Final Cut Pro
In Final Cut Pro, keyframes for transform parameters (such as Position, Scale, and Rotation) are automatically set to “Smooth” interpolation. This often results in undesired easing between keyframes, especially when linear motion is required. Currently, we have to manually adjust each keyframe to "Linear" using the Video Animation Editor, which can be time-consuming when working with many keyframes. Would it be possible to add an option to set the default keyframe interpolation to "Linear"—either globally in Preferences or per parameter in the Inspector? This would greatly streamline the animation workflow for many editors. Thank you for considering this request!

AVSpeechUtterance stutters in CarPlay when connected to a BT headset
We are currently working on a CarPlay navigation app and so far everything is working well except for speaking turn notifications. Our TTS implementation works fine on the phone and works fine on CarPlay if the voice is spoken over the speaker in the car. If users connect a BT headset to the car and listen through that headset, then the voice commands are chopped up / stutter. Why would users use BT headset? Well, we are working on a motorcycle app, and there are no speakers usually on a motorcycle. It sounds like the BT channel is opened and closed repeatedly for every character / word spoken. This happens on different CarPlay devices and different Bluetooth headsets, we have reports from multiple users that they find this behavior annoying and that other apps work fine. Is this a known issue? Are there possible workaround?

RealityKit/ARKit Memory Not Fully Released After AR Session Cleanup
Hi, I'm developing a SwiftUI app using RealityKit and ARKit for an AR measuring feature. I’ve noticed that after navigating away from my AR view and performing extensive cleanup (including removing all anchors/entities, pausing the ARSession, and nil-ing out all references), memory usage remains elevated and sometimes grows with repeated AR sessions. Each time I enter and exit the AR view, memory increases The memory does not return to the baseline after cleanup, even though all custom objects are deallocated. Are there best practices beyond what I’ve described to ensure all ARKit/RealityKit resources are released after an AR session?

Issue with Airplay for DRM videos
When I try to send a DRM-protected video via Airplay to an Apple TV, the license request is made twice instead of once as it normally does on iOS. We only allow one request per session for security reasons, this causes the second request to fail and the video won't play. We've tested DRM-protected videos without token usage limits and it works, but this creates a security hole in our system. Why does AVAudioRecorder show 8 kHz when iPhone hardware is 48 kHz?
Hi everyone, I’m testing audio recording on an iPhone 15 Plus using AVFoundation. SpeechTranscriber extremely slow (14+ seconds) despite proper locale allocation and optimization
Using the official SwiftTranscriptionSampleApp from WWDC 2025, speech transcription takes 14+ seconds from audio input to first result, making it unusable for real-time applications. Environment iOS: 26.0 Beta Xcode: Beta 5 Device: iPhone 16 pro Sample App: Official Apple SwiftTranscriptionSampleApp from WWDC 2025 Configuration Tested Locale: en-US (properly allocated with AssetInventory.allocate(locale:)) and es-ES Setup: All optimizations applied (preheating, high priority, model retention) I started testing in my own app to replace SFSpeech API and include speech detection but after long fights with documentation (this part is quite terrible TBH) I tested the example (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/speech/bringing-advanced-speech-to-text-capabilities-to-your-app) and saw same results. Essentials of macOS to read and write mp3 and mp4 audio files
Hi, On macOS I used to open MP3 and MP4 files with ExtAudioFile. For a few years it doesn't work anymore. So I decided to try different macOS API using the AudioFileID of AudioToolbox framework. Unexpected AVAudioSession behavior after iOS 18.5 causing audio loss in VoIP calls
After updating to iOS 18.5, we’ve observed that outgoing audio from our app intermittently stops being transmitted during VoIP calls using AVAudioSession configured with .playAndRecord and .voiceChat. The session is set active without errors, and interruptions are handled correctly, yet audio capture suddenly ceases mid-call. This was not observed in earlier iOS versions (≤ 18.4). Impact on iOS Due to Image Policy Changes with Android Target SDK 34
As the image access policy has changed with Android targeting SDK 34, I’m planning to update the way our app accesses photos. We are using the react-native-image-picker library to access images. On Android, the system no longer prompts the user for image access permissions, but on iOS, permission requests still appear. Since Android no longer requires explicit permissions, I’ve removed the permission request logic for Android. In this case, is it also safe to remove the permission request for iOS? In our app, photo access is only used for changing the user profile picture and attaching images when writing a post on the bulletin board. Are there any limitations or considerations for this kind of usage?

AVAudioSession automatically sets the tablet audio volume to 50% when recording audio.
Environment→ ・Device: iPad 10th generation ・OS:**iOS18.3.2 I'm using AVAudioSession to record sound in my application. But I recently came to realize that when the app starts a recording session on a tablet, OS automatically sets the tablet volume to 50% and when after recording ends, it doesn't change back to the previous volume level before starting the recording. So I would like to know whether this is an OS default behavior or a bug? If it's a default behavior, I much appreciate if I can get a link to the documentation.

Sudden brightness/contrast shifts in videos across multiple apps on iPhone
Hi, I’ve been experiencing a strange issue with video playback on my iPhone. While watching videos, the image will suddenly shift it becomes more greyish, then sometimes briefly goes black, and then returns to normal bright quality. This can happen multiple times during a single video. This is not limited to the Photos app. I’ve seen it happen: In the Photos app when playing videos I recorded myself In Snapchat when watching videos sent by others Occasionally in other social media apps as well Additional details: HDR Video is turned off Apple ProRes is turned off Tried both 4K 60fps and 4K 30fps Camera format set to “Most Compatible” Low Power Mode is off Issue happens whether the phone is cool or warm Doesn’t seem related to the video file itself the same file exported to another device looks fine all the way through These exact same videos play back completely normally on my iPad with no brightness or contrast shifts at all I’m currently on the iOS 17 public beta, but this issue was happening before I installed the beta as well, so it’s not beta-specific It almost feels like the display or system is switching between different brightness/contrast profiles mid playback, regardless of the app. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a way to disable this behavior so the brightness and color stay consistent during video playback? Capture session interrupted randomly
We are facing a strange issue where a small portion of our large userbase can not start the capture session in our app, as it gets interrupted with the following reason: AVCaptureSessionInterruptionReasonVideoDeviceNotAvailableWithMultipleForegroundApps Our users are all from iPhones, no one is using an iPad. Just to be sure we have set session.isMultitaskingCameraAccessEnabled = true but it does not seem to make any difference. Another weird scenario we are seeing on an even smaller number of users is that the following call: AVCaptureDevice.default(.builtInWideAngleCamera, for: .video, position: .back) returns nil. A quick look at our error reports show this happening on iPhone XR, 13 and 14 models. They should all support this device type. Any help on investigating these issue would be greatly appreciated!

FairPlay HLS Downloaded Asset Fails to Play on First Attempt When Offline, Works on Retry
Hello, We're seeing an intermittent issue when playing back FairPlay-protected HLS downloads while the device is offline. Assets are downloaded using AVAggregateAssetDownloadTask with FairPlay protection. After download, asset.assetCache.isPlayableOffline == true. On first playback attempt (offline), ~8% of downloads fail. Retrying playback always works. We recreate the asset and player on each attempt. MIDI output form Standalone MIDI Processor Demo App to DAW
I am trying to get MIDI output from the AU Host demo app using the recent MIDI processor example. The processor works correctly in Logic Pro, but I cannot send MIDI from the AUv3 extension in standalone mode using the default host app to another program (e.g., Ableton). The MIDI manager, which is part of the standalone host app, works fine, and I can send MIDI using it directly—Ableton receives it without issues. I have already set the midiOutputNames in the extension, and the midiOutBlock is mapped. However, the MIDI data from the AUv3 extension does not reach Ableton in standalone mode. I suspect the issue is that midiOutBlock might never be called in the plugin, or perhaps an input to the plugin is missing, which prevents it from sending MIDI. I am currently using the default routing. I have modified the MIDI manager such that it works well as described above. Option to Set Default Interpolation for Keyframes to “Linear” in Final Cut Pro
In Final Cut Pro, keyframes for transform parameters (such as Position, Scale, and Rotation) are automatically set to “Smooth” interpolation. This often results in undesired easing between keyframes, especially when linear motion is required. Currently, we have to manually adjust each keyframe to "Linear" using the Video Animation Editor, which can be time-consuming when working with many keyframes. Would it be possible to add an option to set the default keyframe interpolation to "Linear"—either globally in Preferences or per parameter in the Inspector? AVSpeechUtterance stutters in CarPlay when connected to a BT headset
We are currently working on a CarPlay navigation app and so far everything is working well except for speaking turn notifications. Our TTS implementation works fine on the phone and works fine on CarPlay if the voice is spoken over the speaker in the car. If users connect a BT headset to the car and listen through that headset, then the voice commands are chopped up / stutter. Why would users use BT headset? Well, we are working on a motorcycle app, and there are no speakers usually on a motorcycle. It sounds like the BT channel is opened and closed repeatedly for every character / word spoken. This happens on different CarPlay devices and different Bluetooth headsets, we have reports from multiple users that they find this behavior annoying and that other apps work fine. Is this a known issue? Are there possible workaround?

RealityKit/ARKit Memory Not Fully Released After AR Session Cleanup
Hi, I'm developing a SwiftUI app using RealityKit and ARKit for an AR measuring feature. I’ve noticed that after navigating away from my AR view and performing extensive cleanup (including removing all anchors/entities, pausing the ARSession, and nil-ing out all references), memory usage remains elevated and sometimes grows with repeated AR sessions. Each time I enter and exit the AR view, memory increases The memory does not return to the baseline after cleanup, even though all custom objects are deallocated. Are there best practices beyond what I’ve described to ensure all ARKit/RealityKit resources are released after an AR session?

Issue with Airplay for DRM videos
When I try to send a DRM-protected video via Airplay to an Apple TV, the license request is made twice instead of once as it normally does on iOS. We only allow one request per session for security reasons, this causes the second request to fail and the video won't play. We've tested DRM-protected videos without token usage limits and it works, but this creates a security hole in our system. Regarding the issue of obtaining input channels for aggregated devices
I found that the aggregated device correctly obtains input channels in the standard microphone mode. However, in voice isolation mode, it only retrieves channels from the first sub-device in the aggregated device's list. If I want to properly obtain channel information in voice isolation mode, how should I do it?

Why does AVAudioRecorder show 8 kHz when iPhone hardware is 48 kHz?
Hi everyone, I’m testing audio recording on an iPhone 15 Plus using AVFoundation. SpeechTranscriber extremely slow (14+ seconds) despite proper locale allocation and optimization
Using the official SwiftTranscriptionSampleApp from WWDC 2025, speech transcription takes 14+ seconds from audio input to first result, making it unusable for real-time applications. Environment iOS: 26.0 Beta Xcode: Beta 5 Device: iPhone 16 pro Sample App: Official Apple SwiftTranscriptionSampleApp from WWDC 2025 Configuration Tested Locale: en-US (properly allocated with AssetInventory.allocate(locale:)) and es-ES Setup: All optimizations applied (preheating, high priority, model retention) I started testing in my own app to replace SFSpeech API and include speech detection but after long fights with documentation (this part is quite terrible TBH) I tested the example (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/speech/bringing-advanced-speech-to-text-capabilities-to-your-app) and saw same results. Impact on iOS Due to Image Policy Changes with Android Target SDK 34
As the image access policy has changed with Android targeting SDK 34, I’m planning to update the way our app accesses photos. We are using the react-native-image-picker library to access images. On Android, the system no longer prompts the user for image access permissions, but on iOS, permission requests still appear. Since Android no longer requires explicit permissions, I’ve removed the permission request logic for Android. In this case, is it also safe to remove the permission request for iOS? In our app, photo access is only used for changing the user profile picture and attaching images when writing a post on the bulletin board. Are there any limitations or considerations for this kind of usage?

AVAudioSession automatically sets the tablet audio volume to 50% when recording audio.

But I recently came to realize that when the app starts a recording session on a tablet, OS automatically sets the tablet volume to 50% and when after recording ends, it doesn't change back to the previous volume level before starting the recording. So I would like to know whether this is an OS default behavior or a bug? If it's a default behavior, I much appreciate if I can get a link to the documentation.

This is not limited to the Photos app. I’ve seen it happen: In the Photos app when playing videos I recorded myself In Snapchat when watching videos sent by others Occasionally in other social media apps as well Additional details: HDR Video is turned off Apple ProRes is turned off Tried both 4K 60fps and 4K 30fps Camera format set to “Most Compatible” Low Power Mode is off Issue happens whether the phone is cool or warm Doesn’t seem related to the video file itself the same file exported to another device looks fine all the way through These exact same videos play back completely normally on my iPad with no brightness or contrast shifts at all I’m currently on the iOS 17 public beta, but this issue was happening before I installed the beta as well, so it’s not beta-specific It almost feels like the display or system is switching between different brightness/contrast profiles mid playback, regardless of the app. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a way to disable this behavior so the brightness and color stay consistent during video playback?
