Unexpected artist names in song table
Hi team, In the Apple Music Feed datasets, we've noticed some unexpected values in the song and album tables. The primaryartists column from either song or album may contain a "non-default" artist name such as the katakana name shown in the example below: select id, name, namedefault, primaryartists from amf_song where id = '1698723329' id | name | namedefault | primaryartists ---------------------------------------- 1698723329 | {default=California} | California | [{id=1264818718, name=チャペル・ローン}] select * from amf_artist where id = '1264818718' id | name | namedefault | namepronunciation | ---------------------------------------------- 1264818718 | {default=Chappell Roan, ja=チャペル・ローン} | Chappell Roan | {ja=チャペルローン} | Shouldn't the primaryartists column be showing the namedefault instead of the Japanese language version? When can we expect this bug to resolved? Thanks,

Repeat song listens not queryable
Hi all, I've been working on some personal programming projects and have gotten into using the Apple Music API. I'm currently looking to get a list of recent songs using the /v1/me/recent/played/tracks endpoint and it's working well. However, I know there are some songs I've listened to multiple times in a row, and those are not showing up as unique tracks when querying this endpoint. I'm only seeing a list of the different songs I've listened to lately, not a true list of the most recent plays on my account. Is this intended behavior or am I going about something incorrectly here? My query is using that endpoint & specifying the types to be only [songs]. Thanks in advance for any ideas or insight.

AudioQueueNewOutput blocks indefinitely on iOS 18.3 (hangs during creation)
Hi everyone, We’re encountering an issue where AudioQueueNewOutput blocks indefinitely and never returns, and we’re hoping to get some insight or confirmation if this is a known behavior/regression on newer iOS versions. Issue Description When triggering audio playback, we create an output AudioQueue using AudioQueueNewOutput. On some devices, the call hangs inside AudioQueueNewOutput and never returns, with no OSStatus error and no subsequent logs. This behavior is reproducible mainly on iOS 18.3. Earlier iOS versions do not show this issue under the same code path. if (audioDes) { mAudioDes.mSampleRate = audioDes->mSampleRate; mAudioDes.mBitsPerChannel = audioDes->mBitsPerChannel; mAudioDes.mChannelsPerFrame = audioDes->mChannelsPerFrame; mAudioDes.mFormatID = audioDes->mFormatID; mAudioDes.mFormatFlags = audioDes->mFormatFlags; mAudioDes.mFramesPerPacket = audioDes->mFramesPerPacket; mAudioDes.mBytesPerFrame = audioDes->mBytesPerFrame; mAudioDes.mBytesPerPacket = audioDes->mBytesPerFrame; mAudioDes.mReserved = 0; } // Create AudioQueue for output OSStatus status = AudioQueueNewOutput( &mAudioDes, AQOutputCallback, this, NULL, NULL, 0, &audioQueue ); code-block The thread blocks inside AudioQueueNewOutput, and execution never reaches the next line. Additional Notes / Observations ASBD is confirmed to be valid Standard PCM output Sample rate, channels, bytes per frame/packet all consistent Same ASBD works correctly on earlier iOS versions AudioQueue is created on a background thread Not on the main thread Not inside the AudioQueue callback On first creation, AVAudioSession may not yet be active setCategory and setActive:YES may be called shortly before creating the AudioQueue There may be a timing window where the session is still activating Issue is reported mainly on iOS 18.3 Multiple user reports point to iOS 18.3 devices Same code path works on iOS 17.x and earlier No OSStatus error is returned — the call simply never returns. Questions Is it expected that AudioQueueNewOutput can block indefinitely while waiting for AVAudioSession / audio route / HAL readiness? Have there been any behavior changes in iOS 18.3 regarding AudioQueue creation or AudioSession synchronization? Is it unsafe to call AudioQueueNewOutput before AVAudioSession is fully active on recent iOS versions? Are there recommended patterns (or delays / callbacks) to ensure AudioQueue creation does not hang? Any insight or confirmation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

macOS sample for AVAudioEngine recording with playthrough
Hi, I'm still stuck getting a basic record-with-playthrouh pipeline to work. Has anyone a sample of setting up a AVAudioEngine pipeline for recording with playthrough? Plkaythrough works with AVPlayerNode as input but not with any microphone input. The docs mention the "enabled state" of the outputNode of the engine without explaining the concept, i.e. how to enable an output. When the engine renders to and from an audio device, the AVAudioSession category and the availability of hardware determines whether an app performs output. Check the output node’s output format (specifically, the hardware format) for a nonzero sample rate and channel count to see if output is in an enabled state. Well, in my setup the output is NOT enabled, and any attempt to switch (e.g. audioEngine.outputNode.auAudioUnit.setDeviceID(deviceID) )/ attach a dedicated device / ... results in exceptions / errors

AVSpeechUtterance stutters in CarPlay when connected to a BT headset
We are currently working on a CarPlay navigation app and so far everything is working well except for speaking turn notifications. Our TTS implementation works fine on the phone and works fine on CarPlay if the voice is spoken over the speaker in the car. If users connect a BT headset to the car and listen through that headset, then the voice commands are chopped up / stutter. Why would users use BT headset? Well, we are working on a motorcycle app, and there are no speakers usually on a motorcycle. It sounds like the BT channel is opened and closed repeatedly for every character / word spoken. This happens on different CarPlay devices and different Bluetooth headsets, we have reports from multiple users that they find this behavior annoying and that other apps work fine. Is this a known issue? Are there possible workaround?

[AVFCore] IOS 26.0 EXC_BAD_ACCESS from _customCompositorShouldCancelPendingFrames
Hi, I'm working an a video editing software that lets you composite and export videos. I use a custom compositor to apply my effects etc. In my crash dashboard, I am seeing a report of an EXC_BAD_ACCESS crash from objc_msgSend. Below is the stacktrace. libobjc.A.dylib objc_msgSend libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_sync_invoke_and_complete_recurse libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_sync_f_slow [symbolication failed] libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_client_callout libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_lane_barrier_sync_invoke_and_complete AVFCore -[AVCustomVideoCompositorSession(AVCustomVideoCompositorSession_FigCallbackHandling) _customCompositorShouldCancelPendingFrames] AVFCore _customCompositorShouldCancelPendingFramesCallback MediaToolbox remoteVideoCompositor_HandleVideoCompositorClientMessage CoreMedia __figXPCConnection_CallClientMessageHandlers_block_invoke libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_call_block_and_release libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_client_callout libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_lane_serial_drain libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_lane_invoke libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_root_queue_drain_deferred_wlh libdispatch.dylib _dispatch_workloop_worker_thread libsystem_pthread.dylib _pthread_wqthread libsystem_pthread.dylib start_wqthread What stood out to me is that this is only being reported from IOS 26.0+ devices. A part of the stacktrace failed to be symbolicated [symbolication failed]. I'm 90% confident that this is Apple code, not my app's code. I cannot reproduce this locally. Is this a known issue? What are the possible root-causes, and how can I verify/eliminate them? Thanks,

AVAudioSession setActive(true) fails after phone call when app is in background
I’m seeing what appears to be an iOS audio-session issue that occurs only when a phone call happens while the app is in the background. API: AVAudioSession, AVAudioRecorder Background Modes: Audio enabled (UIBackgroundModes = audio) Category: .playAndRecord Microphone permission: granted Expected Behavior If the app is recording audio in the background and a phone call interrupts it: AVAudioSession.interruptionNotification(.began) fires Call ends AVAudioSession.interruptionNotification(.ended) fires App should be able to re-activate its audio session and resume or restart recording Apple documentation suggests this should be supported for background audio apps. Actual Behavior When the app is in the background and phone call is ended: AVAudioSession.interruptionNotification(.ended) does fire Attempting to reactivate the audio session always fails: Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=560557684 ("!int") "Session activation failed" The session appears to remain permanently “interrupted” Retrying activation (with delays) does not help Recreating AVAudioRecorder does not help Reactivation works only after the app is opened again

Clarification on SFSpeechRecognizer system alert message and service URLs for whitelisting
Hello Apple Engineers, I am developing a feature related to SpeechRecognizer (import Speech), and I have two questions: After adding the NSSpeechRecognitionUsageDescription key in my Info.plist, when I initialize an SFSpeechRecognizer instance, the system shows an authorization alert. The alert contains a pre-defined message from Apple: “Speech data from this app will be sent to Apple to process your requests. This will also help Apple improve its speech recognition technology.” Is it possible to remove or customize this message? My app runs in a network environment with a whitelist. I need to know which URL the SFSpeechRecognizer instance connects to, and which port it uses, so that I can add it to the whitelist. Thank you very much for your support! Best regards, Yu Cheng

Process to request the restricted entitlement behind “DJ with Apple Music” (tempo control / time-stretch on Apple Music streams)?
Hi, I’m an iOS developer building an app with an use case that needs advanced playback on Apple Music subscription streams, specifically: • Real-time tempo change (BPM) during playback — i.e., time-stretch with key-lock, not just crossfade. • Beat-matched transitions between tracks. From what I can tell, this capability seems to exist only for approved partners and isn’t available through public MusicKit. Question: What’s the official request path to be evaluated for that restricted partner entitlement (application form, questionnaire, NDA, or internal team/BD contact)? If the entitlement identifier is internal, how can I get my account routed to the right Apple Music team? For reference, publicly announced partners include Algoriddim djay, Serato DJ Pro, rekordbox (AlphaTheta), and Engine DJ—all of which appear to implement mixing features that imply advanced playback (tempo/beat-matching) on Apple Music content. I’d prefer not to share product details publicly for the moment and can provide specifics privately if needed. Thanks in advance!

Apple Music treats asian artists with romanized names as two different names
Hello, I'm trying to write a shortcut using Toolbox Pro that gets triggered by an accessibility trigger and then favorites the currently playing song. It's working pretty well, but I noticed that for some artists, especially asian ones, it simply doesn't work. While debugging, I noticed that the tool uses the same song ID, artist ID, everything as it should to search for the song and favorite it. However, I noticed that Apple Music treats artists with romanized names as two separate artists! https://music.apple.com/br/artist/王菲/41760704 https://music.apple.com/br/artist/faye-wong/41760704?l=en-GB You can see that the ID is the same (41760704). It seems that, when I search for the artist, the first artist (王菲) returns, so that when I open URLs on the web for the artist I can see a star next to the song name, meaning that it got a like. However, the romanized artist (faye-wong) doesn't have a like on the same song. This is very weird, right?

Can I Fade Out Track Volume Before End Using ApplicationMusicPlayer?
I’m building a music app using Apple Music streaming via ApplicationMusicPlayer. My goal is to decrease the volume of the current song during the last 10 seconds, and when the next track begins, restore the volume to its normal level. I know that ApplicationMusicPlayer doesn’t expose a volume API, and I want to avoid triggering the system volume HUD. ✅ Using Apple Music streaming (not local files) ❓ Is it possible to implement per-track fade-out/fade-in logic with ApplicationMusicPlayer? Appreciate any clarification or official guidance!

Best Approach for Monitoring Music Playback State Across Multiple Apps?
Hey Swift community! I'm exploring building a macOS app that needs to monitor what's currently playing in music apps like Spotify and Apple Music (track info, playback position, play/pause state). I'm trying to figure out the most efficient architecture before diving in. The Goal: Monitor playback state across multiple music players to react to changes in real-time, ideally with minimal CPU overhead since this would run continuously in the background. Approaches I'm Considering AppleScript / ScriptingBridge Distributed Notifications Native Frameworks (Apple Music only) What's the recommended way to do this on macOS? Are distributed notifications reliable enough to avoid polling entirely? Is there a performance difference between AppleScript and ScriptingBridge for IPC? For Apple Music specifically, should I use MusicKit, MediaPlayer, or stick with AppleScript? Are there other approaches I'm missing?

Personas and Lighting in a visionOS 26 (or earlier) SharePlay Session
Use case: When SharePlay -ing a fully immersive 3D scene (e.g. a virtual stage), I would like to shine lights on specific Personas, so they show up brighter when someone in the scene is recording the feed (think a camera person in the scene wearing Vision Pro). Note: This spotlight effect only needs to render in the camera person's headset and does NOT need to be journaled or shared. Before I dive into this, my technical question: Can environmental and/or scene lighting affect Persona brightness in a SharePlay? If not, is there a way to programmatically make Personas "brighter" when recording? My screen recordings always seem to turn out darker than what's rendered in environment, and manually adjusting the contrast tends to blow out the details in a Persona's face (especially in visionOS 26).

Album parquet files don't include song names
The documentation of the Apple Music Feed API states that the Album object would include songs — a list of songs in the album. As per the doc, this would be an array of object Album.RelatedSong, which would include both an id and nameDefault. Unfortunately, the album parquet files only include the song id and not the name of the song itself. Please advise - is the documentation incorrect or are the recently posted parquet files in error?

Audio DSP Processing Issue / Metallic Ringing Artifacts when recording acoustic instruments on iPhone 17 Pro Max
Description: I have identified a specific issue when recording acoustic guitar and other instruments on the iPhone 17 Pro Max using native applications (Voice Memos, Camera). The recordings contain an unnatural metallic resonance (ringing artifacts) that should not be present. Testing and Methodology: Hardware Verification: Initially, I suspected a hardware defect in the audio chip or microphone. However, extensive testing with third-party software suggests this is likely a software-level issue. AudioShare Test: I conducted a test using the AudioShare app in "Measurement Mode" (which bypasses standard iOS system-wide audio processing). In this mode, the audio remains perfectly clean, and the metallic ringing disappears entirely. Conclusion: The issue is rooted in the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) algorithms that iOS applies for noise suppression or voice enhancement. These algorithms appear to misinterpret the high-frequency overtones of acoustic instruments as background noise and attempt to "filter" them, resulting in audible digital artifacts. Comparison Results: This issue has not been observed on devices from other brands or on older iPhone models (preliminary tests suggest older versions handle this better). Notably, the problem persists even in GarageBand, as the app still utilizes certain system-level processing layers. Proposed Solution: I suggest adding a "Raw Audio" or "Instrument Mode" toggle within the Microphone/Audio settings for native apps. This mode should disable aggressive DSP processing, similar to how the AVAudioSession.Mode.measurement works in specialized apps. Attachments: I am attaching 4 archives, including a final "Measurement Mode" folder with comparative samples (Measurement Mode vs. Standard Mode). The artifacts are most prominent when monitored through headphones.

Unique identifier of a MIDI device
Hello, I need to know what is a unique identifier of a MIDI device (source/destination). Important note: I want to get the same ID when a device is reconnected (unplugged and then plugged again). The main candidate is kMIDIPropertyUniqueID property. But I don't know if it meets the requirement above or not. Additional question: is it always available for any endpoint? Also there is kMIDIPropertyDeviceID property. What about it? And one more option is just MIDIEndpointRef returned by MIDIGetSource or MIDIGetDestination. So what is the proper way to get ID which persists between device reconnections?

When can we expect this bug to resolved? Thanks,

Repeat song listens not queryable
Hi all, I've been working on some personal programming projects and have gotten into using the Apple Music API. I'm currently looking to get a list of recent songs using the /v1/me/recent/played/tracks endpoint and it's working well. However, I know there are some songs I've listened to multiple times in a row, and those are not showing up as unique tracks when querying this endpoint. I'm only seeing a list of the different songs I've listened to lately, not a true list of the most recent plays on my account.

AudioUnit may experience silent capture issues on iPadOS 18.4.1 or 18.5.
Among the millions of users of our online product, we have identified through data metrics that the silent audio data capture rate on iPadOS 18.4.1 or 18.5 has increased abnormally. However, we are unable to reproduce the issue. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? The parameters we used are as follows: AudioSession: category:AVAudioSessionCategoryPlayAndRecord mode:AVAudioSessionModeDefault option:77 preferredSampleRate:48000.000000 preferredIOBufferDuration:0.010000 AudioUnit format.mFormatID = kAudioFormatLinearPCM; format.mSampleRate = 48000.0; format.mChannelsPerFrame = 2; format.mBitsPerChannel = 16; format.mFramesPerPacket = 1; format.mBytesPerFrame = format.mChannelsPerFrame * 16 / 8; format.mBytesPerPacket = format.mBytesPerFrame * format.mFramesPerPacket; format.mFormatFlags = kAudioFormatFlagsNativeEndian | kLinearPCMFormatFlagIsPacked | kLinearPCMFormatFlagIsSignedInteger; component.componentType = kAudioUnitType_Output; component.componentSubType = kAudioUnitSubType_RemoteIO; component.componentManufacturer = kAudioUnitManufacturer_Apple; component.componentFlags = 0; component.componentFlagsMask = 0;
