First app for me - stuck on Notarization
Hey there! Thanks so much for all the great posts about this topic! I'm fairly new to Mac development since a few months back, and I've been really impressed with Apple's developer tools and ecosystem so far. It's been an exciting journey building for macOS! However, I've hit a bit of a roadblock with the notarization process via direct download and would really appreciate some guidance from you more experienced developers. I understand that Apple has built a well-designed automated system to maintain high security for users, but I'm wondering: What's the normal timeframe for notarization to complete? What are usually the most common reasons if it takes longer than expected? Is there anyone at Apple who can help if the process gets stuck? I'm really excited to launch my app and continue developing for this amazing platform, so any tips from experienced Apple developers would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance! 🙏

Notarization stuck at "In Progress"
I have been waiting well over 24 hours for my notarization to occur, and nothing - no "we might take a while if it is your first app" or any mention of that in the docs. So why is it taking this long? What's the hold up??? If this is part of the process, Apple should officially document it, so developers aren't left resubmitting and wondering. This is not a good first experience with the developer program. All notarization submissions stuck "In Progress" — first-time notarization, 9 submissions over 16+ hours
I'm submitting my first macOS app (a native SwiftUI menu bar app, signed with Developer ID Application certificate, Hardened Runtime enabled) for notarization using xcrun notarytool submit with keychain profile authentication. All 9 of my submissions have been stuck at "In Progress" for up to 16 hours. None have transitioned to "Accepted" or "Invalid." Logs are unavailable for all of them (notarytool log returns "Submission log is not yet available"). Environment macOS: 26.2 (25C56) Xcode: 26.1.1 (17B100) notarytool: 1.1.0 (39) App: Native SwiftUI, universal binary (x86_64 + arm64), ~2.2 MB DMG Bundle ID: com.gro.ask Team ID: 4KT56S2BX6 What I've verified Code signing is valid: $ codesign --verify --deep --strict GroAsk.app passes with no errors $ codesign -dvvv GroAsk.app Authority=Developer ID Application: Jack Wu (4KT56S2BX6) Authority=Developer ID Certification Authority Authority=Apple Root CA CodeDirectory flags=0x10000(runtime) # Hardened Runtime enabled Runtime Version=26.1.0 Format=app bundle with Mach-O universal (x86_64 arm64) Entitlements are minimal: com.apple.security.app-sandbox com.apple.security.network.client Uploads succeed — each submission receives a valid submission ID and the file uploads to Apple's servers without error. I fixed the build configuration and confirmed flags=0x10000(runtime) is present on all subsequent builds. However, every submission after that fix has been stuck at "In Progress" with no state transition. What I've tried Submitting both .dmg and .zip formats — same result Verified notarytool log — returns "Submission log is not yet available" for all stuck submissions Apple Developer System Status page shows the Notary Service as "Available" I've also emailed Apple Developer Support but have not received a response yet Questions Is this the expected behavior for a first-time notarization account? I've seen other threads mentioning that new accounts may be held for "in-depth analysis," but 16+ hours with zero feedback seems excessive. 2. Is there any manual configuration Apple needs to do on their end to unblock my team for notarization? 3. Should I stop submitting and wait, or is there something else I can try? Any guidance from DTS would be greatly appreciated. This is blocking the release of my app.

MacOS installer appears rejected after successful notarization
Hi! I am encountering an issue with the notarization process. I'll leave here the outputs of a few command that I think might be useful. user@AndreisMac % pkgutil --check-signature mypkg.pkg Package "mypkg.pkg": Status: signed by a developer certificate issued by Apple for distribution Notarization: trusted by the Apple notary service Signed with a trusted timestamp on: 2026-02-18 18:46:16 +0000 Certificate Chain: ... user@AndreisMac % spctl -a -vv --type install mypkg.pkg mypkg.pkg: rejected origin=Developer ID Installer: MyComp LLC (ABCD) user@AndreisMac % xcrun notarytool submit mypkg.pkg --keychain-profile "notary-profile" --wait Conducting pre-submission checks for mypkg.pkg and initiating connection to the Apple notary service... Submission ID received id: e76f34b3-7c91-451c-a539-8fb39809a5bd Upload progress: 100,00% (13,3 MB of 13,3 MB) Successfully uploaded file id: e76f34b3-7c91-451c-a539-8fb39809a5bd path: /path/to/mypkg.pkg Waiting for processing to complete. Current status: Accepted............... Processing complete id: e76f34b3-7c91-451c-a539-8fb39809a5bd status: Accepted user@AndreisMac % spctl -a -vv --type install mypkg.pkg mypkg.pkg: rejected origin=Developer ID Installer: MyComp LLC (ABCD) As you can see: the installer is signed with a Developer ID Installer (the contents are signed and notarized as well) the first spctl check is failing(even if the installer was already notarized on our build server) trying to notarize again seems to work checking again still shows the installer as rejected I can run the installer locally by removing the quarantine flag, but this is not what I am expecting from a signed&notarized installer. Interestingly enough, trying this installer on a different MacOS machine works as expected(no quarantine) and spctl shows it as notarized(Accepted). Any idea what's wrong with my machine?

Notarization Request not found after 12 hours
Made a notarization request a few hours ago and woke up to check the history and it's no longer available. Not rejected/accepted just not found. I have gone ahead to make another request but I have no confidence because I expect the same thing to happen again. Any guidance? All notarization submissions stuck "In Progress" for 8+ days
All of my notarization submissions have been stuck at "In Progress" for over a week. I have 6 submissions spanning from March 4 to March 10, 2026, and none of them have completed or returned any errors. Affected submissions: 685708f6 — MeetingRecorder-1.5.0.dmg (submitted Mar 10) — In Progress 6ade1490 — MeetingRecorder-1.5.0.dmg (submitted Mar 10) — In Progress 99d39bd0 — MeetingRecorder-1.4.12.dmg (submitted Mar 6) — In Progress e65f95e1 — MeetingRecorder-1.4.9.dmg (submitted Mar 6) — In Progress eb51b220 — MeetingRecorder-1.4.9.dmg (submitted Mar 5) — In Progress 9cc33cfd — MeetingRecorder-1.4.9.dmg (submitted Mar 4) — In Progress Running notarytool log returns "Submission log is not yet available." Team ID: HXVLV4P425 The app is a macOS menu bar application for meeting recording and transcription. It is signed with a valid Developer ID certificate and has been built with hardened runtime enabled. I've tried resubmitting multiple times across different builds (1.4.9, 1.4.12, 1.5.0), but all submissions remain stuck. Could someone from the notarization team please investigate? Thank you.

Notarization Issue
Hey there, I'm experiencing an issue with notarization of my macOS application, which is blocking a release. We have signing/notarization hooked up to our CI process, both for prior releases as well as development builds (at the trunk tip). The notarization process has typically taken anywhere from a few minutes to a few tens of minutes, but for our most recent release, it's taking an unreasonably long time. I've compiled the submission info for each build (+ reattempted notarizations) below. What's interesting is that the oldest one was accepted- however, it timed out our CI process, so we never actually released it. Subsequent builds are more or less identical in terms of their content, however, they've been stewing in the notarization process for over 13 hours in some cases. % xcrun notarytool info 67413dae-64f5-4372-972d-e0ac158e18e3 Successfully received submission info createdDate: 2025-04-02T16:28:25.999Z id: 67413dae-64f5-4372-972d-e0ac158e18e3 name: Warp Vault.app.zip status: In Progress % xcrun notarytool info 0c72b243-4a8d-4976-a97b-75689d7e2497 Successfully received submission info createdDate: 2025-04-02T05:49:05.861Z id: 0c72b243-4a8d-4976-a97b-75689d7e2497 name: Warp Vault.app.zip status: In Progress % xcrun notarytool info 8e2edfc2-58bc-4b33-bc8e-078155759a81 Successfully received submission info createdDate: 2025-04-02T05:23:28.870Z id: 8e2edfc2-58bc-4b33-bc8e-078155759a81 name: Warp Vault.app.zip status: In Progress % xcrun notarytool info 8fb17b0c-ace4-4b6f-bef8-68d22696814d Successfully received submission info createdDate: 2025-04-02T05:07:48.187Z id: 8fb17b0c-ace4-4b6f-bef8-68d22696814d name: Warp Vault.app.zip status: Accepted At the time of checking, the UTC date was: % TZ="UTC" date Wed Apr 2 18:42:14 UTC 2025 It's interesting to me that the notarization process is taking this long. We've notarized many development builds (with debugging flags enabled) in the time between our last public release and our attempt to notarize this one. What's more, the original build for this release was notarized within the span of about 15 minutes, but subsequent submissions of the same build have hung for tens of hours. My two questions are: How can I get our pending notarizations "unstuck"?, and To prevent these types of hangs in the future, should I also routinely build/sign/notarize non-debug builds of my application during the development process? Best regards and many thanks, Charlton

store-credentials for notarizing failed – Apple ID locked
Thanks in advance for any hint to solve the following account problem: I tried to store credentials for notarizing. Presumably with the wrong combination of entries (similar to signing) – using the name of my university instead of my Apple Account. xcrun notarytool store-credentials "notarytool-password" --apple-id "Berliner Hochschule fuer Technik" --team-id "8YAW3HL2QP" --password "my Apple-Account-pw" .. retried assuming a syntax error (like missing "). Got the error message: This process stores your credentials securely in the Keychain. You reference these credentials later using a profile name. Validating your credentials... `Error: HTTP status code: 401. Your Apple ID has been locked. Visit iForgot to reset your account (https://iforgot.apple.com), then generate a new app-specific password. Ensure that all authentication arguments are correct.` Happy to see: Signing is not affected and I still an can log in to my account on developer.apple.com. So notarizing “only” seems to be affected. But how to reset the account to resolve the issue? The iforgot.apple.com link does not help - I provided my iPhone-number but did not receive further messages – neither on the iPhone nor on my “developer” macbook. Many thanks in advance All the best Florian

Gatekeeper "bundle_id: NOT_A_BUNDLE" rejection
Context: large platform-agnostic CLI tool built as a handcrafted bundle (not via an Xcode project) that has been successfully codesigned, stapled, and zipped; macOS 14.7.5 syspolicy_check reports App passed all pre-distribution checks and is ready for distribution. However, running the executable in the Terminal produces a "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified" popup. The executable does succeed after manually clearing its quarantine attribute. Having worked through Resolving Gatekeeper Problems, the only detail logged in the Console is Adding Gatekeeper denial breadcrumb (direct): ... bundle_id: NOT_A_BUNDLE. Experimental observations: a minimized trivial CLI executable with a similar bundle layout and name successfully executes without being rejected, and oddly, renaming the original bundle from "name" to "name.suffix" allows it to be successfully executed. It's unclear why the bundle name would affect Gatekeeper only in some circumstances, and we'd greatly prefer not to rename the bundle for compatibility reasons, so it would be good if there were some way to get further diagnostic detail leading to a workaround - thank you.

Notarising two builds of the same app
I have built my application for arm and x64 so I have two files called DeepSkyStacker.app in different directories. I have followed the instructions to notarise the arm version of the app, but an concerned about what I should do to notarise the other one - do I just zip that up and then run: xcrun notarytool submit "DeepSkyStacker.zip" --keychain-profile "Notary Profile for DeepSkyStacker" --wait xcrun stapler staple DeepSkyStacker.app again or will that mess everything up? Related to that can I use the Notary Profile I created for DeepSkyStacker to notarise other apps that are part of the same product (DeepSkyStackerLive and DeepSkyStackerCL)?? Thanks David

How can I export the "Notary Profile" used by notarytool for CI/CD
Once I have built my macOS .app and signed it I run notarytool using this simple shell script: #!/bin/sh ditto -c -k --keepParent "$1.app" "$1.zip" xcrun notarytool submit "$1.zip" --keychain-profile "Notary Profile for DeepSkyStacker" --wait xcrun stapler staple $1.app rm -f $1.zip How can I export that "keychain-profile" (notary profile) so I can use it in CI/CD actions? Clearly I don't wish to expose the full invocation of xcrun notarytool store-credentials.

This is my first time submitting an app for notarization. I also have a developer account that was created ~1-2 days ago. Developer ID Notary Service
Yesterday there were reported outages on the Developer ID Notary Service, but it was reported pretty late and we were able to notice the outages in real time. It says resolved now, however an error still persists: Error: HTTP status code: 403. A required agreement is missing or has expired. This request requires an in-effect agreement that has not been signed or has expired. Ensure your team has signed the necessary legal agreements and that they are not expired. Is there an ongoing outage at this moment that is not being reported again? Our pipelines have been working flawlessly for months without intervention nor changes until the most recent outages

Notarytool in progress for over 2 days
Whilst waiting for the company developer account I successfully notarised an app/pkg On switching to the company account the app/pkg has been stuck in progress for over 2 days (see below) The initial submission was via Xcode and later via command line. The last one was when I updated bundle ids etc and built with Github Actions. The initial submission did coincide with a service outage, however that is marked as resolved. I would like to cancel all of them now that I have switched the signing account and the bundle ID but there seems no way to do this? Thoughts and comments welcome. App Packaging: bundle format unrecognized, invalid, or unsuitable
I am trying to package a Filemaker 18 Runtime app. A week ago, I managed to get 90% of the way towards doing as much, using MS Copilot as a guide. Unfortunately, due to my confusion over the landing stage files, I decided to start the process from scratch. This time, I fell at the first stage: Code Signing my .app Bundle. The Terminal command: codesign --deep --force --verify --verbose \ --sign "Developer ID Application: ME (V********)" \ "/Users/Me/Documents/Apps/MyApp/Runtime/MyApp/My App.app" Returned the error: /Users/Me/Documents/Apps/MyApp/Runtime/MyApp/My App.app: bundle format unrecognized, invalid, or unsuitable In subcomponent: /Users/Me/Documents/Apps/MyApp/Runtime/MyApp/My App.app/Contents/Frameworks/FMWrapper.framework No matter how many separate elements within the bundle I sign, I encounter the same error message. A few days ago, the identical command worked first time. I would be obliged for any help you can provide. Thanks.

Hi everyone!! I am submitting an App for Notarization for the first time, I have several attempts, some returned invalid and other show In Progress for more than 8 hours. Is that normal? I addressed the issues that make the other ones Invalid. Thanks so much!

App Notarization taking upwards of 18 Hours
I have multiple submissions for an app notarization. The goal is to distribute the DMG on my website rather than the app store (which I also have a submission in review for).

Thanks Paul -------------------------------------------------- createdDate: 2025-08-14T11:03:24.837Z id: edf215d0-4d15-4075-aa6f-4755a35b3d45 name: ZenityEndpointAgent.pkg status: In Progress -------------------------------------------------- createdDate: 2025-08-12T21:36:36.345Z id: 9c98de09-d3aa-449b-ad47-7e721b0342c5 name: AIEdgeDeviceAgent.pkg status: In Progress -------------------------------------------------- createdDate: 2025-08-12T16:58:50.891Z id: 9206f9be-0fc4-4c6c-aa66-8fcbe3332155 name: AIEdgeDeviceAgent.pkg status: In Progress -------------------------------------------------- createdDate: 2025-08-12T10:37:35.624Z id: b20d1dd0-084e-441c-87a6-641fb088819e name: AIEdge Device Agent.zip status: In Progress

Thanks.
