VPN causes CarPlay to not work

Configuring a VPN with includeAllNetworks causes CarPlay / Netflix Cast. Even enabling excludeLocalNetworks does not resolve this issue.

Is this a known issue and can we work around this?

That sounds eminently bugworthy to me.

Hi, the bug number is FB11285432

I was wondering if Apple ever ended up fixing that bug you submitted. It looks like I'm still able to reproduce it on my end, and I'm connected via a Type-C cable.

Thanks so much for catching that bug early on.

FB11285432 was marked as a duplicate of an internal bug that was fixed in iOS 16.1. However, a lot has changed in the intervening four years [1], and it’s possible that those changes have either caused this patch to come unstuck or introduced a different bug with similar symptoms. So, if you’re seeing this problem on modern systems I recommend that you file a new bug about it. Feel free to reference the old bug and stress that you’re seeing the problem even though that bug was reported as fixed.

[1] For example, we’ve introduced a whole raft of new excludeXyz properties on NEVPNProtocol.
